Weight loss support thread

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
It's hard, fellow fatties. I'm in the gym, doing the work. My relationship with food is still fucked though. That's the one barrier I can't break and makes this an almost futile effort. Any tips on overcoming food addiction?
Perhaps abstaining from certain foods via fasting might help? I'm fat as well, but that has helped me a little bit.

Nigger, when the fuck did I say anything about anorexia?
I brought up anorexics thyroid suffer after starvation to illustrate my point prolonged calorie deficits harm metabolism.
You're saying that metabolic adaptation to prolonged deficit is "stuff that anyone who's done any research would know". I agree 100℅, which is why I'm so confused by how hostile you are to that being said, and claims to have seen no proof of it. You say that you're "not arguing" the thyroid part, which just shows how little you actually understand this. The thyroid is the global governor of basal metabolism. The thyroid part is the foundational cornerstone of what he's saying, although factors like reduced production of catecholamines and sex hormones, and increased mitochondrial efficiency are factors as well.
Idk he/she has been hostile to me/my strategies ever since I encountered them in this thread after mentioning the red light therapy helping me. At this point it feels like arguing with a tranny telling them they aren't really a woman trapped in a man's body. Some people are blind because they can't/don't want to open their eyes.

I stopped weighing myself towards the very end of the semester, but I’m pretty sure I was in the low 140s on the day I graduated. Not quite my original goal I posted about earlier this year but very close, I’m proud of all the effort I had made. Just weighed myself today and I am 141.3! I signed up for a new gym membership last month since I no longer have access to my University’s gym- I’ve been going and increasing my deadlift, squat and bench. I can squat 50 pounds + the barbell now, so 95 pounds total :smug:

Really excited to get down into 135 pound range, but I’m going to keep doing it the right way; moderate calorie deficit, eating enough, cardio + resistance training. Will check back in with you niggers when I see a 3 in the tens place finally.

I did some reading on this and there is a controversial theory called "Reverse Dieting" where it's thought that upping calories can jump start your metabolism temporarily, which leads to rapid weight loss. Not everyone agrees on this though and it's mostly anecdotal reports of people experiencing the same thing, upping their calories and losing weight. What I've gathered is that even if this theory is true, it only works under certain conditions (Eating at a deficit and plateauing in weight for a while) and it will not last, after a while you will go back to gaining weight.

(It also seems to be a "thing" in eating disorder forums, they create diets that have a long window of strict calorie restriction and then a few days of a calorie surplus to break plateaus. )

Whatever the cause, I know can't continue to eat garbage and not exercise. I need to get my shit together and get back on track.
Stick to the basics. Not saying you or anyone else here is doing it, but there are struggling people who will attempt to find a loophole or a shortcut to the difficult journey that is weight loss. Caloric deficits are pure, proven physics. Stick to it. No need to gamble on anecdotal or gimmicky alternatives. Maybe they work in certain cases under certain circumstances for some people like some witchcraft ritual but it's best in general to stick with what works.

Today, I wanted to start over with exercising and eating 1,500 calories or less but, I'm still feeling bleh. I don't know what's wrong with me.

In my original post, I wasn't even trying to lose weight, I just felt down and stopped eating right and exercising, the weight loss was a surprise. I definitely don't think this is something anyone should intentionally do to lose weight, at least not long term, since what I read even states "reverse dieting" is a very short term thing and only works under certain circumstances.

The only thing I would say here is that I would generally advise against drinking calories if your goal is weight loss. Though if you are going to drink milk regardless I would recommend whole.

Also regarding Cholesterol.
There are LDL and HDL lipoproteins. Both transport cholesterol through the bloodstream, but they play opposite roles. You need both of them, but in the modern 21st century diet it's easy to get too little of the latter and too much of the former. So generally people will call HDL "good cholesterol", and it's why the narrative of things like egg cholesterol have changed in recent years.
HDL removes excess cholesterol from the bloodstream and carries it to the liver for disposal. LDL carries cholesterol throughout the body. As a result it can create plaque deposits and thus heart disease. Basically the HDL to LDL level correlates with
Ranking best HDL to LDL ratio foods: fish, olive oil, avocados, nuts, eggs > red meats, full-fat dairy products (e.g. whole milk) > fried foods and processed snacks high in trans fat
You could also think of it like unsaturated fat = good, saturated fat = depends, trans fat = bad

That said there are other nutritional benefits of foods in that second tier, so I would not necessarily say they are worse for you to eat depending on your goals; this just only looks at it in the context of cholesterol.
Agree with all this, still worry abput people not getting enough calcium or saturated fats because they think all saturated fats are bad when those are the ones that feed our brains the most. Sat fats (non fried) from animal products support your cognitive function.

There's a reason why vegans are all varying degrees of unstable, are psychotic, and have no issue keeping pictures of slaughtered animals stored so they can shove them in your face and call you devil incarnate whenever they can. They starve their brains from the fat that makes them work properly.

Down to 90 now, but since I interspersed 4 days of eating at maintenance the actual fat loss should be around 7kg by now.

Lifts are still the same but that will change, maybe not due to muscle loss but simply due to lower energy levels during dieting.
Ooof, judging from my posts here my weightloss has slowed to a crawl, only lost 2kg in the last 3.5 weeks, so down to 88 now.

Lifts are fine though but I will be a bit stricter from now on.

It's my second week on 10 mg tirzepatide and I feel like I did when I first started at 2.5 mg. I have zero appetite and horrific headaches. It was my birthday this week but I don't want to go out to eat any sort of special meal. I think next week I'll adjust my dose down to 7.5 mg and see if the headaches subside. Not eating at all is not good for anything.

That said, I have lost about 25 lbs in five months at a leisurely rate of just over 1 lb/week. So I'm pleased with that. My doctor is very pleased and I hope my next bloodwork reflects some improvement.

I highly recommend speaking to your doctor about taking Zepbound or tirzepatide if you need to lose some tens of pounds or have other health concerns that would be improved by weight loss. The past several years were a struggle with double knee replacement and too much recreational eating which made me feel hopeless about losing weight. Now I'm so chuffed and feel motivated to be active (as soon as I don't feel so bilious)...

Hey fellow Kiwi's. I am trying to loose a bit of weight. I already cut out sweets for some weeks now (mostly replaced with fruits like Apples or strawberries) but I am still looking for a replacment for the biggest problem: soft drinks. I love to drink at least half a bottle in the evening. Any tips with what to replace it with? And no I am not looking for the "Try Diet coke" or things like that because imho that is not a good replacement.

What about sparkling flavored water?

If you are into a bit of a project, you could also brew your own kombucha! It's fizzy, it's delicious, it's whatever flavor you make it. I don't think it does anything special, but boy it's tasty. Takes about 10-14 days to make a batch in first and second fermentations, and each 'batch' is pretty arbitrary in size. You need tea, sugar, fruit juice/more sugar. The yeast and bacteria will eat a whole lot of the sugar for you and turn it into tasty sour flavors instead of booze. As you ferment longer, more sugar goes, and you can taste-test throughout the process, sourness will tell you, though obviously you may not wish to drink straight vinegar for reasons of taste. It'll be at most half the calories of a soft drink if you prepare it with a moderate amount of juice during the secondary fermentation. This is a larger scale project though--enough for 10-12 oz a day would be a pretty large continuous series of fermentations, lots of bottles for the secondary fermentation and storage and large jars for the first stage fermentation.

Still, if you're project-minded, you can basically make your own lower-calorie delicious healthy soft drink starting whenever your shit from Amazon arrives.

Yeah that's where I am at too. Just thinking what might be the best option. I am thinking of taking sparkling water and add a few drops of fruit juice or something. I also checked this syrups for Soda strem and funny enough those have less calories then pure soft Drinks (Color me suprised). I Guess I have to taste test through alternatives

SodaStreams rule. la croix, waterloo, pellegrino, by comparison, feel like the most evil scam in the world
those little mio syrup thingies, you get the fragrance, you get the satisfaction of knowing you're better than sweet-drinking fatsos, you learn to taste properly and to smell things

Any recommendations? I used SodaStream before in the past but used classic Cola or cola mix syrups.

We have a soda stream to which my husband attached a 20 lb cylinder of CO2. I usually drink 2 liters of fizzy water mixed with tart cherry juice concentrate and he drinks 4-5+ liters of plain fizzy water per day. He built a cabinet to hold the cylinder and the system works great. We need to change it only a couple of times a year and our cost per liter over time is something less than a dime, including several soda streams and the early, small proprietary CO2 cylinders. We had been buying seltzer or sparkling water in liter bottles for around $1/liter and creating mounds of empty bottles. Now we have much less waste and practically unlimited fizzy water.

Good times.

Stopped red light and worrying about calories for a week due to birthday activities. First time since I started I took multiple days off from both. Here's what happened:

Energy levels got worse. Significantly worse, I was taking naps multiple days in a row and just had a hard time getting out of bed in the morning.

Depression/anxiety increased. This could be due to a new supplement I started for help with my cycle (vitex), so I've eased off of that. I'll still take it, but only during my luteal.

Weight jumped by about 2 pounds. I think this was due to gut health/bloat from the alcohol. I think over 3 days I had about 3 drinks per day which is definitely more than I have had lately.

I restarted my red light habit and already feel better. Slightly better energy levels, weight dropped back down and mood is a bit better. I think the red light is my single favorite health habit I've ever done, excluding diet/exercise related interventions. Also due to some research on gut health I'm more motivated for that. I think I'm going to eat more tomatoes because I discovered those are actually pretty tasty raw with some salt/pepper.

I lost twenty pounds as of yesterday, and while the first few weeks back in March were hard it really paid off, and I'm glad I stuck with it. I have another twenty left to go and I'm really motivated now, and I'm exercising in the morning and before I go to bed .

I'm meeting up with some friends at the beach for the 4th of July this weekend and I'm really looking forward to it. I can fit into my old swimsuit from uni and if I reach my target weight I'll be able to wear a two piece by Labor Day, I think.

My clothes are loose, and people have commented on my weight loss. I have more energy now and I'm working again as well, so that helped a lot. Feels good.

Fingers crossed!
