Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

From what i've seen so far about the DMC animated series (you'll never gonna make a true anime Adi!) is that yet again Adi Shankar manages to fuck up the original premise and make something that is popular with normies & tourists yet hated by the og fandom of the franchise, look dude there are reasons why a meme about never letting this man touch Berserk exists

Its clearly not that popular though, you'll stop hearing about it a week or two from now when the astroturfed bot accounts and Reddit trannies stop sperging out about it on Xitter.

Just watch the opening first 10-15 minutes. When I think of DMC I think of the geopolitics and what the American government is doing about demons...oh wait no I don't.
-Mercs break into Vatican to steal artifacts (I guess this is a reference to DMC 2)
-Force Edge is there - rabbit demon appears and makes an immediate remark about Americans shooting things on site, how "hell is the true heart of human religion", how humans must always use collective fear and hatred to curb their savagery (wonder if he's talking about hell or something else here hmmm).
-Cut to Dante saving a woman and her baby from demons - does that "ironic" thing of "aw shuck I don't have a good line let me make one up".
-Baby is a demon in disguise - Dante gets hit by the mother preventing him from killing it.
-Cut to news talking about the Vatican breakin and some liberal vs conservative debate and the US government looking into it.
-Have some pajeet explain how demons are an offshoot from human DNA
At this point I turn it off. Everything you feared/heard about is true. Its not even subtle about it at all.

It has more backlash compared to the Castlevania series mainly that the DMC games have a more accessible story with a larger fanbase that can see through the bullshit. There are still some praiseworthy parts, but the cringy pop culture references, blatant meme pandering of DMC5 (like Virgil saying "I am that Storm" while the Storm song plays right after and Devil Trigger playing during Dante's scene despite that being Nero's song), the really tone deaf use of American politics for a humans are the real monsters message (which reminder Adi happily attended the inauguration party this year) while making a pretty tasteless allegory for making innocent Demons into arabs given current events (alongside the fact its convenient the only "nice demons" are all the human looking ones).

Hell let's not forget the staple of making the Christians the worse bad guys, making at least one character swear like a sailor, and making scientific explanations for supernatural stuff.

And Lady is perhaps the most butchered character from the source material to the series.

It's still getting the "OMG it's so progressive! Take that Christain Rethuglicans!" from Reddit, but word of mouth is killing its momentum. No fucking way this is popular with how Devil May Cry has a solid fanbase. It's so on the nose I can hardly see through the crowd of arabs and jews dancing to this shit.

Thanks, #bettercartoon, for reminding me exactly why modern western animation is such a joke in the first place.

Yeah, people are going to feel mixed about something like R&S being revived, and picking up a pitch is largely all about finding a diamond in the rough and weeding out all the rest (Sturgeon's Law does exist for a reason, after all), but is it really that hard to make a cartoon these days without any of the following?
  • a lazy-ass art direction (everyone else is doing it, so why not)
  • a half-assed overarching plot that exists just to blatantly follow the "muh deep lore" trend rather than genuinely wanting to plan out and craft a good story with good worldbuilding
  • lead characters whose defining trait boils down to "TEEHEE I'M SO QUIRKY I'M NOT LIKE OTHER GURLZ GAIZ TRUST ME LULZ XD"
  • "MAGIC AND WIZARDS JUST LIKE HARRY POTTER OMG"
  • forced wokeness/"muh diversity" for the sake of Twitter brownie points
  • "subtle" messages about how white cishet males are literally Hitler (again, for the sake of Twitter brownie points)
  • drawn out shipping/"will they or won't they" plot lines just for 14-year-old girls to vicariously live out their fantasies
  • EDIT: awkward insertion of serious issues (abuse, abandonment, neglect, troublesome exes, etc.) into a freaking kids' show that makes you question the mental stability of the writers (I'm not sure how I could have forgotten this, though in all fairness R&S is rife with this as well)
Like, at all?
I know this is about 4 to 5 years back but with the current lineup of shows that nobody seems to really care about i remember this little hashtag from years ago and thought it was a joke. All these tumblr types trying to trip over each other to get their bland queer/diversity cartoons that never would have had any chance plus they're too lazy to go indie. A lot of these seem like they were ran through a prompt to pitch a generic SJW show and honestly the artist side of me just looks at the style and gets a little annoyed lol. Did/Do these people not get that this stuff looks the exact same and let's say a few of them did actually get their shows greenlit. You have a network with like 3 or 4 of the same looking show with the same premises and same checklist of brownie points.

Just discovered this.

I already thought Dead End was ugly as balls on top of all its other problems, and this doesn’t look much better. Haven’t even watched the whole trailer and I’m inclined to agree with everyone saying that it looks like this:

The comments are saying “oh, it could have been great!” But I think there were probably reasons it didn’t see the light of day.

That was so incredibly mid. There wasn't a single thing in that trailer that made me want to watch the show, it was literally just "okay, don't do X thing" [cut to other character doing X thing] "wow you did X thing you suck," repeat over and over. I kind of wish someone would go back in time and shoot Joss Whedon for creating the quirky millennial writing style that poisons all of this shit.

I think the only memorable thing about it is the title. And I don’t even know if the “haha, you said nutwood, penis!” innuendo is intentional or not.

My first thought was penis, my second thought was Nutbush, and I don't think anyone wants their show to remind people of Tina Turner OR genitals. Definitely would've needed revision before making it to air.
