Speaking of Heresy, I hope the Alpha Legion MKIV torsos come back as MTO.
Just get recasts, lol. Comrade Zhang/ Ivan has a lot of MTO/ OOP stuff, and for okay prices, too. I've ordered over $1k worth of shit from various chinese and russian recasters and I can't complain, tbh.

Toss up between Sons of Horus and Ultramarines (yes blueberry meme but Know No Fear was such a good book). Kind of want to stay Loyalist legion.
Based choices, both.

Since you want to stay loyalist, have you considered an Istvaan III themed SoH force, with some dudes painted as Luna Wolves? You get to use the best boys Torgaddon and Loken. And, down the line you could expand your force with E'sCs and Tarvitz, DG and Morturg and/or WEs and Ehrlen. They make a great, fluffy shattered legions list. The SoH have the Justaerin, which are cataphractii termies. With some effort you could turn the ones in the box into these legion specific dudes.

As for the Ultramarines, I feel they're a lot more likeable in 30k, where a lot of the Wardwank does not apply, so the blueberry memes should not be much of a thing, really. UMs also get legion specific cataphractii termies, the Fulmentarus, all with missile launchers mounted on their back, so that's another option of what you could build from the starter box. Just some things to consider when you assemble your guys.

Fun Fact about ADB. I went to search for his stupid shit about Female Custodes, and the first result I got was:

Him retweeting Sigmarxism, tweeting out an obviously fake reddit post from the most sockpuppetish fake right-winger I've ever seen. In said retweet he bemoans that people are mad at him for only trying to woke shit up once or twice a year.

Abnett might be bad at times with random worldbuilding additions, but ADB shouldn't be allowed around a piece of paper and crayons in the GW offices without supervision.
ADB is a lefty but unlike fellow alum of World of Darkness Chuck Wendig, he isn’t a Twitter sperg and unlike his contemporary Mike Brooks, doesn’t insert non-binary crap or describe the violent murder of a certain ‘Sarkon Aggad’.

The man gets Chaos and I’ll even say that I liked his characterization of the Emperor. We did need that slap in the face that the Emperor is not the all-powerful entity guiding humanity to a better future. He’s Leto II without the prescience, dragging humanity towards a particular future under threat of a boltgun to the face.

The only woke thing he’s done is wanting to make female Custodes, which was thankfully stopped because GW already had the models made for Custodes. Outside of that, he’s a good writer, just wish he didn’t take 2+ years to write a single book.

I hate Alan Demski Bodski. I said something bad about him on reddit once and within hours he was in the thread crying about it. Also, warhammer twitter might be one of the worst places on earth. Seems like 90% of them are trying to ruin our little hobby. ADB and his like are doing their part. Most BL authors are just worthless, if they were good they'd be writing their own stuff, but they aren't so they have to latch onto an established franchise and try not to be terrible and they mostly fail at even this. Chris Wraight is good but hasn't done anything exceptional for a while now, I'm worried he may have fallen off.

So what I'm hearing about ADB, I take it master of mankind is shit because its him writing about the Imprium and the Emperor to boot. Was on my to read list but might take it off now.
Also tempted to pick up the two Dark Heresy books since I'm curious if Sandy Mitchel is able to write something besides Caiaphas Cain and might pick up Robert Rath's assassinorum book assuming Infinite and the Divine wasn't his one hit wonder.

Master of Mankind gets shit, based on the reader's view of what the Emperor should be. Because of the way he's shown from different characters perspectives, and the contrast of those differences in their interactions led to a lot of sperging.

Recommend reading it as I'd say it's one of the key novels in the Horus Heresy series as it focuses on the Webway project, Golden Throne and has the Emperor explaining his origin and grand plan for humanity to one of his Custodes as they hold off a massive Chaotic force from breaching into the Throne room.

Don’t forget when Big E enter the webway. He just wreak shit and his mere presence kill lesser deamons. One of the best part in the book imo.

Thanks for the helpful posts on Heresy stuff, I'm gonna stock up on jump packs and go Night Lords.

As I understand it I basically want to have large squads to bully the opponent?

Pretty much, yeah. Their legion trait (A Talent For Murder) improves wound and armor pen rolls by 1 as long as your units outnumber whatever they're attacking (or if the enemy unit is falling back/pinned) so you want to bring maxed-out tactical squads, vehicles, or models with the Bulky rule, like jump-pack squads and Terminators. Vehicles count as ten models for the purposes of triggering ATFM and Bulky models count for the number included in the rule; (e.g. a Bulky (3) model counts as three models). Raptor squads are a solid and fluffy choice for Night Lords, and so are bikes; they even have a Rite of War this edition that requires you to put your HQs on bikes and makes Outrider squads into troops.

I mostly listen to Warhammer books. My favourites (incomplete list on my phone playlist, no specific order)

Wolf King
Children of Sicarus
Daemonology
Dark Compliance
Fabius Bile (3 books, 2 shorts)
Grey Talon
Magisterium
Parting of the Ways
Perpetual
Glorious Tomb
Last son of Prospero Scars
Path of Heaven
Scars
Red Fief
Revelation of the Word
Iron Corpses
Broken Chain
False War
Soul Severed
Master of the First

Mainly great stories, also good narration and production.

Can anyone reccomend any good 40k books for listening? So far I listened to Aincent Awaits and listening to False Gods
(replying to this)

Humble Bundle has regular 40k audiobook and ePub bundles for stupid cheap. Sometimes the charities are a bit sus, but often it's good shit like Penny Arcade's Child's Play.

I have consoomed Warcry. Didn't pay for the shitty little $40 ruler that gets tacked on by GW, at least.

Have to say, I am really liking the ruleset, especially the initiative system. It's almost like a quick little Yahtzee minigame, with multiples powering special abilities and singles determining who goes first. I haven't got to play it yet, but it sounds at least as fun as Kill Team, which also makes it far superior to 40k/AoS.

Still not a big fan of the scenery, though. It looks susceptible to breaking.

The Ciaphas Cain Audio drama lites(is mostly one narrator, but a few bits from other characters) are very well done. Don't power through all of them, they are kind of samey, but one a few times a year are a treat. Also see next quite.

Are there any good Ork pov books?
Brutal Kunnin' was a decent book with really good Ork bits, and a mediocre Mechanicus half.

Played another game today. 1500 points of my Goffs versus a friend's Bloody Rose SoBs in a ToW game. Deployment was on the long edges and I went first, which pretty much set the stage for what ended up being a massacre. The Dakkajet and Scrapjet blew one of his retributor squads off the table right off the bat, while a Trukk and Kill Rig pushed hard midfield dumping a squad of pissed off greenskins right in the face of his other Retributors. His turn saw him kill my Smasha Squig Nob, the Trukk and a pair of Deffkoptas.

Turn two was where everything hit the fan. Called the Waaagh, shot most of his characters (Dogmata, Palatine and Hospitaller) off the board, and basically everything that could charge did so. His Canoness got run over by the Kill Rig, a squad of Stormboyz chopped up some Sisters up close, the Trukk Boyz turned the other Retributor squad into paste and the Squighogs trampled his Mortifiers. I finished that turn holding 4/5 points and had cleared all three secondaries I was holding that turn. After that, we both agreed that the game was pretty much done since the bulk of his army and all his anti-tank firepower was gone. I actually felt bad - usually our games aren't that one-sided.
