Shit, it was Adult Swim's most popular show before R&M took over.
So was a lot of things before Robot Chicken

Hell Adult Swim could just make their own smash clone and it would probably be more sucessful than Multiverses. Off the top of my head I can think of ATHF, Home Movies, The Brak Show, Squidbillies, Sealab2021 as shows they can take characters from.

But Robot Chicken was the most popular. It was actually the first Adult Swim show to even be nominated by an Emmy way before R&M, and it was at times the highest rated show throughout the mid-to-late-2000s. That's what I was implying.

Alright boys, this one is a doozy

They have decided to close the apparently open beta and will delist it for a whole fuckin year, anyone who paid money on this is practically being told to get fucked

Shills most affected with "egg on face" syndrome

We might bring back 2024 but no refunds for paying into & losing money
MultiVersus will be temporarily removed from digital stores beginning April 4th
Will refunds be available for previously purchased content?

This announcement does not change any current refund policies or terms offered by the storefront(s) from which Founder’s Packs or Gleamium bundles were purchased. For more information, please visit the customer support pages for PlayStation, Xbox, Steam and Epic Games. Additionally, refunds are not available as a result of the Open Beta closure. However, all progress and previously earned or purchased content will carry over when MultiVersus returns in early 2024.

Well, Multiversus isn't being shut down and they will likely need that money to further develop the game so, refunds aren't really an option. I'm just going to play the waiting game and see if they'll actually wow us with the official release.

true but, most likely overall problem is netcode
That's even compared to something like Smash Ultimate. Remember, neither MultiVersus, Jump Force nor Nick All-Stars could ever have the same service as with Nintendo.

Yeah, I'm going to hold on to a shred of hope that they might actually turn this game around come next year. It's takes quite a lot of balls to even say "we fucked up and want to fix it", so I feel like "wait and see" is the fair option here. Can't say I didn't see it coming though, after how they treated the end of season 1 and largely went silent after 2, you could just feel it in your bones.

It is nifty that it will still be playable for local matches while it's offline though, at least it's something. It's at least still playable as that "sorta Smash, but different" kind of party game.

I’m also going to be optimistic about this. People on Twitter are screaming about refunds, but the clearly stated that anything you spent money on will still be there after the game relaunches. It’s not like it’ll reset you to zero when it comes back.

I’ve been playing every day and still find matches easily, so I can just use the downtime to actively practice 1v1.

EDIT: the game is being pulled on April 4th, but online service won’t end until June 25th.

I highly doubt that Warner Bros. is gonna give out refunds as with most big name game companies out there (though they're technically a media based company as they're best known for movie and television, but their game division counts so idfk just bare with me here). That said, when it does go back live early next year, it's not like they're going to reset the game altogether, or maybe I could be wrong. Regardless, the player count for MultiVersus has flatlined and it's hard to tell whether or not it may stay relevant for early next year.

There’s no reset, yeah. Everything that you unlocked up to this point will still be there when it comes back.

It’s definitely risky to take it down for so long, but you could argue it shows their commitment rather than leaving it up the entire time with no updates and just have people spend money on it in the meantime.

>game will literally being pulled next week and will disappear for 6+ months with no signs of coming back

This is so fucking hilariously bad that i genuinely think it's worse than killing the game completely right now. I dont know why they'll keep the online until june if there is no reason to play a literally dead and doomed game. Of course this is assuming it will come back and not get silently cancelled by the end of 2024.

>but it will come back and will have the greatest launch ever and

Bro this game ALREADY had the best launch ever. It had the highest evo money ever, it had cross platform, it had a steam peak of +150k (brawlhalla never had more than 40k), etc. They already had their best shot.

AT LEAST I didnt spend my money on this, i feel genuinely bad for the suckers who did but they deserve to get mocked and memed to learn better.

1679959655712.png(dont forget the multiple battle passes and direct buy only skins)

All i wanted was some free smashbros like game to bring back the brawl nostalgia so what do i have let? Brawlhalla is floaty as fuck, flash party is pay to win mobile cringe and rushdown revolt was always dead.

Was the game ever stated clearly as being in beta? Sounds like weasel words to me. Aside from that, I noped out the moment it required a wb account because fuck you, but game going so hard on 2v2 always seemed like a bad idea to me and no items meant it lacked one of the big parts of the appeal of smash (also, the amount of item ideas just from ACME products).

As for the game making a comeback, still remains to be seen if it's not quietly killed 3 months after shutting down and even if it doesn't no way in fucking hell it's getting the reception it got last time. So at minimum they better temper expectations.

Should look into steamdb archives of the store page because I think they used to mention it's in beta there, since that's usually the angle people use for any class action lawsuits
Couldn't find anything like on Steamdb (mostly because I wouldn't know where I could find that kind of information), but the patch notes mention it being an open beta.

Speaking of which, here are some of the recent reviews:

Some of them are acting like they're just now calling it an "open beta" as if they haven't made that part clear since the game was made available for the general public. I can understand some of them feeling scammed (even though that's partially on them for buying the $100 Founder Pack instead of waiting like the rest of us), but this is a F2P game and they had to make some money off of the release somehow.

Plus when things pick up where they left off in its relaunch of next year, it won't be as different.

When have betas ever ask the player to BUY stuff? I'm glad it's not a complete shutdown, but will people remember to come back to it?

It's definitely more that people stopped being interested in it and forgot it was a beta in the first place, which begs the question if people will care when it comes back but that's on WB to deal with
