I've decided to finally build my first proper army after putting together some thousand sons back in the day (and stopping when I got to painting the trim). I can't decide if I want to go with either an alpha legion or imperial agents (eisenhorn and retinue) + deathwatch army. I know deathwatch has been doing pretty well lately with their new detachment, but I haven't heard much about CSM besides Night Lords. Any opinions or suggestions for one or the other? Any glaring retardation on my part that I should know about?

Oh, and an update about that newly daemonic rogue trader I posted about a while back in this thread. He got himself a chaos vvitch, blackmailed another rogue trader, met the Tau, and has decided he's going to turn the Foundling worlds into his own Imperial Protectorate so he can make mass use of tau tech + the more liberal imperial creed and not have to purge the xenos who willingly submit to human rule. That and the concept of the "Heretek Turducken" was coined last session after fighting a Tau Battlesuit.

Can someone give me a quick rundown on the controversy with Trench Crusade? I'm not sure why it gets so much hate from 40k vets. It seems interesting.
Its claim to fame is that its primarily from artist Mike Franchina and One of the Mordheim designers, midwits think its a 40k killer because of its crowdfunded nature and ex-GW people leading it.
The same happened with "Gundam Assemble". The Gunpla minis game that is coming out. That has no GW vets and is being praised. It could be because I was away from tabletop minis games, but I got real sick of this. Every new minis game is a "GW killer" or that "GW is cooked". I recently saw some YouTube videos in my recommended feed with John Blanche having made a game. Cue the usual "GW is cooked" "GW missed this" type headlines. I'm not clicking on them to see if YouTube will get a clue.

So much of 40k discourse online is either GW boot licking, or people mad at GW but then keep spending money on every mini they put out.

Sigismund is the poster child for this, ABD, French and Abnett wanked this really boring “too edgy 4 me” guy who the text calls “wrath made flesh” which is standard 40k description but not during the Siege of Terra where everyone is wrath made flesh. It’s just gay, like we have numerous pages of Keeler marvelling at Sigismund being a badass motherfucka and killing Kharn and being everywhere, meanwhile we’re just gonna ignore the immediate aftermath stuff we’d all like to see (Roboute glassing Mars, Emps getting installed in the toliet, the meeting of the Primarchs afterwards) but no, what was JOHN GRAMATICUS DOING?
Abnett should be made fun of for completely botching the alpha legion.
Super cool legion with an interesting concept yeah they join chaos and fall for literally the most obvious low IQ psyop on the face of the planet wait aren't these guys supposed to be masters of infiltration and subversion.

and the whole cabal plot line was legitimately the single stupidest thing ever in the HH books the fact of the matter is he stole that from the Illuminati concept that hasn't been updated for a long time which was much more interesting.

I've given GW about $150 of the past year I buy most of my stuff secondhand from a little guy who I'm 100% convinced to stealing it but I don't know that because you know I'm just assuming he gets all of it for on the cheap.

Great, I asked the BL support to refund me and them delete my account, and the fucker just deleted my account, no word of the refund yet.
You know, fuck it, they deserve piracy

Eisenhorn is in Legends now and the Deathwatch that's doing well is a Space Marine Index. Agents is in kind of a weird spot competitively. They don't have an actual army rule and their detachments have the issue of being overly specific. I think they can work, but you're basically playing the Fleet detachment. The good news is you're still bringing a lot of Deathwatch, the bad news is they're better as a Space Marine army.

I can't believe anyone still fucking gives them money, pathetic paypigs. I built a renegade marine KT entirely out of bits I bought on eBay AND I made sure it was genuine sellers and not GW flogging stock via a third party seller (apparently they do this with their books?)

This reminds me of when Waterstones got busted opening up book shops / coffee places under different names a little while ago. It makes me wonder how much GW is involved with the sellers who'll sometimes sell special edition books for literally hundreds of pounds.

that's why you ask for one thing at a time. first the refund, once that is cleared you send them a nice GDPR letter.

>using GW plastic
Pfft, I built an entire renegade Chaos army with clay and paint I scavenged from the local area around me like Navajo clay pots. Imagine giving faggots on ebay your hard earned dollars when the earth provides. Literally COULD NOT be me.

More and more I'm convinced piracy isn't only justified but a moral obligation.
There is no circumstance where I regard piracy as morally unjustifiable. If I like an individual artist enough Ill give them some cash after the fact, but corpos can fuck off. I will not watch ze ad, and I will not buy ze book.

Honestly a buddy of mine used clay and paint to make his Death Guard army more nurgley, especially the tanks

Looking at the detachment, I didn't notice that. But them being spes marines shouldn't be a problem since you can bring imperial agents with them and keep the detachment as long as they're not imperial agents Deathwatch which is odd but doesn't hinder my inquisitorial scheme. As for Eisenhorn, he's not on the list of legends and given that he got a fancy new mini more recently than the assassins they put in the combat patrol box, he should be fine unless I can't read.

I do appreciate the advice to avoid running it at an agents of the imperium army, though. It'd be kind of funny to tell people I'm running space marines and then show up with this Imperial clusterfuck. If I really want to sip the soup, I could even toss in an imperial knight, give it some deathwatch or inquisition paint job.

With piracy I had sympathy for developers as they'd often be some bedroom coders trying to make some beer&pizza money on the side but more and more their publishers realized they can use piracy as an excuse to push a service model where even if you own their product, they will cut as many corners as they can so it will degrade fast enough for you to have to buy the new, slighty changed product to hand them money ASAP.

I just bought one of Peter Fehervari's stories because hes one of the few BL authors who write good literature, and not just good 40K. And this is the result.

I was thinking in trying latter with another account when I had some money to spend, but now? Fuck it, gonna wait until someone posts Nighshift Nineteen on Z-Lib instead

I mean, I expected the Australopitecus on IT would get that when I ask for a refund, and them for deletion, he would do the refund and them the deletion.

I (try) and buy books because i want physical media that cant be taken away from me. I swear GW dont like money because they never print their books and no way am i paying more than ~30ish for a book

The updated Ynnari rules effectively gut the whole thing. Harlequins can still be selected only as detachments since they won't share the same model keyword.
You can also still take some DEldar, but not Lelith, or Drazhar, or hellions, scourges, mandrakes etc.
I suppose not knowing what to do with the Ynnari extends to the crunch, rather than squatting Yvraine they're just letting the army languish into oblivion.

Wonder if they’ll explain where all the forgotten characters were during the celebrations. Not camping names of course.

Three of these things were there for the party, one literally spawned in just to make an appearance and read books.

They need a seperate codex at this point. They should be able to access 2/3 of Drukhari and all Aeldari except a few leaders.

With that roster, you could craft rules, points and detachments that are balanced independent of the other two codexes. Give them a real identity. But that wont happen, because it depends on GW advancing the story.
