DE don't actively worship

Unless GW did a massive retcon, you don't have to.

Every act in their relative spheres feeds them. So every war benefits Khorne, every nut Slaanesh, every decomposing trashheap Nurgle, every plottery Tzeentch.

The only way to stop it would be to go full necron and just wipe life out.

Worship just does this exponentially more.

That's debatable, the only Ork who claims to have ever heard the voices of Gork and Mork is Ghazghkull and he's got a metal plate drilled into his brain, and Khorne actively resurrects an entire army of Orks so they can refight one of his own armies over and over. There's actually less narrative evidence for Gork and Mork being real than there is for Malal for the fuckall they do in the setting.
Don't the Weirdboys speak to Gork/Mork plus have spells calling them? In general Orks seem to be highly chaos resistant, which is usually the opposite for chaos worshippers who have massive mutations. Plus they existed before Khorne was a real entity.

HH implies that belief empowers the gods way more than acts associated with them, which is why the gods were so desperate to kill the Emperor who (at least we assume) attempted to make a secular human society. Heck, the God of The Greater Good is a thing because human worship.
Ghazghkull invading Commorragh would be the most satisfying thing Warhammer ever did, more satisfying than resurrecting the Emperor and letting him scratch his everything.
"Finally got that fucking shard out of my eye"

Yeah active worship is better, but for example if you take into account the decay that naturally occurs it is still significant. Necrons had it right, HH shittery didn't.

There's also something very jewish to me about the whole soul-substitution legalese thing the dark eldar get up to, like how jews put their sins into a chicken and kill it at this weird festival they have every year, or the whole concept of a scapegoat. I might just be seeing semites where there aren't any though, for all I know it's a fairly common practice among many different cultures.
As a member of the tribe, you’re seeing things. All those Orthodox rituals are a sacrifice, giving something of yours up to God. The Dark Eldar are kidnapping and torturing others to hold off the destruction of their own souls.

They are a cross between the fey and vampires.

Why don't Eldar just go full monke mode like the Exodites?

It's part of why I like the Orks though. Their gods are just a excuse to fight, WAGGH, and kill shit. So fun lol.

Took my chaos space marine army out for a game today. We were playing 7th edition but I still had a blast.

Ended at a draw after 6 rounds.

Rundown of my army list
Daemon Prince of Khorne
20 Chaos Space Marines
7 Plague Marines
10 Khorne Berzerkers
10 Chaos chosen
10 terminators
1 havoc team
2 obliterators
2 Rhinos
Hellbrute
Helldrake
Forgefiend

Everything went fairly well except for a rhino getting nuked early and me forgetting my havoc team’s heaviest attacks for the first two turns.

But all in all for my first game in 18 years I’ll take a draw.

The genius of the Orks in 40K is they're stupid. Think about all the other races in other science fiction settings you can remember, how many of them were stupid on purpose? Every sci fi setting wants to push really hard that all the aliens are hyperintelligent entities worthy of the reader's respect, but not Orks. The closest thing to a stupid race in Star Trek are the Klingons, but they're not stupid, they're a warrior race with a defined hierarchy similar to the Orks, but they're still an educated, intelligent species that mingle with other races in the Federation.

You can't fuck up writing an Ork the way you could a Vulcan, if an Ork does something stupid in the broader context of the situation or the setting, it's because it's an Ork and not because the writer is dumb. Being intentionally retarded is what makes Orks truly unique in sci fi in my opinion, because writing the behaviors of one is that much more flexible than writing stringently defined races like a Vulcan or Eldar, an Ork has room to make basic mistakes that a space Elf would never make and aren't held to high writing standards, because you don't have high expectations for them as characters, the only behavioral expectation of an Ork is to fight.

Most sci-fi stories feel like some pretentious fantasy about how
"The future could be so great and utopian (and the age of consent would be 6) if only people would JUST LISTEN TO ME!"

40k is the only sci-fi setting that doesn't immediately repulse me because you can't take it too seriously.
