I'm sorry for waiting too long.

I'm a poorfag and PC gaming is way too expensive for me, so I just stick to consoles as a general rule.

I just want something that can reliably and easily run Fallout: New Vegas and Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition. How much would a pre-built like that cost me?
Anything can run New Vegas. Pile on the mods and who the fuck knows.

Something you can do to hold you over is buy a used laptop and hook it up to a new keyboard/mouse plus a screen, set it to run with a closed lid and it's a thin slab you don't even have to look at.

For your purposes it all hinges on the GPU. If it's got a GeForce MX150, GT 740 or a Ryzen CPU then you're fine with some tweaks in-game, anything GTX (1050, 950) then that's really good(for your purposes). Look for Lenovo Ideapads or other big manufacturers midrange laptops, they're cheap new and should be cheaper used. Take the model number from the site and look it up on the manufacturer's website to get exact specs on the GPU, listings can be wrong or lousy. Then if the price is right, buy it until things calm down. And hey, you even get a license key for windows that you can use on your future build!

Budget should be 300-400 bucks with some leeway upwards.

The other option is the AMD Ryzen 2200G or 3200G, if you ever see it for sale and it is selling for 120 or less(some leeway), buy it immediately. Good CPU and decent integrated graphics, the Nvidia GT 1030 that it competes with sells for $80 and that is the only GPU that can be bought today. Insanity.

Small form-factor B450 motherboards can still be had for a decent price(Amazon.de have a couple of Gigabyte's in stock for €65), RAM have jumped in price but you can still get 8GB of HyperX for €50, though you might have to get a pure chinesium power supply for the time being(upside is that this computer won't draw much power and quality low-power PSU might be available, 300W or so).

You don't actually need a case short term. The motherboard comes in a motherboard sized box and I don't think that's a coincidence.

Add a harddrive(a good 512GB sata one can be had for €50-60, same price as a 2TB mechanical), add a grey market windows key and that's a sub €300 computer.

Best thing is that it's future proof. You can upgrade to the latest and greatest in both GPU and CPU including the new Ryzen 5000. Max RAM is 64GB which is plenty for most, there's a NVMe slot if you ever need to match the PS5 in SSD performance.

So if you see a Ryzen G series, jump on it and build from there even if it means buying parts here and there over time.

What i would do i were you is to go to a local uni or high school and ask if they are gonna upgrade or buy new computers and if you could buy one of the old ones that they were gonna throw out anyway. That way you basicly get it for free or you pay the price in scrap.

Got my first windows 7 system that way as a teen.

For some reason, the LEGO Racers theme song has been in my head for the past few days:

I have no idea why.

also it didn’t need to be said, but there are still some good LEGO video games to play that came out in the last couple of days. the PC games are pretty good from what I remember during my youth.

I have a Ryzen 4650G and man is that a nice APU if you mostly play strategic/RPG titles, emulators, indie stuff and other such older titles/tiles with simpler graphics but more CPU heaviness. The iGPU is actually really decent and has a lot of power to spare with most games that aren't intensive 3D titles so that you can easily crank all details up. Seems I got lucky with that buy since it's not available anywhere anymore, lol.

I'm lately stuck on Rimworld again. My mod list is huge. I like playing scifi cowboy and indians. I even have robots with cowboy hats. If that isn't the future I don't want to live to see it.

as someone who suffered through 8 gb for a long while, get at least 16. costs more but worth it. same for psu, no point in saving money by going with chinkshit if it takes half your system with it.
SDD is overkill, especially when you mostly play older games or emulate. sure, windows is more snappy, but how often are you constantly switching back and forth between tasks or restarting them over and over so much windows has to swap or load shit from the drive (and then you can still fix most of it with more ram)? loading times are hardly noticable besides bloated AAA shit with dozens of GB.

the biggest issue is building (or buying anything really) outside the scope of it's task, and since it's mostly for older stuff or to get used to it, no need to fall for the futureproofing meme either (like cpu upgrades are nice and all, but doesn't mean all features will be supported, and it's much easier to sell off a working combo of board + cpu + cooler (+ possibly ram) than upgrade piecemeal.
for your first pc you want to go with stuff that works to not sour you on the whole experience having to fix shit day in day out, prebuilts do but are limited on purposed to hit the price (most of the time), especially long-term. grab some cheap (as in low price, not low quality) components, maybe used from trusted sources and you should be set. heck, with people constantly upgrading there's probably someone in your social circle still having his old rig or parts of it around.

anyway, that's probably better discussed over on the tech board before a janny takes note.

Man the "going rogue" mechanic in W2 gets old fast

Whacking through an area with tons of hazards/boobytraps and getting into fights, Angela decides she's going to start doing things her way. Her way involves running right through a boobytrapped area to try and mash someone's face with her wrench. She takes like 45 points of damage from all the crap and then whiffs on the enemy.

Idjut.

Is it really a question if you can beat the original Pokemon without glitching? Is this what the new gen is asking?
Graphics and save data become corrupt on old carts, and the BIOS battery wears out over time.
Your game will act up, or not turn on at all if your cart is dead or dying.
If you're bitching about a glitchy emulator then kill yourself because they had to be reverse engineered by some faggot which means it won't be stable.
I'm pretty sure that Pokemon Red/Blue has always been beatable by toddlers without running into a glitch.

Man, I'm sure all these videos about Legend of Dragoon coming out lately will absolutely not lead to a bunch of zoomers running around talking about how it's best squeenix game ever, final fantasy is for nerds, and of course I played that before it came back into the YT consciousness.

Turns out GeForce NOW is pretty viable if you have a good router and a gigabit connection.
Speaking as someone who used GFN for a while, Shadow PC is infinitely better. You get an actual gaming rig to do with as you please. I pirate games, emulate, only downsides are the wait time and the fact that a couple games like Valorant and Genshin Impact don't work.

I have been considering the jump for PC gaming as well. If nothing else, just emulation and some AAA games.

Gamecube, PSP, PS2, even Wii.
Considering getting ps5 and the Ps6 if it's good that is and finally make the jump to pc gaming consoles in general just aren't what they used to be and also get a ps2 if you can the ps2 is notoriously awful and get the fat model since the slim one scratches disc due the ribbon glue loosening from the over heat

PS2 fat model had its own issues, the disc tray ejection system was failure prone for one

It's not difficult to emulate PS2 games on PC these days, there are some games that have major issues with emulation (R&C3 has a number of issues) but I'd say most of them will emulate OK or will emulate well with a few tweaks/workarounds

Something am surprised about source please for the disc ejection problem and tbh i would have my copy tokyo xtreme racer: drift 2 be yanked out of a disc than get completely scratched by the slims faulty placing of the ribbon cable still doesn't excuse the fact that sony didn't do anything about shame though cause the ps2 is legitimately one of the best looking console ever designed (tokyo xtreme 2 is also a excellent drifter game i recommend)

It's arguably anecdotal but when my old PS2 fat had the issue, the replacement developed the same issue, AND my roommate's also has the issue I start seeing a pattern. It's mostly due to wear and tear on the cogs. My oldest PS2 also developed serious read issues but that was supposedly from playing DVD movies in it (somehow), eventually it could only play games I had ripped to its hard drive using a certain program (and then the hard drive ate shit)

If this is true then shit i got a used but in good condition fat ps2 i don't know if your post jinxed my ps2 but hours ago it actually had the issue but the disc ejected (something to do with accidentally moving the disc tray up perhaps) happened only once but is that a warning sign if so then fuck me cause used ps2 fats sell around 150-200 dollars around where i live

I imagine it might be fixable but honestly I don't like fucking with console internals, it's not like working on a PC

Disciples IV got announced, could someone with Gamer Knowledge look at screenshots and tell me what Popular Thing they plagiarised this time*?

*Disciples III already had identity loss pretty bad, but this one feels like complete other genre. Why people not just remake II ><'

Just a drive by posting to say if anyone else is planning on playing Monster Hunter Rise and wants a fellow Kiwi to play with I’m up for sharing Friend Codes via DM. The game comes out next month and I’m super hyped about it!
I’ve been playing the MH series since Tri and my main weapon is hammer.

(There doesn’t seem to be a MonHun general thread so I thought I’d try posting in here.)
