What tournaments are you going to that allow unpainted armies? wtf? Painting requirements(as simple as they are, 3 colors, a "technique" like washes or drybrushing, and something for the base), are one of the things that some shitty casual players have cried about for years.

3rd ed heresy is pretty much going to be the edition that 30k is going to get goysloped for all the 40konsoomers and metaslaves. Expect to see all your favourite things from 10th e 40k slowly get added in and narrative/thematic gameplay getting swapped out for streamlined tournament play and constant meta updates so the consoomers buy a new set of [CURRENT THING] every month. I also cant wait for all the troons and tourists (who previous to the announcment) had largely ignored 30k are now going to flock to a new game to subvert and conquer it. Equally cant wait for the Unification war novel expansion GW is headed too and for it to just be "LE IMPERIUM BAD, LE EMPEROR BAD, LE FEMSTODES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN HERE ect ect.
That didn't answer my question. Tournaments have had painting requirements for years for 40k, and even 30k and people who refuse to paint their models bitch and moan about it regularly and they aren't tournament players. The competitive players who do chase the meta will show up with simple paintjobs. Primer, rattlecan base coat, pick out metallics for guns and swords, and a spot color on a helmet or pauldron or something, then throw on a wash and some terrain paste and not care.
Even your basic RTT 3 game single day at the local game store events will generally have painting requirements. Bitching about unpainted armies at a tournament doesn't make any sense for someone actually going to them.

I mean, I play in a lot of 30k tournaments, and I think unpainted armies are less of an issue. I found that so long a decent amount of it is painted, people will let it slide. Usually the bitching comes from 40k meta-chasers who didnt get to paint their newest plastic crack they got last week because of a balance update to dominate the tournament. And to be fair I have played in store events where there where no painting requirments, you just would not get the 10VP for a painted army.

Also considering the new status rules for pinned/suppressed/etc and having 4 stats replacing leadership, I don't think the shitty 40k trannies that barely understand 40k would want much to do with 30k. More complicated is the last thing they'd want.

I think it's the other way around. Tournament players might stay away from 30k because of templates. Back during 40k 3rd, there was always arguments about those, and that was before sweats joined the hobby.
My (albeit limited) understanding of 40k trannies is that they love ruining lore with pride marines, portraying Slaanesh as "heckin valid and wholesome chungus", and complaining about "bigots" on the internet. Something they could very easily do to 30k.
They can buy the shit and paint it in tranny flag colors all day, doesn't mean they'll ever play it. Look at the D&D crowd, those people are afraid of doing anything more complicated than adding a single digit number and sometimes can't even handle that. Replacing leadership with 4 stats for different checks, and then having actual morale effects for being pinned or routed is not something they'd be willing to stick with for a game.

No, HH is not in danger of the tranny, 40k is. HH is the side game for the experienced autist, it has a higher entry cost, more expensive models, more numbers, resin models the wetbrain hates, required kitbashing for some characters/units, setting “rules” that are non-negotiable and no xenos.

I love the old plastic kit, the options it had were glorious, four god-marked pauldrons, heads and banners is unthinkable nowadays.
Infantry yes, go look at characters and specialized units though, that resin is apparently worth it’s weight in gold.
The other catch is the infantry might be cheaper but you’ll need more of it for a whole army.
Even with the autism to tranny pipeline I don't see that happening for HH. The shit people come up with here sometimes makes me wonder if they actually play or even go outside. HH 2.0 had a huge marketing push as well, did trannies invade it? No.
My armies, no since I go to events regularly and people love posting photos of shit no matter how many times you shoo away people with cameras. Some generic characters that I don't need to go dig for and don't need to match any army? Sure. I don't have anything in progress at the painting table yet either, still undecided on what I want to tackle next.
To add to this, a tactical marine squad for 40k, is 140 points. A tactical legionary squad for HH is 100 points, and HH is played anywhere from 2000-3000 points(more commonly 2500 or 3000. I've also seen some 3500 point events but that's just ridiculous, and rare). A 40k rhino, 75 points. HH rhino, 35 points. 40k vindicator is 185 points, HH vindicator is 120 points. 40k storm eagle is 255, HH storm eagle is 210. So even playing at 2000 points, you're going to be fielding a lot more models.
