Week of the TOR - No theme, besides we are all connecting through TOR for a week.

First time really using Tor so far, I'm using different parts of the website rather than the DSP dub section already. I kinda like the idea of gatekeeping retards out, like that idiot who "threatened" Keffels.

Do you think this will lead to a tighter community? I used to partake in really small forums nearly 20 years ago and they were much more fun than massive ones.

I hope this is somehow cheaper for Josh to handle too.

Btw does the Farms use Java? I know it will for YT links and the link but will it be functional if I turn it off?

I suddenly remember one reason I didn't like tor: absent mindedly clicking a link to clearnet sites and being greeted with huffily worded "your IP is banned" pages that look like they're from 1995. :story:

Bitching aside, I dunno if Tor got better over the years or what happened because compared to last time I used Tor years ago where it was flipping a coin to figure out if the page would load or not, at least here I'm only seeing occasional 2-5 minute blips of network errors punctuating relatively smooth if slow but consistent loading otherwise which is pretty decent.

Where do they claim it's hard to do (maybe they do, it just sounds unlikely to me).
One of the first search results that comes up when looking for "is it possible to ddos a tor site" or similar is this article from The TOR Project. Though now I've re-read it, it seems like it's saying it difficult to launch a DDoS attack from TOR.

Obviously the search engine I used isn't smart enough to realise that I want to use TOR to get away from DDoSing, not to start an attack myself (and my brain was probably too addled at the time to comprehend the article in question.

Why not normal methods? The web is run by glass-jawed bitch-ass niggers. Why this method? The CIA glowniggers needed a replacement for short-wave numbers stations as a deniable method for communicating with secret agents in other countries. The US Naval Research lab came up with a way of using the public internet plus multiple layers of encryption to do this (onion routing). In order to get enough traffic to disguise what they're doing they need to make it possible for everyone (autistic enough) to use it. Apparently they made it a little too well (according to this GCHQ presentation leaked by Edward Snowden anyway). The FBI also use it for entrapment from time to time.
There are still Numbers Stations on the air even now. Poland, Cuba, Russia, Vietnam, China, Teiwan, and North and South Korea still use them.

For extra winning, use Brave if you can. The CEO is Brendan Eich, who was cancelled as CEO of mozilla for donating to anti lgbt marriage proposition in california years ago. It seems the alphabet squad forgot about this little tid bit of information.

So how safe is to use a Tor proxy like .pet?

I 'm using Brave right now.
I wouldn't take that risk, at least when logging in. Nearly all hidden services don't use https, including this one (it's basically unnecessary due to Tor's encryption). Therefore onion proxies can see everything you do through them (including stealing your username and password!). Your activity through the proxy is also associated with your ip. I wouldn't be surprised if all of them were set up as honeypots or to farm creds.

A couple times of "New tor circuit for this site" / Ctrl-Shift-L fixes that for me most of the time, at least on sites that don't actively block tor exit nodes. I feel like this issue has gotten worse recently though.

Yeah, Tor has gotten a lot speedier over the years. I'm not sure whether it's due to my internet getting better or something else.

this tor stuff is interesting i never even heard of it before now and i gotta say its pretty cool. i guess its safe to say we will all live to sneed another day.

Welcome to the resistance bunker gentlemen as you can see our supplies are limited, we're cut off from the front lines, and direct lines of communication have been cut...all but this last one. My advice? Hunker down, smoke em if ya got em and try and ride out the storm. It's gonna be a long winter.
