Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

I recently watched ATLA. It's pretty good and I'll watch Korra whenever that comes out on Netflix.

If you go in expecting TLA again, brace for disappointment. Hope you're in the mood for cringy dialogue, bland leads, inconsistent logic, and one of the most pathetic love triangles in television history...twice!

Is Dobson still on about the ending?
Sorry, I have no idea what you're talking about.

I heard of all that. I just watched E;R's videos on it. I'll give it a shot just to say I watched it.

I am pretty disappointed that we won't ever get a series about adult Team Avatar though. (:_(

Books 3 and 4 are pretty good, but you gotta get through a lot of garbage first. And they still don't compare to most of TLA.

I tried watching The Midnight Gospel because it's Pendleton Ward and I loved Adventure Time.
Just the first episode is so far up its own ass that it was unbearable.

It's literally some guy taking snips of his podcast where he talks about le totally deep thingz with le totally interesting peeple, then makes them record a few lines like "Oh no, the zombie" or "hand me that gun" or "oh wow, what's happening?" and then there's psychedelic animation that only tangentially relates to what they're talking about.

Or at least, that was the first episode. Descriptions of further episodes did not sound promising.

I was expecting a contained plot-of-the-week setup, since the gimmick is that the main character guy uses some kind of holo-VR-videogame thing to travel to different dimensions/worlds. Or at least something that would be fun to watch when I was really baked. But instead I got the sort of unabashed hipster pretention I would expect to find at a brunch cafe using "reclaimed barnwood" and serving toast for nine dollars.

Trust me, I've skimmed through later episodes. It's literally the same shit as the first episode- MC's computer is not well-kept, so the AI sends him to these doomed or otherwise trippy worlds all the while a conversation between the lead and his guest happens.

It's as boring and pretentious as it sounds. And the animation makes my eyes want to vomit with its color scheme.

I remember people talking about it a while back and I checked out some reviews. It’s exactly what you’d expect; people were jerking it off over handling deep and philosophical themes. There was praise for the trippy visuals-but mostly it was tackling deep themes that people praised it for, even going so far as to compare it to Rick and Morty.
Also the release date was 4/20. Not sure if that’s a coincidence or not.

Is nomad of nowhere any good?
I heard RT screwed the creator over and he now wants to redo it as a comic or something

Well from what little I’ve seen so far, it hits all my interests; it’s a weird western (a rarity in any media), with the creators promising a blend between Samurai Jack, Deadwood, True Grit and Trigun, all topped off with a unique and slick artstyle. If nothing else, it will fill the Long Gone Gulch sized hole in my heart until that gets picked up. And if Rooster Teeth is screwing this show while putting more effort into schlock like Gen: Lock...well, they’re plain stupid.

I have to say, goddamn are people the hang up on the fact lesbians are in the show; the Wikipedia page even spends more time talking about LGBT rep in other shows than describing the show.

This has more to do with our thread on Netflix's She-Ra reboot, but someone who worked on the show continues to prove how horrible Western animation has gotten over the years.

Jesus FUCKING Christ, whatever happened to keeping this shit within the writer's room and NOT let it bleed into your work?

...On second thought I may have just answered that question.

Fandom getting into shipping is one can of worms. But grown staff members focusing on shipping for the shows they work on?

Granted, I get it, people are allowed to have fun with what they work on. I just fail to see the appeal; you’re working on things that involve fantastical worlds and characters, yet they focus on shipping of all things. And let’s not get into the staff members who really get into shipping...

(Also surprised to see Dou Hong again. Thought they disappeared forever.)

Just one letter away, and it'd describe any and all attempted ships by both staff and fandom alike.

Not gonna go for Toph? Possibly the most butch of the female characters?
Toph has a biological daughter in the sequel series though. I guess they might make her bi? Wonder how they'll handle the race of the cast too. Can't possibly be as retarded as what Shymalan did but I wonder if they'll have the balls to make everyone asian.

I'm going to be honest, I legit forgot that Toph was in Korra and had two daughters in it...also I just remember that she was the Police Chief before the eldest sibling took her place.
