God, ADB really fucking peaked with the Night Lords trilogy and can't stop showing off how much an insufferable faggot he is. Hell, its getting to the point where I'm willing to say Matt Ward is a better writer than ADB out of spite. One thing I'll always admit about Ward is that he does come off as someone you can easily chill with and actually have a fun game with. Wasn't it Chris Wright who made her or was he only borrowing her for the Valdor book.
Regardless from what I remember from the book (which I did feel cheated on since he was hardly in it) she mainly was behind the thunder warriors and she actually tried to pull the plug on the space marine project because she thought they were even more flawed and would only be a fraction of the thunder warriors effectiveness case big E wasn't listening to her.
This completely backfires when a handful of newly minted marines completely mop up the remaining thunder warriors (forgetting the exact numbers they described)
Iirc it was Emps or Malcador who suggested calling them Astartes to quote unquote "honor" her lasting legacy.

I don't think Erda is on the level of ADB's Emperor portrayal, ditto the perpetuals who appeared WAY early in the Heresy or Enuncia that was transplanted from Eisenhorn. Those are dumb and unnecessary, but they don't mess with the core aspect of the series. Making the "definitive" portrayal of the Emperor as one who never loved his sons breaks the Horus Heresy and the loyalty of the remaining loyalists, even outright justifying the Traitors. It makes "spiritual liege" pale in comparison.

That's the beauty of Battletech, you can play in whatever Era and even use old clunker mechs in newer eras. not worry about characters geting written off the board etc.

Unfortunately finding people who want to play old 40k editions regularly is difficult at least here. everyone sweats over the latest $50 annual points book.

The problem is Lore dictates models and characters in 40k existing and since GW shot themselves in the foot with lolsuits creating "no model/no rules", in 10e onwards am I not allowed to use Gabriel Seth or Pedro Kantor anymore since they got rid of them (the models)? Will they be legend'd into obscurity for a few years then eventually they will stop making rules for them alongside with all the other Firstborns? Then what?

I have to drive 1:30 to the nearest GW shop, are they going to ban me for trying to proxy old ass Firstborn for Primaris since shops love to ban people over arbitrary corporate rules?

Apparently Nids are about to get a new facelift (why?) That makes potentially three armies that could be obsolete in the next five years for me and one isn't even painted yet.

These problems don't exist for Battletech and the price point difference is astronomically skewed.
If Catalyst decided to scrub the entire lore and model lines I'd be out sub $200 on models? When gw does it I'll be out $2000-4000?

From what I remember of the Valdor book the final showdown was between 10,000 space marines and far less thunder warriors. What annoyed me about that book was the description of how the thunder warriors fought and how the marines fought was almost copypasted from The First Heretic scene where they describe how custodes fought compared to space marines. Both say the the marines are less capable one on one but fight far better as a unit. Seemed like lazy writing from Wraight even if it is lore accurate.

The latest storyline update involved Abaddon paling around with a Dark Mechanicum Demon Prince who is trying to ascend or somesuch nonsense, apparently. Wouldn't surprise me if an AdMech update is coming that will add Dark AdMech.
