Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

They were done to cover up the fact that the ratings are shit when it airs regularly, and to avoid canceling the show and firing their "first femail showrunner" because of it. And the dates on which these drop are times when nothing good is on TV so that it looks the most interesting by comparison.

To save face, basically.

That's odd, because I had a weird suspicion that it was done by someone who secretly hated the show and wanted to present it in a weird, unappealing way. Nobody liked those Bomb things.

Three words (concerning Nick): The. Loud. House. Plus Dan Schneider (even though that's not cartoons.). No reminders should be needed there. Well, if not that, than the cancerous fanbase for it and its pedophile/rapist creator.

I already mentioned the pedophile connections. Besides working with Savino and Kricfalusi, is the environment at Nick somewhat better than at CN and DTVA?

Honestly if the animation industry is toxic, aspiring animators who don't want to buy into their shit can follow #Comicsgate and go indie.

Does anyone really believe this who has a knowledge of the industry?

I smelled the bullshit when the guy talked about CN having no standards and practices board. They do. Here's an Adventure Time storyboarder complaining about them. (Yes, this article is a few years old, but I doubt Christina Miller has gotten rid of them.)

The /co/ thread pretty much delves into the details about it, and their criticisms of the video and what the supposed "insider" gets wrong are all, as far as I can tell, correct vis-a-vis my knowledge of what's going on in animation. (The industry anon tells the truth.)

This whole thing is as believable as those "and the whole bus clapped" Tumblr stories. Who knows, some of this could turn out to be true but right now I'm not buying it.
(also your link isn't working.)

Honestly, if you look at it, it's as though someone was actively trying to construct a narrative that would appeal to the exact kind of people who would get angry about modern cartoons.

Actually, if you look at the cancer that is YouTube comments on said video, THAT is exactly who this appeals to, hence the counterattack of 4chan posters who don't believe it, at the same time.

While this was posted earlier this month, I've just come across this snipped from Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors:

Is this really the best a disney-funded Marvel can do? I mean, I guess it's neat how Kamala's jaws move with her mouth, but I don't think it compensates for the choppy animation, muted colors and weightless line work. I'm sure people will eat up Kamala being all Kawaii-uguu-pseudo-anime-waifu though.

Exactly. Even though I liked that the video is signal boosting some of the dirty laundry that's been under wraps for a while, some of it is pretty far reaching (Me-Mow wasn't a rip off of Killer Queen. It was a fan character that a young fan sent in that Pen wanted to work into the show.). It is kinda upsetting that this is making people want to give up on the animation industry. There's shit business practices, but that's something you run into a lot when it comes to these big time jobs.
Just keep your chin up, keep on practicing, and be the change you want to be.

Well the sheer level of nepotism will need to end if it is get better, perhaps from this some other company will want to pick them up where professionalism is valued, either that or some other service will ask them to join like a Hulu or a Netflix.

Well, services like Amazon, Hulu, and Netflix are in need of more quality cartoons - they could be that new beginnning, provided they set some proper ground rules to keep things in check. It sucks that it has to be said, but this nepotism has gotta go down hard if we want to see real change & bounce-back in this medium anytime soon.

Yeah, Marvel Animation's quality kinda went to shit around season 2 of Earth's Mightiest Heroes and the creation of Ultimate Spiderman that brought on a whole slew of awful writers and producers who thought because it was for kid they don't need to try - namely Man of Action, Joe Quesada, Jeph Loeb, and ((BENDIS)) - and changing up their outsourcing company for a cheaper one. Those schmucks pretty much set the bog standard as to what they want as the tone/art direction for all their shows since then.

Worst part is that despite all of them typically having terrible ratings, they still make bank in merchandise because kids by the Marvel Animation Spider-Man merch not so much because they watch the show, let alone like it, but because it's Spider-Man or the Avengers just like in the movies and kids would badger their parents for merch even without the shows. But since Marvel or Disney doesn't make that distinction the shows tend to persist way longer than they should.

Eh, I'll stick with @Dollars2010 's depiction of corgis.

You know, even when Spectacular Spider-Man's art style arguably wasn't the prettiest thing ever, it more then made up for it with its incredibly animated fight scenes. This secret warriors thingy not only has ugly art paired up with terrible animation, it also looks this bad despite being a feature film, which should mean its production values should be higher compared to a series. Oh, and America Chaves is every bit an unbearable, needlessly aggressive cunt in it as she is in her thankfully canceled comic book series, so that's another knock against it.

You think the British royalty look at shit like this and wonder where it all went so horribly wrong?

I’m not sure what to make of these corgis. I’m quite pleased that they didn’t dock their tails! But still, something seems uncanny valley about their appearance. Then again, corgi anatomy is quite simple!

Explains so fucking much. The toys sell, but the content is commitee-driven WEAK. When people start to learn the difference will be a miracle to me.
