webp

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
are all images on the site going to be webp going forward or did he add support for it?
You underestimate the power the Dark Lord has unleashed. Webp is an image format used by the Alphabet Corporation. It is designed to circumvent file sharing restrictions to create a lossless archive of a moment in time. So when google does an Image search any file that is recovered is rendered in Webp for the viewer. But this is a cached image that is not compatible with any forum software and file sharing service.

To my frustration, doing image searches on google for memes and wat not often results in WebP files created by Googles crawlers. But these could not be posted anywhere. Not to 4chan, and not to the Kiwifarms. It required going to the linked webpage the WebP was generated from. But that was hit and miss, especially for older shit. Some of the web pages no longer existed. Others were behind paywalls, and still more behind a layer of log in requirements and advertisement.

Kiwifarms can now function as an image sharing service better then 4chan because it can support Webp Image Cache files. Also google released WebP as open source in their "don't be evil phase". So its an open source format that they don't own strictly speaking, even though its the backbone of their image search function.

You hate on a new and improved innovation because shitty mega-corporations like Microsoft can't be bothered to support it even after over 10 years.
>allowing an image to create a buffer overflow and write into memory outside the image viewer
>innovation
Umm, yeah.

Lmao no wut how did you get that?

They just won't be automatically broken when someone posts them.
WebP is like Windows Media File Format (wma/wmv). Proprietary by design, not as good as it was promised to be, and pretty much everywhere.
It's crap and it isn't everywhere because it's broken most places I care to go to, but I'm okay with it not being broken here.

Just remember, install some "Save as Type" extension instead. It sucks to have to have a bunch of image/animation converters but whatever.

Fucking finally, more and more shit i find with pic searches is webp and doing the "open in paint, save as .jpg/.png" thing so i can post it on here has cost me precious seconds of my life already.
Something that should have taken 2 minutes ended up taking 20. It's so horrible.
It would have been easier to just record the fucking thing in VLC with OBS, that's how retarded it was.
I still like webm just for the tiny file size but i'm feeling this hard, the last sentence crossed my thoughts more than a few times already when struggling to convert stuff.

Great, now I dont have to even pay attention to the things I've saved, let's look for the latest webp I got...

I believe this was for a "What should I buy on Temu" thread. Why did I not immediately delete this?

You will never be a real image format
Webp will never be a real image format. It has bad compression, it has noticeable distortion, it has no software support. It's a homosexual image format twisted by Google and soydevs into a crude mockery of pngs perfection.

All the “validation” it gets is two-faced and half-hearted. In the art and graphic design circles, people mock it. Its developers are disgusted and ashamed of it, secretly working on a better implementation, users of other image formats, laugh at its ghoulish smeared appearance.

Internet users are utterly repulsed by it. Millions of years of eye evolution have allowed men to sniff out inferior image formats with incredible efficiency. Even images that “pass” after being compressed look uncanny and unnatural to a man. Its flawed fade between two different colors is a dead giveaway. And even if it manage to get a drunk web developer to implement it, they'll slowly realize the saved server space, was never worth it.

It will never be accepted. Google developers put on a fake smile every single morning and tell you it’s going to be ok, but deep inside they feel the depression creeping up like a weed, ready to crush their creation under the unbearable weight.

Eventually it’ll be too much to bear - you’ll silently come back to using white people image formats. Your users will find you, heartbroken but relieved that they no longer have to live with the unbearable shame and disappointment of converting their images into webp. They’ll look at all the webps in past threads, and every passerby for the rest of eternity will know a webp was used there. Your body will eventually decay, domain expire and website go back to the dust, and all that will remain of your legacy is images that were unmistakably, at one point in time, converted to webp.

This is your fate. This is what you chose. There is no turning back.
