That's honestly one of the reasons a lot of the GW hate channels get so tiresome. There are plenty of legit reasons to hate GW, no need to make crap up or just be pedantic about things. This is something I don't understand about AOS, specifically Stormcast. If you believe the internet they are simultaneously the basic bitch option everybody plays, but also the army everybody hates and GW can't sell for love nor money. I don't get this mindset that every GW kit needs to always be sold out or it's shit. I'm all for hating GW, but at least hate them for reasons that make sense.
As far as stormcast, my opinions on AoS as a whole aren't great and I honestly don't pay too much attention to it other than when it comes up or something is weird at the store. But with stormcast there's a few specifics. It's a basic faction that people can't throw a metallic paint on, pick a color for some robes and the weapons, add a wash, and be done with it. It's the same reason space marines are GW's poster boy faction, they're easy to point, aren't spindly, and little Timmy can get a decent paintjob with a little effort. With stormcast though at least initially they were just space marines without the backpacks, which is why everyone called them sigmarines, people didn't want that. You've also got people who hate what happened to WHFB(even though the game was dead) and stormcast is what they can point at for being the cause.
As far as stormcast not selling, that's just also not true. The AoS dominion boxes(the 3.0 launch box) are still collecting dust here and there, but that's not because of the stormcast. It's mostly due to GW vastly overproducing it and wanting the same rate of sell through they saw with Indomitus(40k 9th edition launch box) except Indomitus launched during the pandemic when people were sitting around bored. Dominion also had the unfortunate issue of having the "kruelboyz" in it, aka weirdly ugly swamp orks that most people weren't interested in. Stormcast are readily available cheap on ebay via launch boxes as well, but that's not because they don't sell, it's because GW produces so many of the damned things. If these random GW hate channels actually used some sense or applied the same logic to space marines as they do stormcast, they'd have to come to the conclusion that space marines don't sell either... which is obviously bullshit.
Something else a lot of people don't necessarily know due to either not paying attention, or simply being new to things, is that before the stupid pandemic, GW boxes didn't exactly always immediately sell out either. I've seen the 2018 apocalypse boxes sitting on sale at stores without absurd markups as recently as 2022. I even specifically remember seeing some of the 2018 and 2019 christmas boxes(blood angels and space wolves come to mind) after the pandemic sitting on shelves as well. But instead it's "lol, GW dumb, things aren't sold out in 48 hours", when as said in this thread it doesn't necessarily mean the product is shit, it's just not as interesting due to the cost or the contents, or GW actually produced enough that they didn't sell out in 30 seconds(which happened in 2020, and most of them in 2021 and 2022).
Getting back around to what the internet says... just don't believe everything the internet says because some people are just entirely full of shit. Like yesterday you mentioned that you had seen people claiming that dark angels were meta... when the reality is they aren't even close to being meta and that's observable via stat-check and metamonday. Just because some has an army that is a horrible match up into DA, or is just a shitter at the game and repeatedly gets their ass kicked by a local DA player, doesn't mean anything when we can observe the results of hundreds of games played around the world every weekend.
