Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

I usually have nothing bad to say about these shorts myself. They're at least taking the characters to new avenues.

Muppet Babies (2018) - I knew this wouldn't measure up.

BTW, noticed this showed up...

Oh, if only, Oregon. If only. Still, that's the kind of cartooning (anime-style done right) we need to see more of on TV.

The original Muppet Babies had those fun live action sequences as some bite and wit to it; this looks more watered down.

Anyway, I'm sure you guys have heard of the upcoming She-Ra reboot on Netflix. Given that some art of it has been leaked, it's stirred up some controversy. Why does She-Ra have a guy-ish torso with no breasts and a silly looking crown (other than the fact that a writer for an SJW-approved comic book (Lumberjanes) is helping out in production)?

BTW, not surprised to see more and more people turning on this new adaptation of Muppet Babies. Just seems like your typical puppet show to distract, rather than to entertain.

I just can't see it being anything special like the old-school joint was (and it's a damn shame about all the copyrights keeping it from ever getting a proper physical / online release for those of us to enjoy that might want to see it again - like myself, just to see if it truly holds up.).

Something about old-school Muppet Babies' ability to blend live-action with animation has only really been matched by Amazing World of Gumball, IMHO - and yet, THAT still managed to be more endearing, despite BOTH being able to aim for more than just the target audience (kids) so damn well, too.

As for that new She-Ra series - seems like it has SJW written all over it; not something I'd go out of my way for, really.

That's also why it hasn't been put out on DVD yet. Perhaps that's why they're not really doing it in the new show.

No, that's exactly why - Copyright infringement is something Disney does not want staring them down. So, of course, we ain't ever gonna see it again.

Is this being worked on by people who did Avatar: The Last Airbender? The art style and the way they draw bodies and faces specifically is very reminiscent.

We wish. Ad agencies always have the money to blow on stuff like this.

I'm sure its no different from what you'd see on Disney Junior or Nick Jr.

I'd rather we had shows like that.

I didn't even watch it the first time around in the 80's, but by then I grew out of He-Man anyway.

the design would have been better if they kept the skirt and maybe make the pants shorts of some sort.

I think those Airbender dudes are busy with Voltron, if not then they've really dropped the ball.

I loved chowder as a kid. Rewatching some of it as an adult, I can see they put a fuck ton of imaginative shit in there, like using puppets or food to transition through the scene, or even just the weird thing they did with the coloring that looked like it was moving??? I dont know what it's called, but I do know the creator of chowder talked a little bit about it while on the rebel taxi pizza party podcast. It was an incredibly cute show, and the ending was hilarious cause it was just straight up fan service with chowder and panini having a gazillion babies.

Also, I liked the marvelous misadventures of flap jack. Still kinda sad that show never got a good ending or showed candy island.

They really fucked both of those shows over with their shitty attempts to do live action. Thank God they bombed and CN is all cartoons nowadays.

I know, right??? They had to fuck it up by trying to copy Nickelodeon and Disney with live shows.

Too bad they're on a reboot high and playing teen titans go non stop. And the animation looks really soulless too.

I'm slightly bitter that Iron Giant is being made known to the public more through Ready Player One. It never had the chance when it was released way back when.
I know the feeling (if only since it's been 19 years too late). I remember when I was the only one in that theater along with a few elderly couples, because I guess we didn't matter.

I didnt know where to post this, so I'm doing it here:

Sega announced a series of shorts called: ''sonic mania adventures'' that is made in the same style of sonic mania's animated intro and probably by the same team too.

they should be 5 in total and this is the sneak peek they just released yesterday.

Was the Iron Giant even in the book? I tried to read it a few years ago and stopped because it felt too all over the place.

Ya know what they say - all publicity is good publicity (or however the saying goes, you get my point). The iron giant deserves whatever attention it gets, even if it's from.....that movie. (I hope they don't butcher his character. And I hope it brings in a new generation of fans for the movie)
