Personally I think it turns the unique* Warhammer 40K setting into another generic hero-centric moving timeline, like Warmachine or Warcraft.

Instead of advancing the timeline or keep cramming in more and more stuff into the last few years of the 41th millenium, I would have much preferred that they explored the roughly 10.000 years in between the Heresy and 'present day', like the quite excellent 'Beast Returns' novels they released recently. 40K is (was) best as a setting rather than a ongoing narrative.

The advancing timeline doesn't appeal to me, so it's Heresy era or bust from here on.

*Yeah, it's all derivative but all the influences put together meshed into a pretty unique mix IMO.

I'm way, way behind on the literature, so pardon my ignorance, but I feel like the separating 10k had been used as an available setting to tell stories. Not to say it isn't still ripe to explore, but I thought it wasn't something left out.

I half agree with you, though. I think to much change, or a constant rollout of it, isn't good. 40k is a grand scale with room for lots of smaller stories, but I think it's time for the status quo to be shaken up a bit, let the universe move forward an age, not as vast as 30k-40k, but move the pieces around a bit, add some new elements.

The whole transition to 3rd Edition Ork models was the biggest thing that's happened for them beyond Ghazghkull's update (though same could be said for all 3rd edition really). Aside from a few fancy metal Nobz even the Gorkamorka/Digganobz Diggaz looked better beforehand. 3rd Edition models were a new golden standard and brought the true Orky flavour out

They also put 20 boyz in a box for 22 yurodollars back when they launched (iirc), now it's what, fucking 11 for the same price? Three boxes to get a standard unit block filled, pure pisstake.

Hey, nice work on that salamander. Looks really good.

Ackchually it's supposed to be a Blood Angel succesor chapter i was in the process of making up (hence the bone-coloured aquilla, vet sergeants would get gold helmet and aquilla, bone helmets on devastators, death company complete bone etc. Fuck red bolters paired with green armour, though), was even looking in on how to make my own decals...

Then life happened and i haven't picked up a brush since almost a year.

Lol, you know what's awesome about Age of Sigmar?

Goddam Chaos Dwarfs are winning tournaments, making them one of the best Chaos factions and most definitely the most powerful Duardin/Dwarf faction. I'm tempted to buy a bunch of those great Russian Alternative Chaos Dorfs and dive in myself. They have big hats, masks, and Assyrian facial hair when appropriate, making them strictly better than Forgeworld.

How do you guys feel about Battlefleet Gothic Armada 2? I just watched the stream and it looks really good over the first game which had glaring issues.
I want to see if there's actually a campaign in which you're helping Trazyn the Infinite add some things to his collection.

(I seriously, unironically love that thieving motherfucker. Possibly one of the funniest damn characters in 40K outside of Ciaphas Cain.)

It’d be refreshing to have a campaign set around The Beast Arises or even just an event...

I still love 40k but it’s at its best when it’s a Sandbox. My biggest complaint about GW post Chapter House saga is the lack of customization. They’ve become less tolerant of conversions, custom war bands/chapters, etc.

Well, it's not evil enough for my tastes but I'll take it over Sigmarines any day.

I know I've said this before, but staying away from official GW events makes it a much more enjoyable hobby. No more arbitrary rules designed to limit the consumer, far less exposure to cheese lists plucked off the internet and a much more laid-back atmosphere where you can joke around and call the Ratling who sniped your Apothecary a 'faggoty midget' without fear of winding up a blacklisted pariah.

There's also the freedom to proxy units so you don't have to bankrupt yourself or develop workarounds for different loadouts. I mean, I think the vehicle builds with magnets so you can swap out weapon systems are cool, but if little Timmy wants to run his bog-standard Land Raider as a Crusader -- and sticks to it -- in a game at the FLGS, I'm not going to complain. Even if little Timmy gets the drop on me and mulches half my formation.

I just get tired of the long-ass phases of the IGYG system along with huge deployments. After watching quite a few DoW2 replays, me and a friend started tinkering with the idea of starting small and capturing resource points that you then use to deploy more units. Any thoughts on this?

I wonder if you could start with Kill Team rules (which run small) and segue into a full-on 40K battle?

Da Updaet:

Here is some of the more current state of my Bluhd Rehvens!

I finished the LC Terminator squad for Abaldo Diomedes and got 5 Tartaros/Cataprachti ranged ones left. They'll get 5 Tartaros ones with all manner of cool ranged weapons.

Yeah, I know the ork tank (Rhino/Leman Russ hybrid of extreme derp) is extremely ugly and propably worth its own /tg/ thread, I'll try to update it with more ork bits soon.

Now that the terminators are done, I'm moving onto the two big Dreadnoughts:

Azariah Vidya, a "gifted" Comtemptor Galatus Dreadnought with an extra Adrathic gun mount on its sword arm. Not sure how to add the Librarian bits yet, maybe make parts of the helmet blue?

Alexian, Leviathan Dreadnought: A Leviathan dreadnought, but with its fist having an Adhratic Destructor, a flamer, and a storm bolter all around beside its palm-melta for total destruction, as well as hull heavy flamers and volkites underslung its Gravitic mega gun.

I'm using all the extra weapon parts that I can bolt onto them from the Contemptor Achillus that'll have a storm bolter/heavy flamer arm combo. I'm using Blood Ravens, but I'll add some Admech as allies later. The Grey Knights will receive a Custodes reinforcement for some Gold and Silver action of the Emprah's Purest, the true incorruptible marine force of marine-ness.

It should be noted that I love bolting more weapons onto models, like the Thunderhawk's AA lascannon/heavy bolters, the extra lasers on the Dark Talon/Nephilim hybrid, and I think I'll use some Repulsor bits to give the Castraferrum dreads some Cyclone missile treatment on their tops. Oh, and yes, all my devastators got heavy weapons and the tacticals would outrage the Ultramarines, because they use way too much special weapons.

Though considering the Hellblasters, not sure if Guilliman would mind.

Also, wouldn't it explain Gabriel Angelos's size in Dow3 if he was primaris-ed like Calgar?

At one point, I had a plethora of half-assembled Necron Warriors, and a great many extra bits from assembling Immortals and Deathmarks. Those Warriors are now carrying MUCH heavier weapons than just gauss flayers :D

And considering the state of the Imperium (fucked), the only question Bobby G might ask is 'do you know how to use all those weapons?'.

Also, wouldn't it explain Gabriel Angelos's size in Dow3 if he was primaris-ed like Calgar?
It might. I'm fuzzy on this and could be mistaken, but IIRC at least some existing Space Marines were given a biogenic upgrade to improve them up to Primaris standards.

There's actually some odd precedent for that; numerous 'normie' warriors in the Emperor's retinue circa the Great Crusade (M30) were upgraded to something near-Astartes levels, because the Emp really didn't want to lose those veterans.

I think those were the Primarchs upgrading their ol' buddies to near SM status with the most notable example being Luther of the Dork Angels.

It was in Primaris fluff from the start that normal marines would be able to become primaris. Though i wonder if they could accomodate their old gear to "primaris size" because I doubt there is enough Mark 10 to go around.

To this end some of my hellblasters will have Mark VIII helmets to make them more 40k-y. The one thing I don't like about Primaris is that their armour and helms are uniform, thus not as indinvidualistic as the previous marine kits. I can't give them other chest plates (with Aqula or just skull or cables) without heavy conversion but the helmet change is an easy option to make your Primarises? stand out more individually, with purity seals and stuff on their armour, scrolls on their armour, etc.

That’s my biggest complaint. They don’t have much variety in terms of weapons either.
