Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

It's right around after the 1st movie aired in theaters that the show decided to go down south, and i firmly believe it decided to just copy "Ren & Stimpy" (which is a bit ironic since I think a few people from Spumco/Games went to work on Spongebob) but completely forgets what made R&S popular in the first place. Instead you have Spongebob and Patrick being the "Stimpy" (loveable retards that get constantly mocked for being retarded), while Squidward is totally the Ren (prick who get's the shit kicked out of him constantly, hence the "Squidward Torture Porn").

The show went from "sea creatures having cooky adventures in the sea" to "sitcom #83278323 in which we can try to push the envlope as much as possible without getting canceled"
Basically this happened because Hillenburg wanted the movie to be the finale, while Nickelodeon wanted to keep the series going, so he pretty much left the show. As a result they started going the Ren and Stimpy direction, I think they hired writers from that show too, and it slowly got worse over time. When Hillenburg came back for Season 9, there were a couple of standout episodes, and the 2nd movie was pretty decent, but after that, starting with Season 10, it just turned into ADHD bright lights and flashing colors to keep toddlers' attention. I think the better writers slowly left the series over the years too, you can kind of tell when you watch seasons 4-9 and see less and less memorable quotes and clever jokes, and less comedic timing as it goes on.

Has anyone seen the new show Scavengers Reign?
This quote is from a few months ago, but I just watched this and it’s amazing. I don’t understand why everything has to be dogshit cheap CG nowadays when there are still studios capable of putting out great actual animation like this.

It was because by the early-2000s, CG became a huge norm over hand-drawn animation and almost every theatrically released animated studio had to migrate to CG by the mid-2000s
I think it was heavily Disney that was responsible for the trend. Traditional 2D animation was kind of what they were known for, but they started doing 3D CGI movies because they were cheaper to pump out. Then they bought Pixar, fired John Lasseter, and now they have 2 animated movie divisions that pump out basically the same garbage, and you can't tell them apart. The rest of the industry slowly followed suit.

Which was weird considering prior to and even after the Pixar buyout, Ratatouille, WALL-E and Up were still in production and they still turned out great. Afterwards, it's all downhill.

Didn't Disney follow DreamWorks though? DreamWorks did 2D and CGI movies at the same time but then the 2D movies started underperforming and that seemed to be the notion that 2D was no longer profitable for the industry going forward.

Bros, they adding the Boss Baby to this, can Illumination get more creatively bankrupt?
This trailer feels like a mash-up between Shrek series and The Incredibles. A movie for parents to put on to distract their hyperactive kids. Also the memes and product placement felt force, but I take that's normal for the Minions?

Oh come on, Boss Baby wasn't the first to be the talking baby. It could be either Tommy Pickles, Baby Herman or Stewie Griffin.

But yes, it's typical Illumination, It's dogshit, but it will make money due to marketing (except for Migration, for some odd reason).

I think Migration didn't make money, because people thought the movie would come out in 2024 and not 2023.
Oh, the internet is gonna burn today…

Eh, it's just a side character, nothing wrong with that. Now, if they made the main character Hiccup black...I will curse the heavens above!
Currently living under a rock, who is Bronwyn James?
Tranny, I think?

Everyone is so fucking ugly. Yeah, the Vikings aren't beauties and the characters weren't super-models at all, but still, everyone is ugly.

So the twins who are supposed to look very identical to each other (hence their identical, twin-headed dragon) look nothing alike now. Also some of them look like anti-drug mugshots, like, jeez that last one. Is that a kid or a 40 year old meth-head?

I also keep forgetting to share an adult stop motion movie I stumbled across when trying to find something new to watch a while ago. Chuck Steel: Night of the Trampires. Came out a few years back, and it was entertaining. Pokes fun at a lot of things that are common now, like the removal of the police for everyone being friends/talking stuff out instead,
