Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

I assume this is a response to shit like victor and valentino? Never bothered watching it, seemed like the typical beanmouth slice of life affair (but they speak spanish).

Isn't villanos led by and mostly made in mexico? Seems like the better show but Im sure it wont please the woke crowd since the characters arent brown enough.

I'm bored and nostalgic.

Anyone here want to share their favorite spooky-themed cartoons?

Tex Avery's "who killed who"short is always fun. Also like the Betty Boop "minnie the moocher" short.

If you like Samurai Jack Episode 35 (Season 3 episode 9) Jack and the Haunted House is suspenseful.

Saw these on tumblr, sirartwork is pretty funny.

He has a point. CN loved to prop up Steven Universe as one of its flagship shows, but the moment China & Russia started to clutch their pearls (*ba dum tish*) and pull funding because Rebecca Sugar refused to remove the wedding (since it actually ties into the story beyond just "we are gay") suddenly CN was oddly quiet.

I can find no sources stating Russia and China were funding SU (and the story links to the wedding are pretty tenuous) but it’s a well known fact that that big companies like CN and Nick will as this person says, pay lip service to progressive ideals so long as it’s hip and trendy. For all people jack off CN for airing SU as proof CN cares about the artist, they never say anything about the censorship in Middle Eastern countries, screwing over artists past and present, or the trans unicorn fiasco.

Rebecca has mentioned foreign countries pulling funding both in person and in the recent art book. China & Russia are mostly an assumption on people's part (myself included) since they're massively conservative.

Russia can barely afford to take care of it’s own people and China only invests in big Hollywood blockbusters; if you’re assumption was only because “conservative”, I’m sorry but that’s a terrible guess. Furthermore, and please anyone correct me if I’m wrong here, but if it was receiving funding for other countries, wouldn’t that make it an international production? Yet it’s only listed as a purely American production.
Second, I saw both and she never mentioned funding, just that other countries wouldn’t show it. This part can be backed up; Russia skipped over the episode and Kenya banned the series altogether.

Sorry for not providing a source initially, took me a while to remember what video it was in (10:47)

I suddenly remember you posting this in the SU thread and I still find it...sketchy.

I mean, looking over the logistics it brings up; why is an American show by an American company taking funding from other countries to produce a show? Are other shows also taking funding from other countries? If not, what makes SU eligible to receive that funding? If other countries had such an easy way of removing the offending episodes, why cut funding?

There’s a lot with that sentence that doesn’t sit right with me.

Oh, would you look at that, a new trailer for the Animaniacs reboot has dropped. I think this has some potenti—

I can only assume that SU was more expensive to produce than most CN shows so they outsourced a lot of it to their international branches to help with funding. Nothing more than a guess though.

That’s a more interesting guess, considering it doesn’t look more expensive than other CN shows and rarely uses special CG effects, which again doesn’t sit right with me.

If this is true...holy fuck the animation errors are even more depressing.

Well, redo's cost extra. I remember Ian JQ talking about it on Twitter one time.

I was going to make a crack about how the extra money could have been used for redos but the show really just needed better boarders
I can't deny that some are better than others. A lot of the stuff that's memed on is due to the animators and not the boarders themselves, though. Not all of it but a fair amount.

I wonder why likes/dislikes and comments are disabled.

I guess most Nickelodeon cartoons are gonna be CGI from now on.

I hate how the Rugrats look, though I'll say it isn't as bad as their All Grown Up! redesigns.
I'm bored and nostalgic.

I've always been a big fan of Scooby-Doo, grew up watching the original series and What's new, Scooby-Doo? along with the various movies and spin-offs since it was always on. I wouldn't consider it the spookiest series I've seen, but I really love watching what the gang gets themselves into and it could get creep when it wanted. The original series has an incredibly nostalgic greatness to it, but my favorite will probably always be What's New, Scooby-Doo?
Thinking about it, I've been meaning to check out Mystery Incorporated, Be Cool, and the new Scoob movie. I remember reading about a lot of people hating Be Cool for the artstyle change, but I remember watching a couple episodes and finding it funny. Reading up on what the production had to deal with I'm kind of sad the series didn't really get a chance and got fucked with studio interference.

Another spooky show that isn't Scooby-Doo related I remember watching was Tales from the Crypt keeper animated.
