I could sit thru the two live action movies no problem they have an almost time capsule of 2002-2004 charm to them, but this? I wasn't joking I legit couldn't watch past the fucking opening and title screen. It was so irritating to watch I had to walk away. I had to go to a different site and watch an episode of the flintstones. Fred getting mad over a stolen soda from his fridge then turning into a "classy gentleman type." After getting hit on the head with a bottle of car polish may be saccharine and corny, but it was a like an Alka seltzer after a bad batch of leftovers.

I am moreso pointing out how these guys have been around for potentially upwards of 20-40 years and still dominate over essentially everybody. The fact that studios are crawling back to them because the newbies suck so bad really says something. They should probably be done by now or making small passion projects, not literally leading studio and all its animation like it is the 90s again. It should be concerning that all the talent is stored in people who have been going for decades and probably are close to retirement.

Groening - Hard to deny the influence of the Simpsons on not only animation but popular culture. Futurama should also be mentioned as a big series as well.

Bruce Timm & Paul Dini - The DCAU. Are you really going to question the leads of BTAS getting a spot?

Gennedy - He basically laid the foundation of CN with Dexter then became one of the most influential action show writers past Timm and Dini with Samurai Jack, The Clone Wars, Symbionic Titan, and Primal all being held up to high esteem.

McCracken - The Powerpuff Girls is within the big 3 CN IPs, so he deserves quite a bit of credit for the popularity of it alone, but then he made Foster’s and Wander, and was a large contributor to Gennedy’s work.

Klasky & Csupo - They get forgotten a lot, but the Rugrats was fucking huge for its time. That series managed to pull of a win against the Super Bowl for ratings in 2002 with All Grown Up, which is unbelievable. If any Nickelodeon talent past Hillenberg should get credit, it is certainly these two.

Lasseter - I mean, Pixar, am I right?

Brad Bird - Iron Giant, Incredibles, are we done?

Katzenberg - love him or hate him, the mother fucker deserves a spot for how much shit he was in charge of and managed to do. The asshole was all in on animation taking the Oscars and spearheaded many of the Disney Renaissance greats like Beauty & The Beast. He then went and established DreamWorks and masterpieces like Shrek and Prince of Egypt. Dude was an arrogant asshole, but he changed animation in a shit ton of ways and had many positive contributions.

Ward - Probably the only modern creator worth mentioning. Regardless of opinion on Adventure Time, it shook up the animation world throughout the 2010s in both positive and negative ways. He should get credit for the accomplishments AT brought.

Selick - Probably the only man to create mainstream stop-motion animation. Coraline and Nightmare Before Christmas are lesser stated animation wins, even if they are Goth Topic shit.

Judge - King of The Hill being the greatest slice of life anime from the west should automatically add him to the list, but he also pushed adult animation in the early years with Beavis and Butthead.

Matt Stone and Trey Parker - South Park is really the only true successor to the Simpsons let’s be honest. The amount of balls early South Park had and cultural domination is why they deserve to be remembered with the greats.

Honorable mentions:

George Lucas - Alright, hear me out. Lucas may not be everyone’s favorite, and you may not associate him with animation, but I think his role goes understated. The prequels were super impressive animation wise and George heavily invested in animation technologies. Lucas Arts really pushed quality tv animation as Clone Wars was always at threat of cancellation given how much money they dumped into getting fantastic CGI animation for a tv series. Hell, I remember hearing that it was his loaned out tech that helped make Rango look as amazing as it did in 2011. Lucas deserves a mention for how much he and his company pushed the tech at the very least.

Burton - Again, love or hate him, the foundation of stop-motion animation basically hinges on him and his style nowadays. He really helped shape the medium.

Please tell me if I missed anyone or where the list may be shit. I mainly just looked at 90s and above.

Does anyone else wanna use find a grave to send a flower memorial to William hanna and Joe Barbara's graves? WHO IS THIS FOR? WTF. Good grief, it's one thing to for example make fun of older cartoons that came before you as in the case of Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law or even Venture Brothers to a certain extent although I personally think what they ultimately did there with both the Johnny Quest and Scooby characters was tasteless compared to the former, but this is flat out desecration. What even is the point? These people do understand they are encouraging not only other people to do this to other classic cartoons, but also encouraging people in the future to desecrate things that are coming out now.

Antonucci, McHale, Osborne, Nick Park, Tomm Moore and maybe Man of Action. I would have Del Toro as an honourable mention.

Man of Action is something I thought about, but since it wasn’t a specific creator, it gets hard to say. I do agree though. I was never much of a Ben 10 fan, but Generator Rex is low key one of the best action cartoons ever made and a great horror at times. If I am not mistaken, did they also do Jackie Chan and The Batman?

Antonucci is another great given Ed, Edd n’ Eddy.

For Nick, like Man of Action, you could probably just say Aardman in general as other than Selick and Burton they are the stop motion people.

The rest I am less familiar with, but they all look good. Hell I didn’t even know about McHale even though I found Garden Wall fantastic.

What about John k and Ralph bakshi?

Not so familar with Bakshi, but I know his influence is big in theatrical adult animation.

As for John, ehhh…. He is hard to want to put on a list as he only developed like 6 episodes of Ren & Stimpy before being fired for his abusive shit. After that, pretty much all his works downgraded in quality. He was sort of a one-hit-wonder that barely held influence on most of that one hit. Plus again, giving credit to a massive abuser, pedophile, and man that wrote multiple hit pieces on animation is hard to justify. This is sort of why I also left out Butchy boy even though his creations, Fairly Odd Parents and Danny Phantom, were massive hits. It is questionable how much he really did for those things, along with him being a crazy ass.

Also, should add DNA Productions to the list if we are adding small studios. They were the first animation studio to build a CGI movie off publicly-accessible tools and Jimmy Neutron was easily the highest quality CGI series of its time given it used movie models. Jimmy also had continuity in a comedy series, something that took off more a decade past it. Enter was probably right in saying that Jimmy walked so that Nick would take the risk and allow Avatar to run.

Also, should we add Avatar’s creators to the list?

Thank god things like Smiling Friends exist. It's like an adult version of Gumball with all the different art styles and types of comedy it employs.

Smiling Friends kind of showed up and fucked off after dumping their whole season the way they did. It was good marketing but bad for the long term. Season 2 can't come soon enough.

Looks like "Rick and Morty" is about to abruptly end.

I rated you thunk-provoking but it's also given how much R&M brings in the spergbux. For fuck's sake both him and Harmon are terrible drunks and Roiland has made numerous creepy remarks about Summer and they're still there! Reminder that [AS] fired the voice of Earlie from Squidbillies (decent show, reminded me of early Aqua Teen) for saying shit about Dolly Parton and BuyLargeMansions. Time will tell if R&M does stop because of this but CN had one other show that had its creator ousted over sex shit and still kept going.

A thing I have a problem with in watching Western animation is that almost all of it is for children, or aimed at kidults under the auspices of being for children, and the content that's not for children and for actual adults is tasteless, either because it's bad comedy like Family Guy or because it's trying to be politically transgressive like the bisexual threesome in Castelvania. Everyone in the industry just seems to despise good taste, or can't resist the temptation to lower themselves to bad taste, or perhaps they're incapable of telling the two apart.

And that's before we get into how the industry has been wokefied.
