with how incredibly excited i am for shrek 5s new animation and absolutely hysterical choice of humor showcased in the trailer, i anticipate with baited breath for the wacky spinoff adventures in Donkey (2029) where our favorite black comedian eddy murphy, his gaggle of animal hybrid kids (voiced by chris pratt, zendaya and seth rogan), and his sassy dragon wife (now voiced by Awkwafina) go on a crazy hilarious adventure full of slapstick humor and outdated memes, alongside addressing serious tones such as standing up for what’s right, the strength of unity, with nods to movements like black lives matter and learning to support one of his young donkey dragon kids struggling with identity issues, showing how every voice—no matter how small or loud—can make a difference.

Funny thing is people have been saying the same about the franchise since the first movie and it developed an ironic fanbase becoming the movie equivalent of the Sonic Franchise, and in recent years that ironic enjoyment eventually became sincere enjoyment of the movies.

I'm not saying the movie will be good, but the reaction I'm seeing is a return to form of how the movies were seen more than a decade ago.

At least this feels like the kinda cringe that the franchise used to market as, unless there is a trans character or a racism allegory in the movie, a lot of Dream Work comedies are a little misleading with their marketing, like the Kung Fu Panda franchise marketing itself as a Jack Black Martial Arts exploitation childrens film and all movies up to three end up being a solid action franchise for the family.
