Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

I don't know if it's been said before either here or in the Disney general thread but I gotta get it off my mind.

I recently realized something. Turning Red is basically Pixar making an animated movie about an Asian teenager going through puberty... particularly that "time of the month" part. The red panda's a not so subtle metaphor especially when you consider the movies being helmed by some chink chick.

From the simple story of what your toys do when you leave the room to this...was it worth it Pixar? Was it worth signing on the dotted line with blood to sell your soul? Like Faust in his quest for forbidden knowledge, you desire the approval of the masses.

Speaking of Disney, it seems they're getting dragged by a bunch of their staff over for giving money to Politicians who supported Florida's "Don't Say Gay" Bill, and generally being one-sided when it comes to LGBT issues.

And now Dana Terrace has made a video response on the whole thing.

Boy is this livestream gonna be a shitshow if any of her previous streams are anything to go by...

I'd insert that meme about choosing to push a button. You know the one?

Support multi billion dollar company that makes product.

Support the LGBTQIA cause and boycott product.

It'd laugh if I could remember how...or maybe the idea has just become too much of a cliche to be funny anymore.

I say boycott the product.

I have no idea if I said this in this thread, but the dude who made Mary and Max, Adam Elliot has a new film that just entered production last year, called Memoir of a Snail.

source is from Variety, on top of that, Screen Australia, the aussie governments film production arm, listed this as in-production.

The Victor Salva movie? Since when did Disney own that? And since when were there any lesbians in it?

no offense to mr Salva, but nothing about his movie is more horrifying than Disney asking kids if they wanna go to a prom with a middle aged woman dressed like a man.

or with an androgynous teenage girl dressed like a clown because she's queer™ and retarded. Nice representation, Dana, very realistic 🌈

You would think that’s what they would do and it’s what one would do if they feel strongly about this subject. But as seen with past controversies once a new product is pushed out people will glue themselves to that and eventually everything will be swept under the rug. Like clockwork.

For once I respect Disney.

I love how the reason Luz is an androgynous retard who can't dress herself is because Dana made her that way just so she could brag about in the never ending dick measuring contest these so called representation Olympics are.

if you went off just owl house's first season, Luz would come off as tomboyish but still a good kid who's a little weird but really not that far a stretch from say Lilo from Lilo and stitch or any kid character in western animation from the last couple years.

oh, but noooo that's not enough for Dana. Gotta tick all those representation boxes in current year of you want approval of the masses*

*Cartoon spergs on Twitter and other raving mobs who screech more representation despite not actually watching the shows or supporting the company. As opposed to the target audience of kids and parents.

That's been going on for atleast a decade, Breaking Bad did the same thing for its final season
It wasn't to screw over the creators, though. They didn't call it two seasons, either, just a single season split into two sections. It was to give more time to actually write the final episodes.

Disney has always had a schizophrenic attitude toward the gheys. Even though lots of their staff are gay, while Walt was alive they had to shut up about that in public. Now they have Gay Days and similar things. But the Mouse is self-interested and will donate to whoever will vote to extend their copyrights again.
funny how she had no problems when Disney was censoring lesbians out of Clown House overseas
And while doing that completely turned a blind eye to Victor Salva being one of the more blatant child molesters in Hollywood.

Some debatable choices but this meme is pretty much 80% on the nose. Wouldn’t have had regular show that high, replace it with Billy and Mandy , and replace AT with Gumball. Was a brilliant cartoon through and through.
I am going to be honest, I never got the hype over Ed, Edd n’ Eddy. It was a fine show, but I feel Courage and Bravo were a lot better from the initial 6 Cartoon Cartoons.

As for the list, I would probably change around a few things. Courage and Chowder should be higher. I would also personally place Adventure Time at number 1. The show has many, many faults, but I respect AT for how ballsy it can be. Also, where the hell are Dexter, Samurai Jack, The Powerpuff Girls, Foster’s, and Total Drama?

Adventure Time did start off as good but then gradually transformed into a soyboy SJW show. Yes, I agree, the later seasons did embody everything wrong with modern cartoons which unfortunately led to the creation of Steven Universe. I cringed at a lot of neckbeards and soyboys on reddit that were crying over the half assed series finale of Adventure Time. They attacked me after I made a valid critism of the poorly executed finale too, instead of respecting my opinion and calmly disagreeing like adults. I also didn't bother watching Distant Lands because of the fan service, like Bonnie and Marceline become a lesbian couple. I'm not homophobic, I just hate how the CalArts shows keep shoving the agenda down people's throats and they're not doing a good job making it subtle.
I will defend AT. The show had a really rough mid-season 5 and season 6, but past that it got progressively better. Season 7 was pretty simple. Fans hated the back to basics approach of that season, but it was refreshing after the wannabe Steven cluster fuck of season 6 where Gunther is some alien god or some shit. The two miniseries Stakes and Islands were also really good and filled with great moments.

While I was never a fan of PB and Marcy, I will at least give credit to the fact that writers did write it in over the course of multiple episodes rather than pull a Korra and having them just make out at the end. I really don’t feel an agenda being pushed with the two, but rather that AT was just corralled by fans, which is pretty common in the series. The show was peak shipping-bait in its heigh day and AT has always had piss-poor story lines.

>comparing Lilo to Luz
Vlcsnap-2013-01-02-13h12m03s108.webp.jpeg

Nigga, please. Lilo, even in her flanderized TV incarnation, will always be a better character than Luz, simply because of the fact that she has a noble goal: finding all of Stitch's cousins, and finding them a suitable home. That's not even getting into her characterization in the original movie, which is still to this day, one of the best written child characters in fiction. What are Luz's goals? Learning magic? She barely even focuses on that. Finding her way home? Doesn't even cross her mind (gee, way to be considerate of your mother, who's probably worried sick about you, bitch). You're comparing apples to oranges with those two. "Any kid character in western animation from the last couple years"? THAT comparison, I agree with.
