Started reading The Infinite and The Divine and the first two chapters are such a fucking slog to get through for someone new to the whole necron thing. So much technobabble that it makes my head spin.
It gets better. Especially when theres a group meeting of elder Necrons (im being vague to not spoil much). Dialogue is very fun.
I'm about halfway through and enjoying it.

Nothing quite like a bunch of old fucks who have done nothing over the past several million years but nurse their grudges towards each other.

If you’ve ever read anything from the Silver Age of comics, it’s all that, it’s just flavour text. With the more esoteric factions, if a term repeats then you look it up, if it doesn’t, it’s decor.

Like reading chaos space marines for the first time, Neverborn fucked me up until I looked it up. My buddy sent me an angry text, “What the fuck is an infinity circuit?” because someone spilled some Eldar in his space marine porridge.

Basically this. Some of the imperial shit is far worse with all of the faux latin nonsense.

At least Infinite and Divine isn't like the first chapter of The Twice Dead King: Ruin. That one is just a slog of pseudo techno-gibberish just to establish that the main character has basically divided up his brain like CPU cores or something(but with personalities). But later on with infinite and divine, when they've repeatedly been using terms most are pretty easy to figure out just by context.

It’s that shit that made me put down the Ahriman omni and never read anything by John French (boring shit writer) or with the bastard sons of Magnus. God damn, that gibberish was ridiculous, even by 40k standards.

The Word Bearers trilogy did it better, the lads are almost never idle, they’re in hostile environments so you get the thought process and mindset but not the “Brethren of the Gal Vorbak, please report to the Mallignus for primary Olavestus Xaatigaan. Bring your Wryth-pact armaments for ritualized Cochisian armamentarium,” nonsense of the TS books.
Fucking ridiculous Ahriman gets four books. French’s nepotism is worse than ADB’s.

lol, well I hate to inform you of this but it's 5 now. If you think the bullshit babble speak in the first book was bad, when the damned harlequins get involved John French trying to write out interpretive dance routines and shitty theater kid poetry is even worse. And this is all so Ahriman can piss off a necron overlord and end up playing Groundhog Day after a solitaire basically makes him shit himself while panicking about the pyrodomon for 2 or 3 books.. There's also another 8(i think?) short stories involved centered on Ctesias, and then an audiodrama.

No, I've got no idea why John French likes Ahriman so damned much.

I listened to an excerpt of that limited edition Iron Warriors short story where Perturabo and Honsou meet and play 40k together.

I hope they maintain his matured character development from that if they bring him back to the setting. He's still a dick, but willing to admit when he's been wrong and won't bitchslap you into next week for telling him something he didn't wanna hear.

Being willing to accept feedback from his subordinates and learn from his mistakes will make him even more dangerous.

Just listened to this lore video about the Dark Mechanicum:
I don't know how you all feel about Abominable Intelligence and the narrator seems to be AI and so does the art (I actually like the chunky art style) but what's really important is the script. I'm pretty sure a human wrote all of it because I would do things like attempt to corroborate claims about one Heretek or another on the bloated Fandom wiki and it all seems to check out. In my experience, LLMs hallucinate about games pretty readily so almost a full hour with no red flags is very encouraging. Only thing I didn't like was a few aspects of pronunciation and sometimes calling them the "Dark Mechanicus" (though, in fairness, there is a Black Library book in the Grey Knights omnibus called Dark Adeptus).

Which one is that

In Hammer of Olympia, a Techpriest points out a least significant digit error in his calculations (i.e. it probably didn't even matter that much) which makes Perturabo self-consciously red in the face

I wanna say it's called "Half-Breed" or something like that? Again, I think it was only published in a limited run of the Iron Warriors omnibus. I have that on Kindle, but don't know if it's included. Just heard it on Youtube.

I've read it. I laughed when Dantioch has to face Perty and gives him all the wrong answers.
D: "The Apothecaries say the Hrud have aged me 2,000 years! Cut your losses and ditch this sector!"
P: "I DON'T GIVE A SHIT! GET OUT OF MY SIGHT YOU INCOMPETENT SCRUB!"
And let's not forget the poor admiral whose spine got Bo Jackson'd over Perty's knee for telling him Olympia had rebelled. As if that was his fault.
Wait, that legit happened and wasn't just a joke by the chans? Fuck me, that sounds glorious.
Oh yeah. Honsou even mouths off to him and doesn't get splattered on the spot.

John French has pull, he’s the dickhorn who’s the reason most the HH 2.0 models were the Fists and the reason why they were broke AF.

So that Ahriman shit? That’s not due to organic interest. I fucking hate Ahriman, he’s the worst of the four champions because he does the “I hate Chaos,” thing that’s so boring.

Pert has his favorites and if a marine has his favour, he’ll listen to what they have to say. He’s autistic, not unreasonable, he liked Forrix, Falk and Kroeger.
Honsou is his perfect son, it took longer for him to come to be, but he is an embodiment of the legion and Pert’s values, the same way Lucius, Kharn, Typhus, Decimus and Marduk are their legion doctrine made flesh.

In a better world, each champion, the old third-edition boomers and the BL-origin guys would have rules.

It was in my librarius the entire time

Oh yeah, I'm reading Angel Exterminatus and Berossus is all confused by the fact that not only is he not completely dead after he upset Perty but pleasantly surprised that he got a kickass Contemptor body as way of autistic apology for getting turned into a wet smear across his Primarch's fists.

I'd love to see Honsou get some rules, especially if they can make his not-exactly-honorable nature stand out.

Its an excellent read and pretty much mandatory after reading Dead Sky, Black Sun.

Does he? Sure he's written a handful of HH novels, but other than the Ahriman stuff it's mostly random short stories. Seems weird for anyone to have pull it'd be him. Especially if he's got the GW gun paycheck to his head demanding he write half the shit he does and not because he's interested in it.

You know, black library unit wishlist for rules? I think id like lucifer blacks. Be a nice change to get a black library unit again over a character. And it seems like they put more effort into the rules for units then random one of characters.

The IW's in Storm of Iron have some wholesome moments amongst themselves (by the standards of devil-worshipping, sociopathic war criminals ofc.).

Kroeger sincerely loathed Honsou, but Forrix and Falk were using their prejudice against a halfbreed to shit-test him and make him stronger. Forrix and Falk both eventually tell him that he's an Iron Warrior at heart despite being tainted with Dorn's blood.

(Which I imagine like Balkan or Middle Eastern ethnic blood feuds; if you aren't one of them, it's just Hatfields and McCoys).

Hey is that big bundle of STLs that people passed around a few years back still a thing? Im looking for some hive city or space hulk themed type of bases for an arbities kill team. Doesn't feel right doing the standard outdoor battlefield for their bases.

Anyone ever grabbed one of those citadel finecast upgrade sprues? found one for cheap online, wondering what I'm in for

Ever work with a lot of resin before? Think a step above your normal chink recast. Usually brittle. Expect some bubbles or warping, especially if there are spindaly pieces.
