Disagree. when I watched this episode back then I didn't feel bad for what Helga did because she always does this shit when some other girl talks to Arnold.
In the episode Married, during Helga's dream sequence Lila was literally the only one who hadn't moved on even developing a childish infatuation with Arnold that lead her to an ultimate downfall. Even her subconscious, she has to be a petty and possessive jerk. She did it to Lila (more than once),
All of whom (including Inga) are older than Arnold and this would have no interest in him whatsoever. So again petty and possessive for nothing.she did it to Olga, she did it to Ruth, she did it to that one girl from the beach
Again, had no interest in Arnold what so ever Arnold was just being his usual nice self to her. Helga only had herself to blame for bringing Patty's wrath down on her, though I question if Patty let her off too easy with the whole faking a fight thing, but she did beat her up several times before in Lila's debut episode so I guess it evens out.and she did it to Patty.
Eh to each his own. That's how I remember feeling as a kid (should have said I not we) Now I'm honestly amazed Barlett and his team were able to make a character so hateable but at the same time sympahtic too. You want to see her suffer consequences for being a petty, arrogant, self centered jerk, but at the same time you feel sorry for her having such lousy parents and anger issues out the wazoo.Helga is a possessive bitch and it would've been unbearable if she got away with it. Thankfully she never did in each of these instances. She was rightfully told she was being mean or felt guilty about it later. Cherry on top? She couldn't undo what she did. She was left to stew in it like the ending to "The Graduate".
Helga is right next to Zuko of memorable characters modern day writers wish to make but miss the fucking point.
You hit the nail on the head comparing her to Zuko, Nobody knows how to write Characters like them anymore.
