I mean, its a low bar considering DOW3 exists. I'm also curious what they will do with DLC.

Thou shall not speak that name.

And with the DLC I would assume it would be the same shit that would have normally come with the game even 5 years ago but now you will have to buy piecemeal because AAA gaming company's suck dick.

The success of the Total War games really fucked over us customers because they learned that morons will spend 15 bucks to get a re-skin.

Prepare for 20 dollar 'special unit/character' DLC's every couple months!

wait a minute, are Iron Hands just technotrannies?
I know this is a joke, but I do think there is an interesting correlation between transhumanist ideology and trans ideology. The whole idea of ones body being imperfect and made to be remade in ones own image could be applied to either concept. Then again, both are for very, VERY different purposes
Regardless, yes, they are, and so are AdMech, and exterminatus of Mars may be the only solution

With as many people as Mars dumps back into the flesh vats for recycling, or turn into servitors after coming out of the flesh vats, might be a safe assumption that they self-filtering already. Necrons have a tranny character(it's an mtf troon phaeron only mentioned by name) in one of the twice dead king books. I haven't read about any admech doing that to themselves, yet.

Alright one more Smurf book.

I enjoyed this quite a bit because it's smurfs vs Tau and for once in this series the ultramarines starting living up to their meme reputation and riptear the Tau like nobody's business

I would go so far as to say the ultramarines are the Tau's kryptonite. They made a lot of mistakes in this, but going after a Smurf world basically ended the Tau campaign before it ever began. The smurfs can use their tactics against them by putting themselves in the Tau's shoes, framing it with the codex and understanding that they don't take risks. Not to mention they outclass them in every way. With Individual engagements being so easy, the ultramarines bitch about it. That's not to say the Tau are a pushover. They were ultimately in a position to win the painful grind against the guard and smurfs, but the ultramarines win the moment they pull the 40k version of a Picard speech with guns drawn. " You overextended, you gambled, your winning the battle but losing the war, pull out now and we wont kill you all"

It's pretty interesting to analyze how big a fuck up the Tau ethereal is. Dude had a perfect opportunity for a slow burn capture of a border planet. They were still reeling from the aftermath of a planetary rebellion (from the first book, bunch of crime lords rebelled and the lead one allied with the Dark Eldar to release a Ctan shard) the imperium punished them for. The situation isn't volatile, but there's a decent amount of resentment for a lot of people being put out of jobs for being even remotely employed by said crime lords. The economy is shit, and, the planet Pavonis desperately needs more avenues of trade. In comes the Tau, who go behind the planetary governors back and talk to his aunt (the ex gov of book 1). They make all these promises and hook her in. So they now have an opportunity to win the good will of the governor and gradually win over the population by gestures of good will with trade in tech. instead the Ethereal decides to launch a full blown invasion.

The "negotiation" is laughable. Oh he does good job of selling the greater good... Right up until the Gov realizes the greater good doesn't take no for an answer. Then the tau start landing troops and assaulting all the major city centers. The Ethereal throughout it all is pretty cocky even after getting his ass captured (twice) and has to get buck broken by the Ultramarines before he realizes the planet is too "barbaric" to be tamed at this time. I was very interested in two major aspects, one he seemed to be able to exert his mental influence on the governor for a bit and two he had no empathy. The Tau seem to have no concept of family or religion other then the greater good, and I thought that was a cool way to illustrate their otherworldliness and make them less palatable. Im starting to buy into the idea that the Tau are a genetically engineered race with gene programmed leaders in the Ethereal's. Oh and their bugs shot up a church full of innocents for no tactical reason, so that was a poor showing for them. Kroot were pretty brutal against the guard too. (at one point their leader gets in an Indiana jones style fight with a guardsmen on a baneblade)

As for the side characters: The Imperial guard made a good showing in this as out classed as they were. The arbites were interesting up until their strong female leader screwed up royally and got them all killed. The most tragic and interesting side character was a rare priest preaching the teachings of the emperor Jesus style. Dude got shot up by bugs, went insane and went Jason on a bunch of Tau before dying.

I liked how even though this was a relatively clean victory for the ultramarines (only 29 casualty's ) Pavonis is not going to be in a better place. This is the second time their leadership has indicated heretical loyalties and they only just barely got occupied last time because of the recommendation of an inquisitor. It only takes a sentence at the end to really drive the point home ("many would later come to believe the wrong side won" )

The funniest moment is the 90 year old ultramarine second in command throwing a fit over having to eat a Tau's brain. He was bitching and moaning like a child and it was hilarious.

Since the beginning, the whole point of 40k is that the Imperium is screwed. Nothing can save it. Not good generalship, not cunning, not even more elite Space Marines with guns that look like cracker boxes, and especially not the intervention of the Emperor. Perhaps due to the nature of the Space Marine faction itself, 40k has become a power fantasy, but I prefer the opposite.
My perspective has always been. "It's going to take another million years, but eventually we'll win." Well.. before the Galaxy got sheered in half anyway.
Agreed, I don't want my dark angels to be noble knights; I want a less compassionate and more paranoid kgb
Im like the rare vanilla 40k fan that wants to consistently see competence, heroism and victory. But all the same I can appreciate the dark depressing tragedy aspects.

idk I need something good to happen in my fiction, it can't all be full of horrible people. That being said, I don't like ultramar being the essential good guy flagship faction for 40k.

I do :)
I just don't get the fear of trannies. wtf are they going to do, beat you up? This is 40k, not women's sports.

To keep it brief tranny's are not that threatening to me because I don't interact with them that much. But they are a blight upon themselves and others and I will not give an inch and say they are acceptable in any way. I'll treat them like human beings and be polite, but I'll always see an ugly man and occasional woman wasting away as they live a transparent lie. At a least a gay or lesbian knows what they are and what they want. I don't know where the fuck a tranny is gonna go. It's like more pathetic versions of the emperor's children cultist's .

Why would the cogboys become troons?

Also, @Michael Wade If you enjoyed Courage and Honour, I would recommend Deathwatch Shadowbreaker. Honestly its one of my favourite tau books and I really enjoyed the world building.

Thorpe had a a Tech priest with something like Xir pronouns iirc. Which is a bit strange even within the lens of gender theory, as Ad mech ironically be the faction least open to it. Not much room for caring about “psychology” or questioning “social constructs” in a religion built around trying to become a toaster which regularly assigns people at birth to become servitors and Skittari.

Already this is looking like a sequel to DoW 2 rather than DoW 1.
It looks like some weird hybrid of the two, something you probably shouldn't buy at full price.

DoW1 was carried hard by the voice acting and general sound design, everything that came after it feels stock. [insert Lars Ulrich image]

The difference between the Iron Hand and troons is that the Iron Hand really can achieve the strength and certainty of steel. All they have in common is they hate their bodies.

If IHs try hard enough and are good little boys for the Imperium they can become dreadnoughts and servitors, but trannies will never be women. No matter how much they chop off and suck out, the goal they want is impossible and they will never find absolution.

The end result of troonin and poonin is a shallow mockery with no purpose, unlike service to the Omnissiah.

GW price model do be somethin
Between GW terrible pricing and the horrible practice of Codex's I tend to stay away from the miniature aspect of 40k.

Most of my time with the 40k verse is via Black Library books and video games.

and that one weird movie they released back in 2010.

Iron hands also dont have a 45% chance of ACKING themselves.

The World-Eaters can be goofy as shit or terrifying depending on how they are handled.

Like when Angron gets lit the fuck up inside his dropship when he lands on Istvaan III only to sprint out of it completely unfazed and looking like a feral monster with a horde of marines right behind him. That was really fucking cool.

Saul Tarvitz trying to act brave with his "The Emperors Children never run." Speech only for a World Eater captain to look him dead in the eyes and tell him to fucking run before charging straight towards Angron with zero hesitation was peak writing.
“Uninvited…… but not unwelcome.”
-rando World Eater to an EC boarding party.

The World Eaters really were the best showing from the Siege, Horus wasn’t kidding when he told Pert that they needed the World Eaters.

The Iron Hands are also one of the manliest chapters. It’s easy to be hot shit when you’re at the top of the food chain. It’s another to be at the bottom, beaten, defeated, humiliated and utterly ruined. Then getting up and getting back to work, just more motivated, ACKING the World Eaters muster world with a fucking moon and going scorched-earth on anybody who tried to stay out of the fight or surrendered without a fight.

They’re that lifter who hates his body cause it’s not good enough. Trannies will always be Genestealers.

Read Deliverance Lost and I think this is another one I'll have to do again. I enjoyed it, but very few things stuck with me from it other than I actually really dig Corax, which I didn't think I would. Least not as much as I do. Still not too keen on the RG as a whole though.

The Alpha Legion were rather lackluster in this. Not that I didn't enjoy them, I just wasn't too engaged in what they were doing. Although Alpharius telling Erebus to shut the fuck up and know his role, and essentially telling Abby to "give me a reason, faggot" was kino. Props to Abby for not backing down even though he'd have been rekt since Alpharius is a fucking Primarch.

Late and gay but why does Dawn of War IV have 4 factions? DoW1 had 4 but Winter Assault had 5, Dark Crusade had 7, Soulstorm had 9, vanilla DoW2 had 5 (4 only for multiplayer), Retribution had 6 and Chaos Rising had the excuse that it was Bloody Magpies focused only campaign. Really, not even Leagues of Votann (which was fucking featured in Mechanicus II).

Because its a completely different studio?

You even mention DoW1 having 4. And DoW2 having 1 for its campaign. Is 4 a problem for campaigns a problem? Comparing past expansions to what is a base game(4) doesn't even make sense. DoW3 was shit and only had 3 factions. It isn't like they're re-using assets or anything either.

I get that, its just that given the scale of 40k, you'd think that the factions would be more than four as the entire war has devolved into a rat race for supremacy against each other. Also where is Chaos? I'd expect some stint of Chaos given that it is consistent with each DoW game (Alpha Legion in vanilla + Soulstorm, Word Bearers in Dark Crusade, World Eaters in Winter Assault, Black Legion in DoW2 + all expansions). Also, fuck DLC exclusive factions, we don't have to go down the paypig path Creative Assembly took with Warhammer Fantasy and Total War.

Also, the reveal trailer seems mobile gamey. I know DoWIII is shit but that trailer has always remained kino and will remain so to this day.
