Gerald Potterton, Director of Animated Cult Classic ‘Heavy Metal,’ Dies at 91

Well, there goes my childhood. Here’s to hoping Gerald is resting well. 91 is not too shabby.

Though, it does not help that this week, I was supposed to watch Heavy Metal for old time’s sake. Also, I found out about this this past weekend, so I’m not too keen on thinking that this is a coincidence.

He was an NFB alumni as well.

Also made a Christmas special that was an update of a NFB short.

Little interview!

He didn't direct it but he did produce the beautiful 1971 film of The Selfish Giant.

As for the Toonheads thing, the same guy also released another special that never made it - The Twelve Missing Hares, which featured clips from the twelve Bugs Bunny shorts that weren't shown in the 2001 June Bugs marathon. It was supposed to feature every Bugs short - but then again, I wonder whether they really could have gotten away with showing "All This and Rabbit Stew."

Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce you to Plasmo:
Plasmo charts the misadventures of the titular alien, a 3-year-old shapeshifting "polybop" stranded since he was an egg on the barren world of Pynco, as he strives to adventure into space and find out the secrets of his origins. Aiding him in his quest are his surrogate sister, Parsty, their best friend Nik-Nik, and the inept alien adventurers Coredor and Brucho. Heavily underrated, and Anthony Lawrence should be proud of himself for making it. Above is the original 1989 short. You can find the 1997 full series here.
Ah, I remember watching Plasmo on ABC as a kid. Don't see any Aussie kid shows like this anymore.

Some actual good Western animation news coming our way, it’s a shame their not HD releases but finally having a physical release of such legendary shows is always welcome.

Would Megas XLR get a similar deal or is it legally impossible as well?
Everyone keeps talking about how it's a tax write-off but it's streaming now on HBO Max in Mexico and South America. And Beware the Batman, which was also written off (so they said at Adult Swim), is also on HBO Max here in the U.S. (change that to "was" if it isn't on there now).

So no, I don't think it's legally impossible... but it depends on whether CN wants to do it.
