Weight loss support thread

My dream goal is to lose at least 20 lbs in the next few months. I started attending out local fitness club here in AU, hope with some help of group training sessions I'll achieve my goal faster. Fit classes combine resistance training, body weight exercises and running . It's hard but after 45 minutes of hard work – the feeling of achievement and endorphin rush is worth it!

A weight-loss thread? Great! A place where I can talk about dieting without being kicked out for apparently fat shaming!

I seem to have a real problem with sticking to things when it comes to dieting (and being in a country where junk food is apparently more important than breathing doesn't help). Like, I can do good for a month, but then I'll completely go off the rails and ruin everything I've done. Does anybody have any tips or advice for this issue that have helped them out? I'd greatly appreciate it.
  1. Meal prep is your friend. Find a few recipes that fit the macros you're trying to hit and make enough for a week. If you have food in the fridge that will go bad within the week, it's kinda hard to justify eating other shit. (Eg, today I made a container of black bean protein hummus and some energy balls. I made seitan steaks the other day and still have 2 left. I often make chia seed puddings at night to have with/for breakfast the following morning.)
  2. If you want carbs, get them in early in the day and throw in some high intensity movement when possible
  3. Don't buy anything to keep at home that you want to avoid (eg. ice cream)
  4. Time-restricted feeding or intermittent fasting-- if I close my eating window at 5:30pm, I know I won't eat anything else. Most binge monsters come round late at night, so don't give it a chance. If you do eat late for whatever reason, don't have breakfast until later. Standard 16:8 should do the trick most of the time.

Thank you for all the advice, everyone! Now I have some bearings on what needs to change. I've decided not to approach this with the intention of merely losing weight, but rather a change in lifestyle where one of the side effects of change is being hungry and so far it's working! I've cut some things out from my diet and added more vegetables to my meals so I feel a lot fuller after eating. I've also begun doing squats and I'm already starting to see results - my clothes feel baggier, I feel more alert during the day and my figure is starting to improve!

Question:
Can you lose weight in a toxic household and you're trying to move out? Just wondering cause the amount of stress I'm experiencing should burn calories, right? I'm also on anti anxiety medication would that hinder the weight loss?

A while back I started getting the "you lost a lot of weight. so, like, you're not dying, right?" questions.

I get that fairly regularly from people.
It's funny that they automatically assume you're sick rather than losing weight on purpose.
Just hit 227.8 today, nice.

Yes, I don't see why not if you're controlling the food.

Not really, but stressed/depressed/anxious people tend to either eat next to nothing or binge. Both are not optimal, obviously.

It shouldn't, but some meds lead to weight-gain.

One morning this summer I looked in the mirror and thought to myself "Ew", I spent the next 6 months dieting and working out & managed to shed 60 pounds,
I've been stuck at 220 for like 3 weeks tho and its driving me fucking nuts, I just can't break it for some reason. :punished:

I've been getting noticeably fatter over the last sixth months. It's like I turned 30 and my body flipped a switch and said "Nah bro, can't let you get away with this stuff anymore".

I was at the doctor this week and apparently I've only gained four pounds in the last year, but I've sprouted a pretty noticeable gut and love handles. I'm one of those people that has eaten the shittiest of shit all my life and been none the worse for wear, but I think those days are over *sigh*

Plateaus are normal. Body just rearranging itself. Keep at it and you'll start dropping again.

Holy balls, I just weighed in at 239. I'm the fattest I've ever been in my life. I have no trouble working out; I just eat and drink too fucking much

I'm going to start checking in here weekly. I need to be fatshamed into not living in a perpetual Oktoberfest

Do you remember what you ate for lunch yesterday? If you're the kind of person that gets fat easily, you're going to have to keep track of what you eat.

I remember. It was way too much. Mulligan?

Today started off with a quarter sleeve of crackers because I got called into work unexpectedly. I can work from there I guess.
