Also there's some glaring issues with character balance that become obvious once you play for a while:
- Some hitboxes are way too generous, making some characters way too safe to play
- Some attacks have really low delay, making them safe openers, easy to break out of combos and easy to counter attacks
- Some characters have easily exploitable weaknesses, while others well rounded

The game seems to struggle between 1v1 balance, where well rounded characters make sense, and MOBA balance, where having obvious weaknesses make sense because they are meant to be compensated by team mates. I hope these all get fixed before release.

It’s not meant to be 1v1. The option is there, but the game is built to be 2v2 from the beginning.

It’s never going to be balanced for 1v1 because that’s not the point of the game.

Which makes the game not fun to play, because:
- 1v1: plagued by 'top tier' picks and the match is decided before the perks are selected
- 2v2: ruined by terrible matchmaking

I disagree, but understand why people who only want 1v1 aren’t going to enjoy it as much.

1v1 is tolerable if you enjoy one of the top tier characters.

2v2 is unsalvageable unless you play with a friend. The matchmaking is atrocious and lack of communication makes it FFA, except you lose because your teammate doesn't know how to use its recovery.

I don’t know what to tell you, man. I’m not having those issues with random 2v2. I can count the number of times I’ve had a really bad teammate on one hand.

Didn't this game just recently come out? How the fuck is it possible for a community to get fucked so quickly?

The "character x needs a nerf" complaints I can believe because that's ANY competitive game. You have those kinds of complaints even for low-tier characters (you know, the ones that are considered bad).

I blame this on e-sporsts push turning even the most normie casuals into vocal spergs. The game is literally on 0.1v and only released on open beta last week but Warner wants to push it on e-sports so hard it will be on EVO with the largest prize pool ANY evo game ever had.

It's also a crossover game so autists will start slapfights over characters.

Wether the game will be balanced for 1v1 i dont know, but it should be clear when they make ranked. If ranked is only 2v2 then its obviously going to be balanced towards that and solo que might be misable.

Of all game design balance choices, the only ones i find notable enough to actively hurt the game in ALL modes would be:

1-Directional Influence (DI) is too strong for how easy it is AND you can control dodge during knockback. Now that it's been a week, i'm getting matched against better players and its not common to see everyone going past 150%, especially on large maps like Steven's. It also looks janky as hell, when you up smash someone and they literally bounce back down mid travel.

2-Infinite wall grab on every map. This means every single character can recover with just one double jump, and its not easy to edge guard. Best you can do is spike/dunk them but 95% of the cast have some sort of shoryuken move or can simply bait and dodge through.

3-Dodging is waaaay too spammy and safe. You cant edge guard cause they're gonna double air dodge and double ground doge. Many characters are impossibly to whiff punish because you can just throw a random attack and back dash. If someone wants to stall as much as possible (common in free for all), they can simply mash dodge and burn dozens of seconds. I dont think i ever seen anyone run out of dodge bar but even if they did, the dodge is still fast mobility tool.

4-You respawn with ZERO invincibility which is lame at best and awful at worst. Its so bad there's already a meta developing around it, like people timing projectiles and Arya's stun around respaws, which might take skill sure but isnt fun.

5-There is no priority, "clank" or trade system like in smash so two hitboxes collide, only 1 ever wins and it can be janky as hell. This is especially bad in mirror matches where it feels like the game will randomly decide who got hit. Projectiles also end up being very strong since you cant defend NOR punch them, so if you dont have a reflect, you cant do shit against Lebron's ball or Velma's homing screams.

I feel like these issues will become more obvious when watching pro players use them at EVO but hopefully they learn from it. I know its unlikely but i hope we get at least 1 more button for the sake of depth, like grabs or blocks or something new. Slap City has a "clutch" button you hold to modify certain skills and it's fun to use.

I’m pretty sure the dodge spam is theirs since there’s no guarding or set grabs. You’re meant to constantly keep moving.

I get why it's there, i'm saying it's not good. Brawlhalla is often criticized as extremely floaty and dodge spammy and even that game has a dodge cooldown. Yeah, the bar is there but isnt there enough, everyone is super safe and mobile. Multiversus main issue in my opinion are:

1-Dodging a hit means that entire hitbox duration registers as "dodged" so you cant punish dodge spamming with lingering attacks (which there are none?), only with good multi hitting moves like shaggy air run.

2-This game combo system is designed and balanced around dodge cancels (ex: shaggy shoryuken -> N dodge -> shoryuken) but that also makes most attacks near impossible to truly punish. This would be fine if it only pro players could do it but anyone can mash a dodge button.

Of course, if that's the hill they want to build on, then i'll have to live with it. Evo will start soon so we'll see how things work out on a hyper competitive enviroment and if it makes for a fun game to watch or not.

Also a very interesting thing I noticed is that getting hit mid-air does not restore any air specials or dodges.

This makes knocking someone up very reliable. Characters like Bugs, Harley and Superman can juggle you out of the stage because of their super safe vertical attacks and you being unable to retaliate in any unpredictable way.

It also makes your trajectory linear, allowing characters defenslessly fall off of stage at low percentage if they run out of airs. I bet this will be abused in competitive play cause it's very exploitable.

EDIT: I missed this one. This was the death of HotS and will be the doom of this one. Game is way too fresh/unpolished to make it into EVO. It's nowhere near ready yet and will need a couple of good years before the meta settles and the game becomes genuinely interesting.

So far the characters I've put time into are Harley, Batman, Reindog, Wonder Woman and Tom & Jerry and recently I have noticed an annoying trend where melees do nothing but run and only play a punish game with only the safest 2 or 3 moves on aggressive approach. When I was learning Wonder Woman this was beyond frustrating because of her lack of options, and I had my only time out EVER because I got fed up with a stupid Finn doing it and he was so reliant on it I eventually just started standing still and waiting for him and he lost the game by a more damage time out rather then actually facing me.

Well, Tom & Jerry is the character I am learning now and I was facing an Arya with this dumb tactic, doing nothing but trying to punish into that 2 stage jump attack with a follow up to ring out the top even at low damage. My first stock I lost to this getting annoyed but then I remembered... I'm not Wonder Woman, I have options besides full melee aggression. With the tables turned I relished as she couldn't do crap when I did nothing but defense and gave the rude Tom shrugging spam because fuck them. It's against my natural instinct to not be moving in for aggression when possible, so I hope this stops being so frequent unless I am playing a ranged-option character.

Of all game design balance choices, the only ones i find notable enough to actively hurt the game in ALL modes would be:

This may be a very personal issue, but I have killed myself way too many times off the top blast zone because I am used to it being very hard to do so in Smash Bros where you have leniancy when moving there yourself when not launched.

Next time, go for the ol' teabag and dash dance for the extra disrespect.

You're not alone. That's happened to me more times than I'd like to admit.

Code is Evo2022

I already hate the community. It's the same problems that plagued LoL. They bitch and moan at every little thing.

I hope the devs don't give in and nerf the FotM character every week Reddit complains. It will ruin the game.
These platform fighter players(really just modern fg players in general) would really benefit from getting a stiff upper lip towards top tiers and just labbing out the damn matchup. Especially in these cases where the top tiers arent exactly broken, but are just really good characters. Third strike players have been putting up with Chun-li's bullshit for 23 years with no balance patch in sight, and the best players know how to play around her and eke out a nearly 50 percent win rate against her. Shit like that builds character oldmanyellsatclouds.jpeg

Stuff to expect for season 1.

Evo is currently in Top 8.

I decided to try this game and I can say for certain, this is the funniest game I have ever played. Not "fun" mind you, funniest. Every time I play this game I laugh at some many things, the shitty roll back netcode, the community, the players, etc. This game is addictively funny, because of how the actual problems of the game seem to go over the casual audiences heads.

To speak on the issues the game has, it is 100% the netcode, despite it being rollback it is the worst netcode I have played in a long time, I have suffered some form of rollback fuckery, the netcode actual does affect how you see the hit boxes.
Here is a example.

In offline Finn has a normal downwards hitbox, online at three - two bars you get this. What happened is on his side he probably did get spiked under Finn but on my side it looks like this, so this can be down the other way around. (Explaining why you sometimes get sucked by finn's backpack on your screen) While tiliting, to me this is so fucking hilarious when I do it to others. Like fuck me, I would like to go into detail about how this game NEEDS proper feedback to actually be a competitive worthy smash clone and all the issues it has but I've played mk11 and saw how casual feedback can fuck up a game. So for now I will say the Netcode needs to be fucking improved. If any of you had doubts about the greatness of the netcode you are not wrong, the netcode is BAD, and I do NOT want to see anyone say they're good at this game unless they play offline against people because playing online is actual untrustworthy.

It does tilt me somewhat that disabling crossplay does fuck all in matchmaking.

You realize the netcode means nothing if you’re playing on shitty internet or WiFi, right?

It does somewhat, in strive I can atleast play a brazillian with a decent connection but then again i'm on PC so I'm fighting PC players, console players on the other hand take in your point, so it just means that the fucking crossplay disable features needs to work to avoid the absolute connections of console.
