Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

This reminds me - the intro to the German show Jim Button and Thomas the Engine Driver always felt super similair to the Duck Tales inro.
This cartoon has altogether been the third adaptation of Ende's book (of the same name) I think.
The first one being a rather successful marionette play from the 60's - 70's, that was pretty charming honestly, but the puppet design of jim did not age well

And a freaking anime adaptation

Had a snappy tune. Why the kid ended up white, who knows.

Speaking of Disney. I just remembered that this poster for the Rescue Rangers movie was released. Look closely in the background, a mask mallard may be getting the same treatment(or its a hint to Seth Rogen's film)

I watched a film (which is actually 3 short films) called The House on Netflix. It uses stop motion animation and the shorts are pretty entertaining. The second one involving the neurotic property developer is my favourite.

I think my favorite out of all of them is the first one, it kinda reminds me of Over The Garden Wall and Stanley Kubrick's The Shining

Oban Star Racers is kickstarting a blu-ray release. It reached its goal three times over in one day. :drink:

The creator of OSR is listed in the description as also the creator of "The 2 Queens". That name sounded very goddamn familiar. A quick search brought back a memory of seeing this logo on an animation forum years ago.

It looks like the project has been known about for almost a decade. It's also listed on the studio's website as "in development". So 2 Queens might not be cancelled, it's just in development hell. After seeing this trailer I hope they crowdfund this too. i tried uploading an archive video but it wouldn't fucking post

In order for something to be created......

....something else must be destroyed.

At least the original creators are involved. I've followed the story of their attempts at a revival for awhile now and am glad it's coming to fruition....
But the Indian company isn’t just looking to the past for inspiration—it recently teamed up with NFT platform Guardian Link to launch a new division that will turn its proprietary and third-party brands into collectible digital tokens.
Oh.

So The Boondocks reboot isn't happening anymore.
Boondocks Star Reveals Sony Pictures Has "Pulled the Plug" on Reboot
I think it's for the best considering that Grandad's VA (John Witherspoon) is dead and so are a few others who were on the show, and I don't know how it would have been changed (for the worse) considering the current political climate. Not only that but I'm pretty sure it was announced like 4 years ago and we haven't heard a single thing about it since.

Mark my words, a "gritty" live-action version will pop up,

>game is known for its fluid hand-drawn animation, which takes its inspiration from 30s Fleischer cartoons
>TV show is generically animated in Toon Boom

If there were ever a more perfect metaphor for the cheapness of "hand-drawn" animation these days, I just don't know what it could be.
Ehh I don’t really have an issue with it not being super duper authentic hand drawn like the games, such animation would be time consuming, expensive, and ultimately pointless considering the level of technology we have now. Digital animation can do a pretty Damn good job and recreating almost any art style from a time period these days.

Just look at things like Stickin around or the incredible Japanese watercolour art from A Tale of Princess Kaguya. Two pieces of animation on the opposite ends of the artistic quality spectrum, yet there were both made with digital ink and colour to replicate techniques that were previously hand-drawn with incredible success. We don’t need consistent hand drawn animation now mainly because we can pretty much accurately replicate the same painterly effects with Digital animation with almost no noticeable difference.

This whole issue of not ‘traditional’ animation being an issue is stupid and reeks of nostalgiatards and purists.

That’s the issue: Nobody would give a shit if it wasn’t traditional if it at least looked the part, yet they didn’t do that. It instead looks like a modern cartoon in a world “inspired” by classic cartoons.

It was pretty far left for its time but now it would be problematic. Could you even have Uncle Ruckus still? It's no longer acceptable for even a left winger to have a character who says racist shit even if he's also occasionally allowed to make an actual point.

Amazing how far we swing the other way.

>Billy & Mandy was his only hit
>Evil Con Carne was a flop
>Underfist series was cancelled
>his other show that he developed for CN never got made
>got fired from CN since Billy & Mandy ruined their brand
>Spend years working on Dead Meat, only for it to get cancelled after 7 years of development due to Union reasons
>Diagnosed with autism
>Billy & Mandy movie was rejected by CN
>Low on money and has to sell his background and production art from B&M

Is there any other cartoonist that had their show treated poorly by networks?

The ones whose shows didn't run for several seasons?... I dunno, Mo Willems should probably be angry they ran new episodes of Sheep in the Big City at five in the afternoon on Sundays.

Of course, most creators don't get the chance to sell another show. Genndy Tartakovsky and Craig McCracken, sure, but even Pen Ward had to go to the Internet to get another of his ideas made back when Adventure Time was the big CN hit.

At least Danny Antonucci is taking it well after Ed, Edd & Eddy.
