That's a real nice blue
White Scar primer (i was using it for other models in a priming session), Macragge Blue (seemed appropriate), Calgar Blue highlights (not great with cheap brush) with Tyran Blue all over.

I am an avid believer in washes being a match for the colour or im tinting it a certain way on purpose. Nuln Oil doesnt belong on everything.

Gunpla is still for queers.

Pic related for thread tax. My very old, first Dark Apostle. I remember snipping off the head and it disappearing into the warp, so he got a helmet instead. I couldnt bring myself to change it later.

TSons Suck Cock.jpg
Also my newer Word Bearer Tsons sorcerer. Ive got all but Noise Marines figured out as far as WB-ified cult legion units. Berzerkers were pretty much the same with different trim and Plague Marines take well to red.

have you considered using a dark purple wash? It would provide shadows without being black, and stand out with all the blue. You'd have to be more purposeful and careful in applying the wash though.

I use wraithbone or just black on primers depending on what I’m doing. I used to use mechanicus standard grey starting out because I saw everyone using them in videos but I never could tell if the damn models were primed or not because I thinned my paints and couldn’t tell the difference.
I'm a Wraithbone stan through and through, and black primer is quite nice for other applications, but I've been using White Scar for Emperor's Children because it makes the bright contrasts really pop on their armor.

I really rate Wraithbone, I just used White Scar since i was already using it on Shining Spears (99% white), which meant I also used it for Windriders (want a bright red).

Im also going to try Grey Seer since my Vallejo Ghost Grey will be harder to apply to a bigger/awkward model. Mid grey gives best of both worlds.

Black primer is fine (Vallejo or Citadel) but i prefer Vallejo German Panzer Grey or Mechanicus Standard grey since full black primer makes it harder to shift up and can kill vibrant colours. EC and BA are good cases for it when you want a strong purple or red, black takes it all away.

Ive always found a really nice brown to be an effective basecoat/initial color for most applications. It provides a warm depth that grey just doesnt. The alternate with cool colors would probably be a deep purple or even an inky sort of blue. Commandurr.jpg
Pic related. Blood angels assault intercessor sergeant. I started with a black basecoat, then I used a makeup sponge to apply 2thincoats cuirass leather, then berserker red and finally sanguine scarlet. I wanted to get a really dirty/grimy sort of appearance without relying on washes and I think I managed it. Same with the helmet cuirass leather, then citadel pink, then citadel yellow. I think it was fulgrim pink and averland sunset yellow.

Still working on him, Im using the swords and spears in the BA army to get NMM down. Im looking at Dante with pure fucking dread, but momma didnt raise no bitch.

Demolisher

I get what the altar is trying to do, but they spend way too much time in this specific spot. Where there should been one scene in this village, not 2, where it takes up a good portion of the book where they're just defending this random village.

Like, I get it. She's a newly promoted first Lieutenant This is her first wheel of all command assignment and she has a lot of self doubts.

I get what they were trying to do with the Dark Mechanicus member who warships vaster. It is funny that she desperately wants to capture these two people so she can experiment on them and turn them into flesh. Servitor things. And it's getting entire attack force blown up because she's just some fat autistic nerd who's into social experiments. Proclaiming that she's a scientist and she trusts the science and that's why she's a better commander than the Colonel of the chaotic force.

But seriously, I really was tired of them being in this one specific spot where they're just sitting in this village defending it. For some reason, and then they decide to break out after. Beating the chaotic forces back twice.

Also, the really stupid subplot of the guy in the tank who's secretly working for someone else is completely pointless and serves literally no literary purpose and was completely unnecessary and should have been cut out. I mean, I get it would've been much more interesting to have a new member of the tank crew who has tension, but they. Later learn to like.

Shadow Sword I also finished reading and then generally speaking I think Shadow Sword is Fly one of the best examples of Warhammer 40K tank combat.
Especially the Tank Commander being Bros with the black. Temploys who are just saying you need faith in the Emperor and are just cool. Dudes who become friends with the overall ace tank commander who also has to reconcile with his cousin who he fucked over by engaging in honor duel like 10 years ago. That's why I got kicked off his planet.

Also the member of the Commissariat just getting shot in the face because he's trying to kill the crew of the Shadow Sword. For witnessing chaos and then his. Second in command, saying that he's gonna be a dirty little snitch and then getting shot in the face.

Also, it does show off what all the different variants of the Super heavy tanks are actually used for and actually them work. In tandem with each other.

Also showing that you should never stand in front of a super heavy tank because they're just gonna run your ass over when you're blocking the road.
Also uses a good use of Titans, working together with shadow swords to takedown bigger Titans.

Half way through my Krieg kill team with mech standard grey I used karak stone as a primer and enjoyed how things turned out so much I used it on my Ork Kommando team. It’s definitely a difference in the end. Still stick to my wraithbone but it was my beginning into painting while wanting to get into things for years.

Also TMI growing up I always got military models like planes, tanks, and boats from the hobby store my parents took me to for their projects so I wasn’t inexperienced just getting back into my younger years.

I wanna get some Imperial Nights because I'm playing in a Rogue Trader campaign where I'm a night pilot, so I wanna paint one in his colors. Are they worth buying?

I've never played any Total War games. I saw the trailer for Total War 40K and thought "this looks sick." I saw the trailer of Dawn of War IV and thought "this looks sick." I started watching Total War Warhammer playthroughs and thought "this looks sick."

Can anybody tell me why people seem to be really mad and doomerish that these games are coming out? Every time I'm seeing posts about it comments are weirdly negative with low expectations. Does Total War actually suck and I'm just a fool?

40k games are always middleware, made by incompetent retards. The bigger the scope, the greater the letdown.

It’s easier to sort 40k games by the ones that aren’t dogshit, Rogue Trader, Dawn of War 1&2, SM1, Boltgun, SM2 if you aren’t invested long-term and Darktide (now).

1) Total War has been having a rough time for quite a while now, with Warhammer 3 in particular having several absolutely massive shitshows on it's own. As an example of how bad it got, it was recently discovered that several factions campaign AI was straight up broken, with them completely unable to do anything, and it wasn't until the community went ballistic over it that patches were rushed out to address it instead of it being left to fester for months until the next scheduled round of major updates.

2)40k will likely not translate well into a Total War style game IMO.

This, there’s a reason some of the best Warhammer games are mods.

Stellaris in particular, the only game I can Chaos properly.
Me and my friends were in an alliance, I asked them politely to make me Warmaster. They complied and put me in charge of all that fun shit. I got access to the Javorian Pox bombardment, told nobody. Then when a minor border war happened with a very small-fry empire, I had it brought out of storage, had every fleet set up to virus bombing and went to go enforce our war goal, which I set as the low cost “humiliation.”

Then my homies start getting “World Destroyed” notifications as I go full MacArthur and create a radioactive, uninhabitable zone full of worlds that nothing, save the most specifically built races could live.

And I killed them all, for the glory of mankind. That game is jank but when it’s working and going right, holy hell is it fun.

Aside from the many, many problems with the games...

You want blood in your game? $4 please.
Your favorite faction isn't in the game? Wait 2-4 years and pay $20.
Oh, they didn't get to your favorite faction? You can wait after 3-5 years then for the next $60 game.
Shit, your faction still wasn't in the sequel base game? That'll be $20 on top of the $60 you just paid for the sequel after your faction wasn't ever included for the last game you paid $60 for.
Nope? Still not there? Maybe after you wait another 3-4 years and buy the next sequel your fa... shit nope time to wait another 2-3 years for another $20 DLC pack.

Have you been wanting new maps, and heroes for factions you may or may not have purchased? That'll be $10 per DLC pack and there will be a half dozen of those per game, while also likely being a buggy mess, assuming you didn't want to bother will the full campaign mode experience instead of just the story missions.

edit: If these were actually major expansions, and priced appropriately it'd be fine. It takes time and resources to add more factions, units, and heroes. The problem is how piecemeal they do it in addition to the time it takes while being a mess.

The Total war franchise has been somewhat hit and miss lately. Another issue might be they're releasing it for consoles so the interface probably isn't the best either, also it's probably chopped up heavily for dlc as well.

Apart from the countless reasons other people here have listed, we are talking about CA here, remember Hyenas ?

If you take all the issues like excessive DLC, bugs, performance issues, underdeveloped mechanics and systems that constantly have to be reworked, different teams that are responsible for the main game and DLC which results in a complete loss of quality and control, financial mismanagement etc.

And now you add a new engine into the mix, console releases which means massive down scaling and other concessions (UI), probably dumbing down all things that define TW, how can anyone be optimistic about this game ?

This is funny because I'm a Paradox autist and Total War keeps reminding me of Stellaris with the end game crises and role play factions and all that.

Thanks lads. I'll be keeping a close eye on Total War 40K but so far it seems like I'd probably like it.

I've tried to get into TW when TWW 1 dropped and again when 3 hit, but I couldn't get over how every snippet of gameplay felt like watching fish in an aquarium. Maybe that's just an early game problem, or maybe that IS the appeal I dont know. It certainly looks great visually.

I'd probably say yes and yes. It's fun to watch my little rats snipe people and throwing bombs everywhere. But you also have less things to do in battle early on, as your leader/heroes aren't really online until they get some levels to spend. Total war oldheads and 40k fans can probably bond over their distaste for herohammer but it's too much fun for me to decimate multiple units as someone like skarbrand before my own army even meets theirs. I wonder how faction leaders will work in this new one. I don't need primarchs but If they release thousand sons and I don't get to make a cabal of sorcerers led by Ahriman I will not be a happy camper. That custom faction feature better be fuckin good CA.
