So since the Ultramar Auxilia have no official rules I'm trying to create a set of custom rules so when I'm playing (with my friends anyway) I'm not just fielding a blue IG army. Brainstorm me ideas people! I want them to gain some sort of bonus from fighting alongside Ultramarines, a bonus to morale checks when attacking an enemy who are in combat with an Ultramarines unit or something of a similar nature. I also want to counteract that with some sort of penalty that affects them if the Ultras are defeated without making killing a tac-squad a quick and easy game winner for my opponent. I'm also trying to create a set of custom characters in the form of Ultramarines Captain Cato and Auxilia Captain Marcus who, as far as my personal fluff is concerned, are extremely good friends. I'd like them to have some sort of rule that applies when they're fighting together in close proximity. I'm really not familiar with the current rules so if anyone has any insight I would really appreciate input.

Also @Vitriol those are cool as fuck, why abandon them?

do it the other way- give your marine characters the voice of command rule. The voystroyans used to have doctrines to reflect an elite guard division iirc might be worth finding an old book to read them.

The Dragoons cost £10 per model. With GW ceasing bret stock that is only going to rise. I cant really justify paying at once to buy the whole army in bulk and dont like the thought of trawling through inflated ebay prices. that said if the market on bret parts plateaus in a years time i will return to them.

To replace them i am working on a Hellforge Dark mechanicus cult. :)

Have you looked into running them under modified Tyrant's Legion rules?

Is it possible to limit their options or advances to a degree, but have the ones left be innately better? It'd reflect the inflexible tactics of the modern Smurfs due to the Codex.

Not sure, gonna have to check. Standard tactics for Spess Mehreens and IG as Ally's tend to be to use the IG as cannon fodder to distract the enemy whilst the marines move for advantage and deliver damage without really getting their hands dirty. I like @exball s idea of using modded Tyrants Legion rules but I'll have to read up on them first as I want these rules to be as fluffy as humanly possible.

Isn't that whole reason for having an auxiliary force? It seems like these guys would be more than happy to fill that role.

This may be a stupid suggestion, but has anyone thought of using one of the still-on-the-sprue-tree sets as a "master" reverse to make a silicone mold & cast your own parts or models? The "dragonskin" casting silicone I used in my shop days can handle the heat of molten pewter.

As far as I know, all the products GW makes are injection-molded. So if you get a good setup on the master silicone mold with good venting, a gravity pour in pewter should work.

That the generally accepted role of the IG whereas the little bit of fluff actually written about the Auxilia talks about them being trained to almost Space Marine standards and therefore far to valuable to just kill off in large numbers for miniscule tactical advantage.

So I spent like 6 hours working on a Ghostkeel and I'm still not done. Shiiiit.

Show us a work in progress pic or stop whining lol. Also you expect to do a Ghostkeel in 6 hours? It took me 4 to do my commissar although I'll grant you I'm a slow painter.

Well, I was in a call but lots of resting my wrists due to carpet tunnel.
ouch- kudos for being patient enough to keep going though. Looking forward to seeing what they look like painted.

So most of the dark mech army I have is in my local atm and i keep forgetting to take pictures. However this morning I got a hold of the genestealer cult from the new boxed game and converted them into a Heretek and mutant tech thralls. I thought I'd share them.

In game terms they will count as chaos cultists and a sorceror. The army is comprised of 2 heldrakes, 3 forgefiends, 2 hellbrutes and a small allied cult mech det of 1 magos dominus and 9 destroyer servitors. Everything is converted and black and yellow.

Those are looking nice dude. I'm assuming the sorcerer is the one with the skull staff, really nice pose, really natural.
