Weight loss support thread

This question has been posted maybe 50 times in this thread, but what's a good low-cost diet plan? I have tons of vegetables (more specifically onions and potatoes) and rice, Minute Rice and regular rice. Do I just eat vegetables and rice (along with some meat thrown in every now and then)?

If your goal is just weightloss, I'd forget about the rice all together. I know a lot of purists will disagree, but most of the time, it's just a calorie-dense filler. Just pack meat and veggies. The best investment you can ever make is a food scale and a microwave steamer. Weigh everything and steam your veggies.

I really need to do this. I need to just break up with soda officially. It's not like I drink a lot of it, maybe half a can's worth on average, but cutting it out entirely would probably help...

This week I've been trying to get back on track, but I've caught myself eating junk again because I'm stressed out of my mind right now and I tend to just reach for comfort food when things get tough for me. I'm hoping that when I find another job I can get a more consistent eating schedule (instead of praying I have more than 30 seconds to choke down a small snack once in a while) and I won't be trying to soothe my anxiety with pizza and chocolate.
Same goes for me, now I'm trying to stick to having at least one can or bottle a week. My mom actually says that it's mostly cutting out both the candy-and-soda diet that'll slim you down at a quicker pace.

Now that the weather's getting a bit nicer, I'm also trying to get out of the house and take walks around the neighborhood in my free time. It helps in the first place that my part-time job involves a lot of walking around (I'm a salesgirl working in a major department store), and I've been trying to do some at-home exercises courtesy of YouTube and my mom's exercise ball she lets me borrow. One step at a time, Kiwis!

So I went out to run errands today, and on my way home I decided to go through my "shit I'm too fat to wear" box again.

That box used to be spilling-over full, and now it has less than 20 items in it, some of which I'm very close to being able to wear. I'd actually be able to fit into a few more of them if my tits weren't so big, but I can't do anything about that... I found a few things to add into my rotation, some I was never able to wear before, which is nice. And I started a scrap pile of shirts that are way too big (or that I'll never be small enough for) but I don't want to get rid of, so I can alter them when I'm closer to my goal weight, or use them to make other things.

It's the best motivation. I'm fitting back into stuff I haven't worn since my senior year of high school. I have such a long way to go, but this is the first time I've made real, measurable progress in losing weight and I'm nowhere near giving up now.

I love coca cola but I only allow myself to have a glass when I go out to eat with family.
Right now my addiction is crystal ligut and I also make my own spa water with fruits and spices.

got weighed at the doctors today (I refuse to buy a scale because I know I'll only end up obsessing over numbers) and turns out i've only been gaining weight and I'm so confused

I'm praying it's only from gaining muscle but i dunno tbh

it's like no matter what I do to lose weight it just doesn't work and the pounds just keep piling on. the only time I actually succeeded in losing weight was when I was basically starving myself but I know that's not healthy or sustainable so I'm not sure what to do at this point

Good job to everyone in this thread, every little accomplishment is huge and you should be proud and make a big deal out of it. Don't let setbacks get you down either, just stay motivated and determined.

Every little step counts!

Usually the reason it is so hard to keep excess weight off, is because the adipose tissue your body created does not go away, so it can reform faster for any reason. Its actually an incredible survival asset. The problem is whatever weight you are at, it can become harder to stay at a leaner weight if your body is used to normally functioning with a certain amount of adipose. So everything you eat can build back faster.

On the bright side though, you shouldn't get too disheartened because that can be from a multitude of things, such as gaining muscle, water weight, depending on if your weighing yourself before or after workouts, etc. Just keep at it, If your calorie in is less than calorie out you will lose weight! Keep up the good fight though!

Also keep weighing yourself limited to every two weeks if you can, weight is in constant flux, you never know what is causing a change, or if it is just the time your weighing yourself etc.

Normally, you put on fat by the fat cells simply storing more fat. However, when they expand to a certain size, they divide, creating more fat cells. When you lose weight after this, the cells store less fat, but you still have more of them.

Exactly they are never gone, Its just people tend to think of that as a bad thing. Its in fact very good though!

You just obviously don't need all of their Fat Vacuoles storing Lipids

Don't neglect your weight training, but don't be too concerned with pushing the heaviest amount of weight. Since you're eating at a deficit, you're not going to be making huge leaps in those terms. Wait until you're in a bulking phase to really focus on strength.

I'm not saying it's impossible to gain muscle/strength on a cut, but the factors aren't ideal. Chances are if you're just starting out, the noob gains will emerge either way.

Good luck, all!

Weighed and measured myself today.
According to the scale, I've put on 2kg.
However, according to my measurements, I've lost a centimeter pretty much everywhere, and I've lost a full 4cm at my navel.
That's pretty much what's going on with me too... it's reassuring to know I'm not the only one.

(I'm getting smaller everywhere but my middle.. got chicken legs now lol)

I've got huuuuge legs. I see obese people with smaller legs than me.
I have decent muscle definition, though.
I figure that losing size has to be a good thing no matter what the scale says.

Yeah, size is definitely a better indicator than weight. I've got short stumpy limbs (and a short stumpy build in general) not to mention bad genes so I'll probably always look bigger than most people... *sigh*

But if you get leaner you'll be a better-looking short, stumpy person. :P
Not to mention the health benefits of having a healthy amount of body fat, or how much better it feels.

@Hi I Am From Page 6 @A Skeleton I've always heard that you'll lose inches before you lose pounds. Don't get discouraged!

I hadn't even thought to measure myself... I just know a lot of the clothes I've bought in the last couple of years don't fit at all anymore. For example, right now I'm wearing a T-shirt that I've had for maybe four or five months, and when I got it, it just barely fit me. Now it's not even tight across my chest. It's still so weird to me when people comment on how much weight I've lost, because I don't really see it, even though I know it's happening. I guess it's because I've been so fat for so long, it'll be a while before I see myself as anything but fat.

Lately I've noticed that I'm much more... I guess you could say sensitive... to how much sugar and salt my food contains. I've cut out so much of both that any time I eat or drink something that has more than I'm used to, it tastes awful. I used to use tons of really sweet, flavored creamer in my coffee, now I just use half-and-half and a little raw sugar. I don't put salt on anything, unless the dish I'm making calls for it. Stuff like that. My food would probably be horribly bland to most people, but I honestly prefer it, and I feel a lot better since changing my diet, so. Whatever, right?

I'm the same. I eat next to no heavily processed, pre-packaged food now, and every time I do, I can taste the tonne of salt and sugar that gets thrown in it.

Oh, I've lost 30kg so far. I'm in the homeward stretch, which is proving to be as infuriating as everyone says.

I've been trying to lose weight for a while and was stuck around a certain weight for months so I cut out hot chocolate (2+ thermos sized cups a day before) and crisps (1 packet a day before) and I've been dropping 3kg every couple of days! I excersise for half an hour on an excersise bike every day and am planning to start walking my dog more often (another family member takes care of that most of the time). Never have I felt better about myself! I have managed to quit eating as much sugar and consume it in moderation with the phrase "Party food should be left for parties". Telling myself that really helped!

As a side note, does anyone here know if homemade burgers (mince and onion is how I make mine) are any healthier than fast food (I.e. McDonalds burgers)?
