You bring up an interesting point with this, and I'll admit the only person I know of who was hyped for these characters, was DarkSydePhil; because he is an internet boomer who talks a lot about 80's/90's shit that his younger viewerbase probably has no idea about. But you're right, outside of DC Comics, Hannah Barbara, or Looney Toon characters; anything older than 20 years old isn't gonna be relevant. And the generation that would know who Gizmo, Spike, and whatever else is; we're at the age where we wait and see, instead of OMG DAY 1 BUY!!!
The characters being introduced excite my dad, who has no idea the game exists. I think this is the bigger issue, the people they are trying to court are completely unaware of the existence of Multiversus given the limited and online-only presence. Plus I don't believe you could sell them on this type of game in the first place. My dad only plays Rocket League at this point, if not seventh gen or older games, Smash is not the type of game that appeals to the audience they are after. They should have focused on Millennials and Zoomers.

Watching content on Multiversus, it is always some young person shouting for more CN or DC characters, maybe Walter White. It feels like LEGO Dimensions all over again, where they hit jackpot at the start, but then it slowly teeters off into the big new franchises being Knight Rider, The A Team, Goonies, Gremlins, just this pot of 80s IP that hold no value to the playerbase with promises of better content in the future. It can't sustain like this and they really needed to better connect with the audience.

This game should've just been a Punch Time XL sequel in the first place. They already had a pretty decent roster of characters, and it would've made way more sense to pair the Nickelodeon smash clone with a Cartoon Network smash clone.
This is pretty much why it is popular to begin with. The hype came from CN fans more than anything, yet AT and Steven are really the only CN IP in game. It is funny to see the hype only really go up when the possibility of the new character being Samurai Jack is rumored. They either should have just done CN Punch Time 2, or really expanded the CN IP early as Ben 10 and PPG are glaring omissions, not to mention the Teen Titans.

I’ve still enjoyed playing it, but I do think the lack of new characters this season really lost a lot of people. I still think they have a chance of recovering if they start brining in the characters they’ve been working on, but I doubt they’ll ever have the number it started out with again.

I play on ps4, I wonder what the numbers are on console.

The new character has be a requested one though. If they leave the game dead for this long only to come out with Wicked Witch or Sloth, it’s over. While I agree that the content draught pushed many away, the fact the the last characters added were uneventful 80s baby characters (Gizmo and Stripe), obvious marketing character (Black Adam), and an alright pick (Marvin) pretty much killed the game. They need to pull either Ben 10 or Walter White out of their ass at this point if they want to relaunch the title.

I’m wondering if season 3(if they get it) will just be releasing a bunch of characters. But yes, who they add will be a big part of it. They did just get Ranked fully up and running, so maybe now character requests will be their focus.

Also I really like Gizmo and do well with him, so I don’t consider him a bad slot.

Going through Multiversus content, Stripe and Gizmo are pretty frequently thrown under the bus. I think they were poorly timed. Should have waited for the Gremlins show to come out if anything, otherwise, they really needed to build up a proper roster before dropping him. Sure, the base was pretty good, but people were very excited for new characters and franchises, so dropping a less thrilling pick so early and giving it two characters in a row was a poor choice. I like playing as Stripe, but I can’t say I was excited for him or had to jump back into the game.

They really needed to space characters better if anything. Doubling up Rick & Morty and Gremlins kills the wacky multi franchise vibe when we could have gotten PPG or something.

I do sometimes wonder if character releases are held up by WB wanting to release at a certain time or something. Black Adam came out kinda close to the film.

But yeah, spacing out characters from the same franchise would do a lot of good.

I will say I do like the PS exclusive costume for Reindog, and the Valentines costumes are at least visually interesting. Characters have been slow, but they been pretty solid on costume variants, both the paid ones and the ones you can unlock for free.

WB doesn't care at all about the game. They gave ita skeleton crew and have 0 confidence.

They didn't even do any official promotion. They could have made more ruckus when Black Adam launched alongside the movie.

They could have paid streamers and YouTubers. The money is thre. The product is there. But thesuits don't care.

With games like Jump Force, Nick All-Stars, MultiVersus and especially Lego Brawls and Brawlout (the latter two are forgotten until I name dropped them here on this post), they're not as powerful as what Nintendo is doing with Smash Bros.

PC player here, It is definitely higher than the steam numbers. I have cross-play on and most of time I'm queued up with console players.

Except for 1v1s and especially ranked 1v1s, It's merciless in there. The other PC players with their level 30+ characters have me locked in combos constantly.

The lvl 30+ combo lockers are exactly why I’m glad 2v2 ranked is added, I don’t think I’ve ever actually touched 1v1 more than a couple times specially because of combo lockers. Hopefully 1x1 will have it added soon then.

They are going to close shop with a more inconsistent roster than Sony's attempt even when they already had some kind of previous experience, bravo!

Why play matches to tediously grind out missions and gold, when you can play a gacha on your phone or a Battle Royale game instead? Despite the utter predatory nature of such games they do understand how to build a proper progression system, a way to reward the player every so often to keep them engaged and playing. Comparatively, the progression system in Multiversus is dogshit, no other way to say it. These month long battle passes and holiday events give out the most meager of rewards for absurd amounts of effort for an average F2P player. There's also no real incentive to level up characters other than the tiny rewards and bragging rights.
the current generation of gamers and gaming are about pushing the button every time, i played cod mobile and in that game for early levels you always have shit to do and small boxes to tick as completed, once you get high over 50 then things start grinding to a halt in which the game expects you to play comp because you must like competitiveness, no?
i've also played warhammer 40k lost crusade and it goes by the same things, first few levels you are enticed to complete the checkboxes to hook you up, after level 7 shit starts making you wait 10 minutes, on level 20+ it's days while also trying to keep a small "hourly quest" in hopes to keep you busy if you can't fork out microtransactions to instantly complete things, allowing you to create another character in another server funningly named 1-50/51-100/etc... shows how they expect people to play once their progression starts to be greatly timegated.
if a game wants to start out as a service nowadays, they better have many loops to keep rats pushing the feed button with the usual seasonal/monthly/weekly/daily ones or else they will quit.

A lot of players play 20-30 levels then move onto the next thing.

They know that players who stick around lvl 50 will either pay or keep playing because they are invested.

Early microtransactions were a lot smarter. They'd string you longer before they'd pull the hook. They'd pull a lot gentler. Games today know that if they take their time they won't hook the big fat whales soon enough, and they will get shut down. Player retention be damned,we need that money!

MVS had the same philosophy: player retention be damned! Nickel and dime, no freebies, hook the whales asap. I think it fell victim to the games as a service/whalebait/evobait trend. It failed to understand that games like Fortnite and Rocket League are so big because they invest in retaining their playerbase. Whale hunting doesn't work on PC games.

Potential update coming the 14th. Multiversus is looking to be saved by … Pickle Rick? Yep, this game is dead. Really, four months of nothing and they are rumored to be coming back with a dead meme. Could they not have just put in a CN character? Before you ask, Pickle Rick is said to be a fully new character, not a costume.

I really just wanted to revive this thread and hope for something. I was excited by the prospect of a CN Punch Time 2, now with DC and Warner content, and while initial rumors and roster pushed that, since the hiatus, I just feel more disappointed with every leak.

Also, talks and rumors/leaks about Disney building their own competitor. The leaks seem fake, but worth mentioning as to the future of this title.

And I'm not surprised they're still doing shit with Rick & Morty even after creator Justin Roiland was blacklisted almost a couple months ago for being a child groomer and domestic abuser.

As bad as continuing R&M is after the whole debacle, I think it is worse for this game that after months of waiting it isn’t a new franchise, nor really a new character that is added, but a meme reskin of a pre-existing character. This team really needed a big hitter, and I am doubtful a second Rick will be that.

Would've been nice if WB inducted characters from Robot Chicken to be in the game. Shit, it was Adult Swim's most popular show before R&M took over.
