Heard a lot about this one. Apparently Cosgrove Hall developed a pilot for Nick's "Nicktoon" initiative that didn't get greenlit.Imagine if they continued on and work on the other show Cosgrove Hall did
Cosgrove Hall had a good relationship with Nickelodeon after the success with Danger Mouse, one of the few shows to air in the pre-splat days to get much traction, and ran it into the 90s. Hence why they took part in Count Duckula, which was a spin-off of Danger Mouse.Heard a lot about this one. And on a related notewould Russian/Soviet Cartoons count in this thread, but anyhow or anyway, a good chunk of the Soviet Cartoons are great such as Contact
They also rejected the Thunder Lizards pilot due to it being way too child-like than either Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy or Doug, but they appeared in the bumpers during the early-90s. The same happened with Big Beast Quartet, having bumpers of their own, but not picked up for a full series due to test screenings being bored.Their failure with the Nicktoons pilots seems to be where the relationship fell apart, though. CH made two pilots for Nick: Trash and the above-mentioned Crowville Chronicles. Both were rejected by test audiences (though not as badly as another pilot, The Weasel Patrol, which was apparently so shit that one of the kids in that test audience said he'd rather watch a blank screen), and once Danger Mouse and Duckula ended, so too did CH on Nickelodeon (at least in America, they did work with the international incarnation a few more times), so Americans never got Avenger Penguins, Victor and Hugo, or the like.
Yep, the American furs missed out on "Fantomcat"...Cosgrove Hall had a good relationship with Nickelodeon after the success with Danger Mouse, one of the few shows to air in the pre-splat days to get much traction, and ran it into the 90s. That show was cool. Cat couldn't tell the difference between a TV and a PC. He was even confused about the mouse.Yep, the American furs missed out on "Fantomcat"...
Ah, ReBoot. One of the earliest modern cartoons to ever do "serialization".....and it still does it better than today's dreck.reboot
That's tony jay for you he was the villian voice for the decade, megabyte, frollo hell even that...mighty ducks cartoon as...wtf as it was, it had him and tim curry both playing rival vilians in it. Also funny how the season from 95 is the second one, often considered the point where reboot really took off.Ah, ReBoot. One of the earliest modern cartoons to ever do "serialization".....and it still does it better than today's dreck.
SPOILER: This scene in particular still gives me chills, even over a decade later.....

Fun fact: Tony Jay initially couldn't do the final note of the song Hellfire, and requested that it be lowered, but Alan Menken said no. So, he had to go take vocal lessons in order to hit it and hold it.frollo
27 years..and it still gives me chills down to the bone. To go from An old man losing his last bit of moral high ground to....strange world, turning red, zootopia 2....Ugh I almost wish i hadn't picked this week to get on the wagon.Fun fact: Tony Jay initially couldn't do the final note of the song Hellfire, and requested that it be lowered, but Alan Menken said no. Why'd you have to get the clip with the lower pitch, goddamn you.Fun fact: Tony Jay initially couldn't do the final note of the song Hellfire, and requested that it be lowered, but Alan Menken said no. So, he had to go take vocal lessons in order to hit it and hold it.

ReBoot had only one good season and that was the first season. Went on longer than it should have.Ah, ReBoot. One of the earliest modern cartoons to ever do "serialization".....and it still does it better than today's dreck.

I freely admit not everything from the "good ole days," was all THAT good. There were indeed total duds in some cases that no amount of time or hindsight can ever make look good in comparison. I've seen them going year by year; Hammer man, wish kids, Kid n play (tas) mega babies. The rose glasses can only filter so much before no matter what a turd is still a turd.ReBoot had only one good season and that was the first season. Went on longer than it should have.
