Can anyone reccomend any good 40k books for listening? So far I listened to Aincent Awaits and listening to False Gods

Clearly the new Berzerkers don't abide by modern design principles.

Been playing some battlefield gothic 2 and damn, the prolouge campign is so good.
The VA is top notice and it makes it feel like you are in the end times.

Anyone play Heresy? If so please share your thoughts on it in general

If you liked the core rules of 7th ed and before, you will probably also enjoy 30k 2.0.
I've been playing 30k since about 2018 and the new edition is a massive improvement in most areas. Overall I like it a lot, it's really fun.

I like the reactions that they added and the fact that there is hard cap on how many you can use in a phase, and really hope they will not become overbloated, like the stratagems of 8th ed.
The legions rules have been streamlined, for better and for worse. I unironically miss the negative traits that legions used to have, they gave them more character imo.

The arty nerf is a bit harsh, but at the same time completely warranted, now it's much less likely for your squad to get wiped by a single medusa shell or w/e, so your marines stick around on the table for longer.

The most important part of it, however, is to find likeminded people to play with. Usually 30k matches are much more narative focused, and players tend to bring fluffy armies, instead of chasing the meta. I say "tend to" because the game being pushed by GW might attract waacfags from 40k. I'd say give the game a try, maybe play some small 1000-1250 demo matches of Zone Mortallis with some locals to get the feel of the community and the system itself.

How worth it is the Horus Heresy box set to start up an army (I know next to nothing about building one)

Though the Cognitae was likely chaos
From what I understood they were like an anti-Inquisition with the direct goal of toppling the Imperium. Of course they didn't care much for using Chaos, but they weren't full on Chaos worshippers either.
Abnetts has done more Damage to the lore than ADB ever has. I feel like more guys are ticked off at ADB for being a prick on social media when Abnett has put out some absolute stinkers but being the guy behind Gaunts Ghosts and Eisenhorn he’s untouchable.
ADB is usually blamed for making bad characterization, like with big E, that not only ran counter to previous instances he appeared, but seemed to grew into the "canon" way the Emperor is portrayed.
Abnett likes to add world building that, while usually fit the universe, feels crammed in and doesn't make sense why it didn't appear before.

Fun Fact about ADB. I went to search for his stupid shit about Female Custodes, and the first result I got was:

Him retweeting Sigmarxism, tweeting out an obviously fake reddit post from the most sockpuppetish fake right-winger I've ever seen. In said retweet he bemoans that people are mad at him for only trying to woke shit up once or twice a year.

Abnett might be bad at times with random worldbuilding additions, but ADB shouldn't be allowed around a piece of paper and crayons in the GW offices without supervision.

How worth it is the Horus Heresy box set to start up an army (I know next to nothing about building one)
Except under very specific circumstances, most 30k lists begin with an HQ choice and two troop choices. It's the minimum requirement for the Crusader force organization chart.

HQs are roughly divided into Praetors, which are very killy if you invest in them, and Centurions, which can take certain specialisms like Librarian, Chaplain, Forge Lord, etc. In the box you get two praetors, which are fairly easy to convert into some other kind of HQ, so you're set on this front.

Troops are anything from tacticals, to assault marines, to scouts, etc. In the box you get 40 beakies, which could very easily satisfy your two troop choice requirement. 20-30 of them should become tacticals, while the rest 10-20 could become tactical supports ( special weapon dudes), heavy supports ( heavy weapon dudes), seekers (basically sternguard), veterans (incredibly flexible elites) or who knows what legion specific unit. 2x1mm magnets are your friend here, if you like having flexibility and switching between weapons from match to match. GW graciously also sell heavy and special weapon packs. Hopefully they will also bring out melee weapon packs for the World Eaters and whoever else likes melee.

The rest of the box is
-10 cataphractii terminators (slower, but more resilient than the tartaros terminators), which are quite nice models both looks and rules wise, imo. In 2nd edition terminators have been bumped up to 2w and there is very little Ap2 left, so they're gonna hang in there and put in work, usually. 3x1mm magnets are great for swapping between their weapons, since they have different roles. Although a TAC loadout of 3 powerfists and 2 dual lightning claws can work.
-1 contemptor dreadnought, as a certain salty convict monkey likes to say "always take a contemptor dreadnought", and I agree. They're great models and can have a very wide variety of roles, depending of what you outfit them with. Again, magnets for the guns.
-1 spartan assault tank, a big daddy land raider that can transport 26 models and has like 4-5 twin linked lascannon shots. It's a great model for higher points games, where target saturation will make it hard for the enemy to decide what to rek first. In low points games, it either fucks, because the opponent has no answer to it, or it gets fucked, because it will get focused and you'll be left disappointed that your 350+pts model got yeeted t1.

TBH, it's a great box (unless you're a White Scars diehard bcuz no bikes, or a Blood Angels diehard bcuz no jump packs) to split almost completely 50/50. If I were just starting out, I would trade the spartan for a contemptor dreadnought and play mirror matches with a buddy, while slowly building up our forces and seeing how different legions rules, legion units and personal preference affect out list building down the line.
1 hq, 20 tacs, 5 termies and a dread is a pretty good and balanced 750-1k list.

However, if you don't want to split the box, the first thing I would get is some rhinos and the special/ heavy weapons upgrade sprues.

hope I managed to write a coherent post, my autism really flares up when 30k is the subject of a discussion.

Toss up between Sons of Horus and Ultramarines (yes blueberry meme but Know No Fear was such a good book). Kind of want to stay Loyalist legion.
I respect your choice of reading material, and those are both pretty solid choices gamewise. I have an Imperial Fists army and I'm planning to split the box between it and the Alpha Legion force I've been wanting to start. Heresy's a lot of fun once you get into it.

Much respect, sir.
Speaking of Heresy, I hope the Alpha Legion MKIV torsos come back as MTO.
I missed out on them. They'd look great on my Sergeants/Aspiring Champions.
