I believe the community calls this "oldhammer" nowadays and there are likely telegram STL groups for it, cults3d creators, etc.

One that specifically was called out for me when I did a spot check was Monstrous Encounters. He's doing a special $20 sale to fund a surprise expense via MMF, $20 gets you everything he's put out over the pas 6 years. Might be of interest: https://www.myminifactory.com/users/Monstrous Encounters?show=tribe

Edit: For Skaven specifically the OPR Ratmen are basically compatible I believe. https://onepagefan.wiki/index.php/Ratmen_Miniatures

Finished Lords of Silence. Here's my take:
This may upset some people but I really didn't like this book. To give context I listened to this on audible mainly while driving to and from work. The narration was very good, no complaints there. It must've been hell to have to do nearly every character in a weird raspy voice and somehow make them distinct enough. My main complaint with the book is that I had no idea what the fuck was going on, or what anyone was doing.

So what is the book about? Well it's about Death Guard doing....Death Guard things. It starts with a sudden and unexpected warp jump so ok that seems to be our premise. Where are we? How do we get home? And who dun it? Ok cool. But then we don't do any sort of mystery solving. There's no clues, no intrigue, no sense of suspension. Everyone just shrugs their shoulders and then suddenly they're home. I guess they figured it out themselves after visiting some escort ship that got lost and raiding some random planet. Mortarian is in it for a few minutes to tell them they're going to invade Ultramar instead, but then they don't do that at all. There's some conflict about whether or not they should go fight at Cadia or with the Primarch and they do neither because they go hang out with some Word Bearers instead. The plot feels aimless. It might be fine for Death Guard fans who just want a "slice of life" style novel about what it's like in the day to day of being a Death Guard. For me, I felt like I was always waiting for something to happen, some major event of climax that never really came.

So often the book has a hard switch in scenes that made me question where we were and what was actually going on. Characters would show up that I didn't think were even present. The scene wasn't taking place where I actually thought it was. Or scenes weren't taking place when I thought they were. I thought the sudden warp jump was due to Cadia splitting. It makes sense because they spend several chapters talking about how the galaxy had been broken in half. But then there are other chapters talking about how Abaddon is preparing the 13th crusade and how everyone is racing to join and fight. I really couldn't give you a timeline of events of the book.

As far as characters go they were distinct enough I guess. I get that Vorx is the patient and cunning leader. Simple enough. Garstag is something like a second in command. Dragan is some guy who behaves more like a World Eater than a Death Guard always bitching about not fighting something. Slert is a creepy medic. Philemon is the tallyman which I guess is sort of like their librarian? I really don't know what his job is other than being loyal to Vorx. Kledo was probably somewhere in the first part of the book but I totally forgot he existed until the very end when he shows up to be the secret bad guy for the plot we abandoned in the first act of the book. It really took me a while to figure out who everyone was and how they fit into the story. I think that's because most of them really don't. This book is really about Vorx for the most part and him trying to tard wrangle. Half of them complain about Vorx, half are loyal, but I feel despite it's over 8 hour run time I never really got an appreciation for why there is so much conflict within the legion. I guess there is a split between those who want to march on Terra and continue the old war, and those who couldn't care less and want to do something else. But all the doom and gloom, political backstabbing, the underhanding plotting, I feel like we're told it happens but aside from Kledo I don't recall actually seeing any of it. I also don't feel like I really got a feel for why these characters and what purpose they serve in the wider story.

Captain Dantine is probably the highlight of the whole book. His story was easy to follow, and I understood what was happening and why. Step by step we see him resist chaos and slowly become corrupted. We understand that at no point does he ever willingly aid the Death Guard, but through chaos fuckery it basically forces him. It's not even the threat of torture, or trying to escape the rot and decay. Even to the bitter end he tries to either fight it or kill himself, but is ultimately powerless. His story was very good.

All in all I can't personally recommend this book. I know it has great reviews but I struggled to get through it. Maybe it needs a second read and I'll catch pieces I missed last time, and it'll all make sense. Maybe I need to listen to it at my desk where I can put more attention into it instead of while driving. I don't feel like I had to do that with any other book since this is how I read most of them. Nothing really grabbed me enough to really care about trying it again. I've re-read Infinite and the Divine and the Farsight books and those are a fun read even the second time around. This one I can't really say I'd be excited to put on again.

I think my next read will be the third Farsight book. I honestly forgot that came out and I enjoyed the first two. I'm still considering the Night Lords trilogy afterwards. I was also thinking about giving The Fall of Cadia a try. It got a new narrator so it might actually be listenable. That or maybe I give Red Tithe a try. I heard it was pretty good, and Carcharodons might be a fun side quest.

They've not quite got the utility of Neophyte Hybrids for making random human NPCs, but they're not far off.
Not familiar with that kit, but there's a few kits I want to try related to that.

Note, some of these have a 1 or 2, these signify male and female. So Scavengers 1 is men, Scavengers 2 is female, and they come with different bits.
Wargames Atlantic. Cannon Fodder are known for this, but I can't recommend Cannon Fodder 2. I've heard Scavengers 2 has the same issue I'll get to.
Ooh Rah comes with a massive caveat. The bits are very limited but also universal. They are basically space marines from Aliens, and have their sleeves rolled up. More over, a lot of their poses are holding a 2 handed weapon in 1 hand. So calling for a halt, throwing a grenade, that kind of thing.

Stargrave? Take your pick.
Stargrave Scavengers I already mentioned. Guys in hooded trench coats with makeshift weapons. Mostly modern firearms.
Stargrave Troopers I've heard are great for that, but they look a bit generic to me.
Stargrave Mercs.

Of this list, I've only really tried Cannon Fodder 2 and Ooh Rah. The main issues with Cannon Fodder 2 arms require a specific matching arm, but they aren't labelled or paired up in any way. The other big problem is that the breasts of the female bodies get in the way. More than once I've had to shave them down.

Wargames Atlantic has an Expanse set coming out, which people want for traveller and general civvies because it's guys in overalls with random sci-fi junk. I've not seen them beyond concept renders.

There is a GW kit people swear by. It's basically a sprue of autoguns and special weapons. I assume it's for necromunda? It seems expensive for what you get, but people swear by it for kitbashing.

The problem with all of these spin-offs for 30K/40K is that they often devolve into what my friends and I call Trench Crusade Syndrome. They go from great ideas, first draft of rules then it goes where all good ideas go to die, Discord, and gets reduced to people just posting their kitbashes. You might see the odd painted mini if you're lucky, but thats as far as it goes.
What games do you mean? Things like Imperalis, or things like Stargrave?

. Something else I've noticed about some(not all) brits is that they seem unwilling to just drive more than a few minutes without acting as if it's some kind of epic journey.
Because it is.

For me to go to the next town over. I don't have a car, but if I did traffic would be bad and parking would be costly. The best way is by train. But it's still a 1 hour trip each way, plus fare. So for me to visit the club next town over, that's fare + club fee + travel time. Add in any inconvenience like carrying your army around, and that's a lot of time and effort for what is either a 2 hour game or an 80% no-show.

At least the board game clubs I attended were cheaper on fees, and you were there the whole day bouncing from game to game.

I for one would love to see the consequences of these revelations.
I'm not sure I would. I also don't think current year GW would do it justice even if they tried.

grail knights
Is it these specific sculpts you want? Because there's a bunch of knight models out there with good quality for very cheap.

Its the Genestealer Cult kit, so they're just wearing mining gear. I use them for Necromunda so they fit within the theme. Other than the odd weapon swap, you only have to shave off a cult icon or two and slap on a more human looking head and they're good to go.

I'm not sure what look you're going for, but if you're wanting to stay within the bounds of the 40K theme you can't go wrong with the basic Orlock gang kit from Necromunda. They look pretty generic (sorry Orlock fans, but you know its true), especially if you don't bother using the shoulder pads. You have some decent weapon options straight out of the box too. There are no w*men in the basic kit either. Orlock heads are a staple for any basic human models I'm putting together, thats how generic they are.

Any of the plastic Necromunda upgrade kits are good, but like you say you have to pay the GW tax. I haven't seen any of the decent recasters stock these yet, which is a shame. You can pick up the older FW Necromunda upgrade kits, but in fairness the resin ones are actually worse than the newer plastic ones. I think a lot of that has to do with the quality rather than the actual sculpts. Unless you've got a recaster like BMM with expertise in turd polishing, a lot of recasters don't bother.

When FW first released the Delaque upgrade kit I found one blister pack out of all the ones they had on display at Warhammer World that wasn't a complete shitfest. The Forge World store there is notorious for putting broken models out for sale, but they're not that common. When I was hoping to pick up one of those Delaque kits, I would say that maybe one in four of the kits I picked up off the rack had broken pieces (thats before you start going down the rabbit hole of mold slip). Premium models folks...

Thanks, I hate to know that it is called now oldhammer. But now I found some models that I want to print.
For army I am not build for one, I just want to test an 3D printer and I like more fantasy models than 40k.

Not one in mind. If you have some suggestion I am open.

There is going to be a remaster of the original Dawn of War games. The original plus the expansion campaigns.

It looks pretty good. Some people are saying they can't see a different but with the video in full screen I can see a difference. It's not huge but it's there. I wonder if they might do console ports of this. I would play it on the Switch. But I would want a physical copy.

If the remaster is going to run smoother out of the box then I might consider picking it up. Would be nice if you could get a discount for having the whole damn series on my steam account but I am not expecting that.

Hoping they won't fuck with the gameplay or sound. Leave it as is and don't putz with any of the old lore.

I'm not joking, this literally looks like AI slop graphics upscaling. and yet nigger cattle in droves will purchase lazy ai slop "remakes". I think people with blues are going to skip this one and just play the classics.

I think that's what they plan on doing. I would just like to be able to play Dawn of War and Winter Assault without needing a mod. Currently there is a mod that puts the campaigns from DoW and Winter Assault into one of the expansions that runs in widescreen 16:9. Others said that it will be 64bit so it will make modding easier and the mods will run better.

I watched it in full screen and it looks pretty good. No one will know till it releases. If it's not shit and full of problems I will get it. It's being done by Relic. It's not quite a remaster and definitely not a remake. It's a slight graphics increase and probably some other fixes. People don't want them to screw with the game too much. Of course, there are the usual retards whining because they didn't upgrade the graphics to make them look modern like the Oblivion remaster. It's an RTS game people usually don't play them for the graphics. Other things matter in an RTS than the graphics.

The difference in the remaster are subtle, but I think it's fine. Necron warriors have the most obvious improvement. I think we all know that people are going to be playing Unification or Apocalypse mod anyways which all use custom assets. Getting the game to run properly on modern machines and fixing desynch issues is really all I could ask for. I'd rather them not mess with an already good game. Better they make DoW4 if they want to try messing with the formula again.

I don't play historicals. So I can't recommend any specific kit. That said, there are a bunch of options because "knight" isn't a copyrightable thing.

Off the top of my head. Oathmark, Deus Vult (aka FireForge), Victrix, Barons War, and maybe Frostgrave.

There is a YouTuber Paul Stanley (not the singer) that has a bunch of videos on the topic if you want details. This is the first one of his to come up when I search.
The basic gist is this. You go for GW for your set piece units. And then for mass infantry you go third party, perhaps with some official bits to sell the illusion.

Frostgrave is the odd man out since most of their kits are winter or jungle themed.

Oathmark is supposedly a modern take on an old world style fantasy rank and flank game before GW brought it back, and is where I'd start my search. They have fairly generic factions like orcs, undead, and elves.

Am I alone in thinking Uriel Ventris is a douchebag, or all blueberries as moto and noblebright as him?

In Dead Sky, Black Sun, he gets shoved into the Daemonculaba and is ready to submit to death, then decides not, to because he has an anime "remember, son, dying is for fags" vision.

Everyone gets, “Remember son, dying is for fags,” visions. Titus got one, every BA gets one, the Black Templar antagonist in the recent Fulgrim novel got one, Ahriman gets one every book, Fabius even got one from Fulgrim, who tagged in Slaanesh to get Fabius to get with the fucking program.

Dang, getting called a Fag by Fulgrim? Nigga I would just fucking end it right there.
