I just had a thought, what would happen if the Imperium tried sacrificing a captured Eldar to power the Emporer?
Nothing really; a slightly larger psychic meal means nothing. In fact, we are told they have been sacrificing more than the classic 1.000 for the last centuries as the Throne decays.

Finally got to prestige all classes in SM2, Heavy was the last. I think I'm focusing on fully prestige only Sniper and Tactical, I'm still too shit at melee for other classes.

A minor thing I got while on my journey to fully prestige Sniper: it takes a lot of missions to unlock a helmet. Other than that, you gotta see this guy's exposed skull cap, which I am not a fan.

I think Assault also starts with only exposed faces, but at least you unlock the helmet faster.

I've started reading the Ciaphas Cain books and am pleased to report that not only are they good 40K stories but they are well written and engaging all around. Good work Sandy

Love these books. They're a great primer of not only the guard but also all the chaos and xenos the imperium interacts with.

They're also a good example of the Imperium of Man being full of mostly decent people trying their best, even if redditors winge about how "evil" it is to fight genocidal aliens and the forces of hell.

Most of 'em are really good, there's a couple stinkers(mostly shit focusing on chaos because it's boring, but not everything) but that's bound to happen with anything having that many books. Sandy Mitchell has been surprisingly consistent over the years.

I bring glorious news. Remember how you couldn't change chaos armor for "lore" reasons?

GW saw the money and said screw it. I can now roleplay as a night Lord for every class and wear any emblem. You want to pretend to be a regular marine with older armor and clean off all that chaos shit? Entirely possible, although the helmet selection is still rather limited. Its pretty nice.

Is Deathwing any good? I know it's made by the same guys who made E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy.
Deathwing was entertaining as a fan but it had flaws. The graphics and presentation are great, almost enough to overcome everything else, but it's lacking in both story and gameplay.

The single player story is pretty simple and lacking in texture. Space Hulk is threatening planet. Deathwing go in, retrieve shit and blow it up. There is a bit about finding a fallen signal and investigating it but all you really learn is that some poor chaos bastard got eaten by nids. There's some minor story elements they added that get cut off in multiplayer sessions ( all the mission briefing dialogue, opening party banter, minor cutscenes and weird brief flashbacks were you play as a dude fighting nids alone ) But your not missing anything. There's no twist or unique spin on the nids, its just the same old stuff.

Gameplay in said single player is... Well it could be better. First off, only three marines including you which is insufferable in a 4 player game. You cant give them more then basic commands and they can die easily if your not paying attention. (I played this shit on easy and it didn't feel fair) Secondly, simply playing is frustrating because your dealing with close and far ranged enemy's at the same time. You want to relax and cave in skulls in for an hour? too bad, here's 10 cultists on a walkway shooting at your ass from 5 different directions. Oh you you want to just go full gun? Have fun being bum rushed in tight spaces by genestealers, and being unable to effectively snipe cults with shitty zoom in. There's no flexable class that can take on most situations as they change. They try to make it a little easier by locking you in as a Librarian, but there's some weapons and abilities your locked out of as a result.

It's just not the fun Left 4 dead, murder simulator I wanted it to be, but for what it is with friends im sure it's great.

Also brief bit of sperging but why the hell is it so difficult to buy 40k comics? I wanted to get some for a newbie and the marvel comics are either sold out or priced at a 100 a pop

That looks small for a daemon prince. If it's the same size as the individual release it would make dark water worth the purchase along side the pestigors and shaman.
Base size is apparently 50mm. Rough size comparison:

Also, obligatory bitching about GW being GW: The preorder page for Darkwater shows base sizes for everybody but the prince.

I'd say it's more cheap version of Doom, cause it has executions, rall running and sliding. Again, like Deathwing has a great art direction and atmosphere. Combat wise however? You either get enemies that stupidly run your ass or will try and snipe ya, with the game loving to throw a lot of them. An executions being madly made, it really becomes a clusterfuck to see where shit is hitting ya from.
Deathwing's jank really gives it charm.

If that were true they'd let us use the fucking shit in PVE, even if it was only in private lobbies/solo. It is nice, though, that I dont have to play as a fuckin sniper if I wanna be Alpha Legion now.
One really cool thing I just noticed is you can customize your ai companions now. Now everyone can be a blood raven.

Currently reading through Eisenhorn, enjoying it a lot so far, despite barely just starting (still working through Xenos). For after I finish the omnibus, what are some good world eater/admech novels? (I haven't read absolutely anything space marine related and really do not want to read none quadrillion horus heresy books)
I am also honestly open to an abridged-esque reading guide to the Horus heresy, like what the minimum books I’d have to read of it for proper context to other novels. I mostly listen to audio books so each book takes a while.

Also,
I just had a thought, what would happen if the Imperium tried sacrificing a captured Eldar to power the Emporer?
He’d get a little gayer.

I still don't understand why GW/Black Library continues to be so reluctant to do reprints. Looking at various books and omnibuses, most out of print go for triple or quadruple digits. And since it's 40K, I would be shocked if any reprint would fail in recouping the costs and making a profit.

If this was a Death Guard release it would have had like 5 collectible gacha Nurglings.
Death guard collect nurglings like white women collect labubus fr fr

Print media isnt what it used to be, and making physical print media is fucking difficult. Theyre also, naturally, more worried about printing and shipping their new stuff over their older books.

Question. What are some "good" combat patrols as combat patrols? I mainly care about fun. Should I bother at all? What is a low cost low effort entry into 40k that isn't a curb stomp? What's a good path into a small 40k collection? Will I ever stop asking inane questions?

Context so it makes sense.

I have a friend. I'll call him Airfix. Airfix rage quit 40k years ago due to the price. Sold his massive collection.

I recently bought the Konflikt 47 starter kit. We can play with just the starter armies and we can bring out existing Bolt Action collections into the game. Been curious about spearhead with either the AoS Ultimate Starter or the Skaventide box. My logic was that Airfix and I could play it using my armies, and if he wanted his own, he would only need to buy a spearhead box. And I hear it's a great game.

But when I bring up spearhead to him, he'd always try to pivot to 40k. I told him that 10th edition is nearing it's end, and supposedly 40k is in a bad place, and GW keeps upping the price. If he wants cheap 40k, then we can play Kill Team.

He didn't listen.

Today he calls me with "good" news. He has bought 40k Ultimate Starter Box. He wants me to get into combat patrol "because it's just like spearhead, but for 40k".

Now, I know little to nothing about combat patrol, beyond that it's shit. I know boarding actions is a similar idea, but no idea how that plays.

When I try to deep dive into combat patrols, people just review them as discount boxes. I know combat patrols range from OP to trash. There are some I like, but I want to avoid completely worthless or ridiculously OP boxes if I can. Or if it's really as bad as people say, just let him waste his money and stick to my plan of either spearhead (I can get the box discounted easily) or continue going all in on K47.

When I google combat patrol rules, it just appears to be 40k rules, complete with points values and list building. So even if we stick to 40k proper, what's a good, reasonable on ramp to collecting somewhat cheaply? I know Custodies and knights are the "cheap" armies. But what are the other options that don't feel like a rip off? I don't mind third party proxies. I already have partial guard proxy armies, but the price to finish them makes me wince.

It has its own rules but with a predetermined loadouts of what's in the box, like spearhead. you can check the Warhammer community 40k downloads for the rules. You are probably getting confused with Boarding Actions.
The ultimate starter set comes with 2 combat patrols(marines and nids), maybe you could borrow the other

if you want to use your guard proxies, you could probably get away with Imperial Agents or Guard/krieg if you can source 5-6 horses and 3 gun emplacements.

if you friend insists on making you drop some cash, start by looking on amazon for a like 15% discount. Then you need to ask if you plan on expanding the army and if you even like the models that come in the box. I do not collect models I dont want. dont care how cool a faction is, how much I've already collected, how powerful it is to play, or how cheap a discount is.

if you want the cheapest entry, Imp Knights Armiger box is $80. If you want the chance to switch to killteam, Imperial agents gets you 2 teams(technically 3, but its 2 exaction squads and imp agents which will use 5 of one of the exactions squads). If you are planning to build into 40k proper, stay away from mechaincus. dont even look at them. while you are at it be incredibly wary of genestealers.

Your friend is relapsing, combat patrol will not satisfy him, if he wants a good small scale game you are right to steer him towards killteam.
