On the surface level I normally wouldn't care about chick marines or whatever. The problem is it won't be done well and more importantly it will never stop. They won't be satisfied until they are the new face of the franchise.
Frankly it was hilarious how they tried to retcon everything to say they were always there. The only way it's remotely working is if the yellow king, cawl or bile figures this shit out. Otherwise say goodbye to 50 percent of the fanbase.

I thought chaos mucking about was the plan. Bile has been working pretty hard on the newmen for a while and achieving some success book wise. They wouldn't be heros but it would be cool to see them become an independent faction from chaos. Plus the whole genetic perfection angle fills out the kinks.
Ironically I remember skimming a recent book description on TV tropes that basically confirmed they do secretly go out and operate on their own wherever they feel needed. The whole book conflict was over the perception that the high lords were holding them back (incorrect) and the lords reluctance to give up power to ultra Rob. (Correct)

Pretty much, the average normie gives as much of a fuck about a franchise as any other. Most people in a hobby, let alone the world, don't engage with the community beyond seeing highly rated posts that is highly rated for one reason or another. "They see 'x', they soypog, and then they leave."
Well said, the people who boycott are barely a fraction of a franchise, the whales only amount to so much regardless. No big influencer who disagrees with this retcon will openly state it unless they're already blacklisted from GW or the community (Arch Warhammer for example), or else they'll lose any sort of actual influence they have as they're listed as "not a sheep." To truly "kill" a franchise is to either purge it from your mind and forget about it, or for the company to make a decision that the majority of the people who fund them will revolt against. It's the only way, no amount of 3D printers and upset true fans will matter if the majority of normies don't care. Blackrock can probably sustain "losing" money with ESG for years, because their income probably easily sustains them.

I've played more OPR than 10th edition! ... and it's still not that much. I'm sure there are more dedicated communities, but there was some hubub in my local area that kind of just died off on it's own. It goes back to the usual reality that for a non GW game to thrive, it needs a champion or 3 to constantly organize events and meetups, at least till it starts getting actual traction. I am working on my High Elf Fleets (bootleg Eldar) printed army and has given me an excuse to collect a small Eldar force focused around Aspect warriors that is actually gameplay viable. I'm also using them as proxies for Firefight, though again, that one is also pretty light,
Have a big community of that here, but I am in Europe. The KoW people are very dedicated though. I personally love the game and how many opportunities for modelling it offers. Have a full Free and Imperial Dwarf armies made out of Oathmark, Avatars of War, Forgotten World, MOM miniatures, offical Mantic and other smaller brands here and there and being able to customize it with whatever I thought was cool as pure joy. Also have some Riftforged Orcs in the pile of shame I'll get to once I have finished all of my Dwarfs.
Biggest suggestion I can give is to join the big Facebook group if you can stomach that and ask if there is anything near your area. I honestly think the game is worth it, specially if you want rank and flank.
Crisis, Legion and Shatterpoint do seem popular in my area, but I have a seething hatred for the disney goyslop, so even if the system is possibly great, I'm just unwilling to engage.
I played a lot of Song of Ice and Fire during it's first edition though and its alright, though the game is pretty swingy and it's not really rank and flank as much as 4-6 units on the table with a gigantic foot print due to how mobile they are, models are great for the price point though, have been considering more than a few times to use them as a base for another KoW army. It's definitely on the cheaper side or you can look into installing the vassal module to try it with some online rando if that makes you more comfortable, since the module is incredibly refined.
Conquest... is weird as fuck, the game feels astroturfed to high hell with a lot of venture capital behind it, like if it was some rich dude's passion project. I do have an army of Dweghom that I've fielded a few times, but I pretty much just use it as an Ogre army in KoW. The game's scale is huge so model reusability is on the hard side and it demands big formations to really get to the meat of it. Basically, it's a very high investment game to get into. Rules are changing constantly which can be a good or bad thing depending on where you fall there. I did play it before it's 2.0 and after playing KoW, it honestly just felt very clumsy, though that may have improved (heard that unit trays of 4 models are now treated like single entities instead of a base with 4 models that reduce efficiency while taking wounds, this is important because cav and monsters that were a single one to a tray were strictly better thanks to being faster and being better at attrition). I'm also more and more convinced that rank and flank games really benefit a lot more from full IGO UGO turns than alternating activations, with IGO UGO formations are actually important, but with alternating it suddenly becomes a game of actions, reactions and outactivation.
As for Infinity, like the models, but never gelled with the game, needing laser pointers to play properly drives me up the wall, the older I become, the more I believe abstract LoS is king and "Real line of sight" is just arguments waiting to happen and in Infinity it's one of those systems where you really need to be able to get those clearly defined firing lanes.
There was some noise about Bolt Action and was tempted to collect some germans, but never seemed to get traction on locals ad project fell on the wayside. System seemed neat though the random activation based on unit dice seemed like it could be very swingy. I've also heard that if you play it in a "non cavalier" way, a horde of angry nips running and stabbing is one of the most efficient forces in the game which is pretty retarded. But again, I wouldn't mind getting to a WW2 army eventually.
Well, again, this is all based on your community. There is a surprisingly active Malifaux community in my area, the fuckers have been keeping the game alive for like... what 5-6 years now? Since it stopped getting proper store support. They are very much still into it even though it's hell to actually get new players. I haven't played Malifaux in ages since I just couldn't keep up with the game's feature creep (aside from the setting and background becoming gayer and gayer each book as well as their designs being more insipid as time goes on) but as an objective based skirmish game it's still one of the best I ever played. Warmahordes I'm still sad it died the incredibly stupid death that it did... though you never know, if there are some grognards still playing MK2 and MK3, well, might be worth taking a peek is all I'm saying.

It's become more and more obvious to me that a ton of companies have become addicted to "free money" and now that it ain't free, there is a lot of panic in the air because they made their whole strategy around it, but it's not as easy to secure anymore. That GW is pandering to this faggotry this late is what baffles me.
Very much dependent on game. Hyper competitive 40K? They demand official models, give 0 shits about paint. For other competitive players it's strictly conditioned by how strict or lax the army presentation rules are. 40K for the most part is the most anal one about WYSIWYG though. For more casual environments, it depends more on the age of the game itself (and how it tends to attract some players or others). Older games have a lot more fully painted armies, KoW you barely ever see a table in events where everything isn't painted, it may or may not be the best quality, but it's mostly older men that have been in the hobby a very long time and have done a lot of projects. Song of Ice and Fire on the other hand you see a lot of plastic since it's much newer, it is also a good gateway game so for a decent number of people it's their first wargame and since there is no model assembly, the process of purchase to table is instant.
Well, yeah, of course it's about money, for the desire for the elusive "mass appeal", but these faggots never understand that if you change something too much to make it appeal to more people, it can suddenly lose it's appeal for the people that always stuck with you and you suddenly start bleeding out. It's the usual "why are the white people leaving but no women and blacks replacing them in droves?", because you pissed off the whites by alienating them and the women and blacks never cared from the outset.
There are no sells to correlate though. It's why this move is extra shifty. GW has always taken decisions based on their release schedule. But there is nothing to release here. Women custodes are a thing now, but if you look at the model range only, you would be none the wiser. Ursual Creed wasn't just name dropped, you had her ugly mug right then and there day 1 with the Guard release. This was purely a virtue signal to the faggots asking for female space marines and they will get asspats for a day till the thirst for their blood comes back louder than ever since they bent the knee for effectively nothing.
Also, 40K is a strange beast since it's the only wargame that is not just about the wargame. You can be a 40K fan and only read the novels, or be a 40K fan and only play the videogames.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't with this sort of change. Primaris were met with huge outrage at the time, with the most common sentiment being that they should have just released truescale loyalist Marines as they had with Chaos instead of adding an enormous Mary-Sue in the form of Cawl who could outdo the Emperor (and invalidate Marine armies, the most common among players, in the process) to add a whole new design language, which also didn't have a good looking model until Bladeguard. To this day, I still count Primaris among the fluff that I don't acknowledge for my 40k TTRPG. Total retcons aren't much better, but also hardly unprecedented - people gradually seem to have come to accept Newcrons and that was far more jarring than this, which desperately searched for technicalities to say that ACKSHUALLY, there was always room in the setting for this.

I've still got a large warmahordes mk3 army sitting around somewhere collecting dust. At this point I'd love for the studio to finally go bankrupt, have someone buy the IP and rebuild it into a new game. But this time without the tranny poz discord, the community that decides it's a good idea to take calipers to game stores to measure spray templates for advantage... so much potential but so much fucking fail.
And as a company their insistence on having 20+ warcasters for some factions(which is more than unit counts for some 40k armies) and never dropping anything from the game certainly didn't help either(leading to utterly massive SKU bloat). Nor did insisting on staying in Washington state when they got eminent domain'd out of their existing building(could have taken the money and setup in a cheaper area). Really Matt Wilson micromanaged the company into failure. At one point in late mk3 they had their QA lead blow up on FB admitting he hadn't played the game in a damned year... shit is just ridiculous.

I like Fantasy, but fuck me did they fuck it up with The End Time, I know that was ages ago but it still sucks. Age of Sigma is meh, Total War was completely butchered when TW Warhammer became popular. It was not in the best spot but still.

To be fair, Warmachine should have gone into "maintanance mode" after like the 5th expansion book where it should just have been a unit or two per faction and mostly fluff and do a new game instead. But they always failed miserably to expand out of the warmahordes brand. Malifaux had the exact same issue where they were just unable to release a different self sustaining product to slow down the releases on the main line (The Other Side was a disaster of epic proportions) and stop it getting too bloated, but it's hard to do something like this when only the main game actually brings in money. Only brand I saw managed to do that was Infinity with the release of Aristeia.
This on the other hand is them just being retarded. I was around during the MKII beta and that was a great time between the ending of MK1 and the release of MKII, I did kind of lose my mojo in the middle of MKII (I played Menoth and Skorne, once the dust settled they came out well enough but Menoth lost a lot of it's denial identity in the change and Skorne completely lost it's original vision of "I will punish you for doing what you want really hard"), but I was still passively following around.
But jesus FUCK was MKIII a giant fucking disaster and purely self inflicted. I'm still amazed at how they killed the Privateer program and the forums back to back. These games live and die by their community ambassadors and shills.

I remember there was this massive faggot at my local game store where they had tournaments (not just Warhammer), he'd always run a meta army for Warhammer (he only came in to buy Warhammer figures and play Warhammer every so often) and they were always unpainted. Store banned unpainted models and I never heard from him again. Fuck you Nathan you lazy fuck, fuck you and your Screamer Star bullshit. Whatever, store was closed a while ago.

I never really got why the stock thing as this "Gotcha!" moment, that shit shifts for many reasons and I highly doubt Fem custodes are one of them.
Honestly, not that different from the mouthbreathers who cry "We need to gatekeep 24/7", both are insuffarable twats.
That was actually a kneejerk reaction to Washington state(again, another reason to get out of that shithole) causing problems for them legally due to the MTG judge program getting so much shit finally for the pedos being exposed, not wanting to do background checks on people they wanting hanging around kids, etc. So Washington makes it illegal to have volunteers paid with cards and shit(like the MTG judges), PP freaks the fuck out and jettisons their pressgang program and forums because they're afraid the state.
So now LGS don't have any community volunteers to do demo games, organize small events, etc. leaving the community(at least in most of the US, and some of it internationally as well based on the discord during mk3) to become a bunch of feral "that guy" inviting new players to games just to curb stomp them, arguing about bases being in contact even if the intent was stated for being in contact and pulling out a laser to prove there's .0001" between the bases so they aren't in contact, like I said measuring the spray templates with calipers in the packages, fudging the arcs/facing marks on base rims so they aren't quite 90 or 180.
So the casuals moved out, and trannies moved in rainbow flags got permanently put up, I think they left their general chat as pridechat or some shit after pride month for a few years, hired some tranny community managers that never played the damned games and couldn't hold a conversation when people were trying to discuss balance problems. There was an entirely separate group that ran the wiki... loremachine or something like that? That eventually came up with a 25 point format, banned a whole bunch of models, and tried to make a more casual version of the game but the remaining hyper competitive people(mostly cheating) immediately jumped on that and shit it up as a way to just keep pummeling anyone trying to get into the game(since the minis everywhere were basically 50% off at the time, nevermind their insane "mystery boxes" with $500 in product for like $80 trying to clear out their warehouse and pretend nothing was wrong), they lost most of their public facing staff to asmodee/atomic mass games and some other company, lost their painting staff that was making youtube videos, launched their stupid skirmish boardgame aristeia clone adding even MORE characters to warmahordes at the same time, relaunched monster pocalypse for the third time to an immediate failure, launched their warmahordes 40k wannabe scifi game that immediately failed because it was entirely kickstarted so no game stores even wanted to support it(wtf would an LGS want to host events for a game where all of the players literally have all of the product already and notoriously drive off new players). It just goes on and on...
Seriously, it's a sub 2% drop. It's not even at the same low that it hit back in March, or December, or November and it's still up right now from where it was in April 2023. 2022 was when their stock price took a beating as the stupid pandemic was finally over and shipping costs(among other things) were through the roof and it bottomed out somewhere around $65. Their latest revenue report was January and they do half-year so we won't get the next one until July. That's when any real revenue drop will need to be explained, and have repercussions on stock value if it can't be spun positively. But even then they've got the AoS 4.0 release coming at the same time, which is going to likely remain an incentive to buy(the stock) due to speculation over the revenue gain for the 2nd half of 2024 anyway. Unless this dip turns into something drastic, all it's amounted to is putting them right back to where they were for a good portion of the YTD anyway and they just came off of a bump from dividend payouts not even a couple of weeks back.
At this point it's like the star wars grifters going on about how Kathleen Kennedy is due to get fired any minute now... for the past 4 years.
