Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Speaking of the Iron Giant, I came across this video not that long ago and wanted to share it.

Reminded someone made this recently...

EDIT: I'm reminded this was how they promoted it on TV back then. Be the judge....

Not to double-post, but this guy made a follow-up earlier this month....

I didnt know where to post this, so I'm doing it here:

Sega announced a series of shorts called: ''sonic mania adventures'' that is made in the same style of sonic mania's animated intro and probably by the same team too.

they should be 5 in total and this is the sneak peek they just released yesterday.
I still can't believe that the guy who made this
Went on to make those

Was the Iron Giant even in the book? I tried to read it a few years ago and stopped because it felt too all over the place.

From what I understand, the Iron Giant's role in the movie has been expanded compared to the book to replace Ultraman due to licensing issues.

I'm slightly bitter that Iron Giant is being made known to the public more through Ready Player One. It never had the chance when it was released way back when.

I remember that The Iron Giant got heavily-promoted in Montreal, even getting bus ads, but that's mainly because it premiered at Montreal's FantAsia festival a month or so before the wide release.

Just watched the newest episode of Final Space(pretty sure it was available online a week in advance, but I’m sticking with the tv broadcast for the hell of it). Did not expect to get so many feels out of the episode, but I really liked it. Also made me like the show overall more too. Looking forward to where it goes from here.

Heard recently another legend of animation's past has passed away, Fred Crippen. Though he may not be known much other than for this particular series, which while being very cheaply produced, you could argue they got a lot out of the writing and acting with the talent provided.

Some of the same staffers got together again and did "Dirk Niblick of the Math Brigade" for CTW's Square One Television some 20 years later.

I was wondering, didn't he die a few years ago, but I just realized that I was thinking of Gary Owens, the voice of both Roger Ramjet and Dirk Niblick, who died in 2015, whereas this time it's their creator and animator Fred Crippen. So it's almost as though Roger Ramjet and Dirk Niblick just died a second time. R.I.P.

A main cast member of Square One Television died recently too, Reg E. Cathey, who played Smilin' Al Gorithm in the "Mathematics R' Us" sketches, and he was also the Rapping Judge, the country singer, and a vampire, among many other roles. He died of lung cancer at only 59.

Not to mention writer/voice actor Jim Thurman, who passed away a decade before. It seemed like a perfect triangle of talent on both projects.

Here's something Fred did I was impressed to noticed, and it still quite relevant to today's fractured times.

That's pretty sad, and quite young too. Used to watch that show daily when it was on. :(

Such a shame when it's people you once admired.

I was expecting this to drop for a while. After everything else the man's done this should be no surprise.

(Amazingly, on social media, there's a lot of people who seem unaware of the fact that John K.'s a complete tool and seem to be surprised about this. Now you're turning on him? Now after half the shit he's done?)

What with the sort of stuff he did!

It's odd sometimes how people never take notice.

Latest MeToo news - who can really say they're surprised by this?

(I should mention that even though this is BuzzFeed and you are probably going to be suspicious about it, I've heard stories about this before, and needless to say his reputation is so shitty - and deservedly so - that I fully believe it.)
Aah yes the secret everyone has known for years. Good to see some of the girls finally talking about him. Honestly I wound't say John K finally fell though since he was always in the gutter, it just now there's solid proof for the public to disgust.

Yeah, but now he'll never get out. Not that I mind, of course.

So I watched one of the videos in the other thread, and in it John K. mentions how upset he was that he couldn't draw sexy girls much in the industry in the 80s. And it really is no secret that (male) animators tend to draw up all the pin-up girls as they want in between work--fine, whatever, but the way John kept gesturing to Ms. Rice while talking about it was extremely uncomfortable.

So this is making me a little paranoid now because I'm worried Chris Sanders (Lilo & Stitch, The Croods) may have similar skeletons in his closet. Far as I know he has a much more positive reputation than John by a landslide, but I just remembered Sanders' portfolio site and that I had checked it out ages ago only once because it weirded me out a bit--yet that didn't deter me from still enjoying his work. And I know he draws all his female characters in a similar, chunky fashion, including the underage characters. I haven't been hearing of what he's been up to lately, like I don't think he was actually in charge of directing The Croods 2 before its cancellation, still, with how rampant the #MeToo allegations have been going on including affecting John Lasseter, it's only a matter of time before another critically-acclaimed animator gets accused. And Sanders, unfortunately, seems like he'd be on that list. :c

I mean yeah, it'd be much more hard-hitting if someone like Eric Goldberg or Don Bluth was revealed to be a predator, but still...

Fuck.
