Forgive me for the potentially silly question but I don’t quite get the rationale behind this. Unless you’re not planning to operate the site for much longer or you are planning to migrate it.

Do you have any plans to migrate to a different platform? There’s a risk that any other software provider will pull the plug on you the same way, due to mean emails, so it’s potentially futile.

So, customising the current instance with any improvements is time well spent? Since you’re stuck with it indefinitely? Any improvements you make is for the sole benefit of your site. You’re not helping Xenforo with it. So the fact that they were asshats to you shouldn’t stop you wanting to improve the KF instance 🤔
I am going to build my own.

THANK YOU. WebP is the ultimate web format. Providing the best balance between support, ease of use, versatility, and performance. It beats PNG in lossless compression, JPEG in lossy compression, and GIF in animated files. It even beats Avif in absolute lowest file size.

WebP sucks. The effort would've been better spent on SVG support.
Care to elaborate?
  1. For a supposedly modern format, it's still limited to muh 24-bit colour depth. Also it has limits regarding picture size.
  2. It can contain either lossy or lossless encoded picture data, without any external indication (file extension stays the same).
  3. Unlike PNG, GIF and JPEG, which are widely supported since the 90s, only recent or updated software is going to display it. Does the WWW need another picture format with limited compatibility? The answer is no!
  4. It's basically Google's ego booster, a monument to their effective ownership of the WWW. It shows that whatever they fart out, is going to be implemented just because it came from mighty Google.

Then I, and other retards, could bother people by posting threads of alternate history/completely fictional flags, maps, etc. based on WikiMedia Commons resources! (I promise I haven't actually made one in years, ok?)

I'm kidding, but SVG is a pretty cool format though.
