Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Has anyone else told them that the people paying them for this crap are the ones responsible for why the climate is so fucked?

Everyone talks about another video game crash happening soon, but are we on the horizon of a complete entertainment crash?
No one wants to work for companies having to sell away their ideas for them to keep anymore, endless shit reboots from HollyJewd, canned shows left and right once it proves to be unviable for profit in the first season (no thanks to any merch produced for fans of these shows). It really seems like being an actual artist (to businessmen at least) isn't economically viable anymore and the only way forward really is to go indie or stick with the online crowd.

I agree. Say, SpongeBob and The Powerpuff girls are billion dollar franchises. Who wants to bet, the OG creators never saw even a fraction of that money? Maybe some small royalties if they were lucky.

Point is, if you have a billion dollar idea like them, you would need to be crazy to just give it away to a big corporation.

Going indie is a huge risk, and there's no job security. But at least if you go big, you can actually get some of the money instead of breadcrumbs.

Would-be talented and creative people should note that indie works are somewhat of the future, even if there are flaws, there are some good perks there. If by any chance they do happen to pitch an idea for a big corpo, they're gonna be shit out of luck, so they could either continue to be wagecucks by continuing to work at a place they hate being a part of or they could gamble their money by winning the lottery

Ren also is given a title of torturer yet there are no creative or funny torture sequences which the old Ren and Stimpy would take advantage of, instead its just Ren whipping people while Stimpy begs Ren to come to Heaven.
Saints alive...even the simpsons in their zombie era did that concept better. When bart in a treehouse of horror segment went to a hell version of school. He actually took advantage of being able to torture people, and came up with ideas for punishment that were actually creative.

.how the fuck does the simpsons, in their rotten age age and with only 7 minutes as opposed to 11 manage to be a better hell story than a reboot of the quintessential cartoon of the 90s?

I’m watching Courage the Cowardly Dog for the first time. 4 eps in and I’m getting some good laughs out of it.

Again, this explains a lot about the R&S reboot.

Amazing, they hired literal nobodies, who've written for junk most people never heard of.
Because that’s what Ren and Stimpy was all about, seven non-cartoonist minded writers who wish to play it safe.

I salute those who were able to sit through the leaked eps. You are stronger than me!

Because Nickelodeon literally has nothing else. Anything past 2005 (besides The Loud House) was screwed over by the company and has no audience to milk for nostalgia.

All of their live-action shows are now tainted due to the increasing exposure of Dan and his pedo buddies.

SpongeBob is ongoing, The Loud House is ongoing, Avatar has multiple projects, Rugrats was brought back only to flop, Fairly Odd Parents will be brought back, (Invader Zim, Hey Arnold, and Rocko's Modern Life) got revival movies, and Danny Phantom is likely to be getting a live action film. There are very few shows they can bring back at this point, especially given that they sold Doug and (Jimmy Neutron and My Life as A Teenage Robot) may have rights issues.

Due to the company's shitty behavior and the general state of animation, no one wants to work for them to create an original.

Also, before hearing about how Ren & Stimpy won’t be on Nick, their parent company, Paramount, have literally nothing as well.
The past is like a broken mirror. Try to piece it back together and you only end up hurting yourself even if you manage to finish it your reflection becomes distorted and nothing like it was when the mirror was new.

But wasn't Ren and Stimpy also made by a pedo creep? You'd think that be a good reason to leave it in the past as well.
Johnny boy made one show for them amd it went on without him for years. Dan get in the van made shows that got nick through two decades before finally being forced to leave in disgrace. Lot harder to shake the stigma off his work than it is ren and stimpy.

The scale of the acts is also vastly different.

John K was one guy who was kicked off early and had only one known relationship with a minor from what I recall, of which he “mostly” kept to his personal life.

Dan and co are multiple pedos who committed acts practically onset with Nick’s own stars. Not only that, but numerous people, up to the president of the company, were involved in his operations. Dan’s acts don’t just reflect poorly on him, but the entirety of Nickelodeon’s management. By comparison, John K at least leaves a lot of room for plausible deniability as to Nick fully knowing what was happening, especially given how short his time at the company was.

I watching the grim adventures of Billy and Mandy(Kino by the way), and apparently Guy Moon did the music for season 1 which makes it sound like a deranged FOP
As a kid, I used to get confused with the two and thought it was the same show at first. Billy & Mandy actually does have somewhat of an Invader Zim and Courage the Cowardly Dog vibe
Honestly a crash of western animation is a long time coming and having all those animators go on strike is for the better considering the sorry state of western animation at the moment
It was just the same back in the early-to-mid-80s and it still repeats itself right now. See also this:

Nobody is forcing American "adult" animation studios to continually pump out ever-shittier animated sitcoms and "shock" comedies, which invariably just end up being Family Guy and Rick and Morty epigones, or shows about badly drawn anthropomorphic animals finding it hard to "adult" as they work in retail, watched (and logrolled) by no one besides the creator's online friends and butt-kissing Extremely Online clique members, and written by the sort of hack LA writers who think putting in references to how difficult LA traffic can be is hilarious. Or soulless reboots of preexisting IPs that nobody asked for by aforementioned LA hacks.

Consider the "Married...with Children" revival cartoon that was threatened back in '22. Teasers have been released.

Is every sitcom just going to be given the Family Guy clone treatment eventually? Nothing is safe from "stuck" culture. Much like how the leaked R&S reboot features Billy West sounding like he's recording his lines from hospice care, this features Ed O'Neill who is pushing 80, and his voice is especially bad. Again, who asks for these? I doubt there are very many Married…. With Children aficionados who were craving a bland, soulless animated sitcom version of the original. It even has that sort of generic Bojack Horseman/Rick & Morty adjacent modern ugly cartoon sitcom art style. It looks something a bit like a slightly uglier "F is for Family".
