Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Don’t get me started on bubble bass, man. That shit’s just weird.
Wasn't bubble bass just some fat guy who was a bit of food snob In the early days? Look i know things have changed a LOT since 1999 but what about bubble bass said he needed to be a parody of Doug walker and internet "critics." As a whole. AND a weeb with a waifu pillow?

Also why does THAT keep showing up in western animation? First that God awful jellystone, then spongebob of all things.

I think it's a desperate attempt to try and get hate watches from cartoon community autists, kind of like what TTGO does

So this has been making rounds on Twitter that CartoonNetwork Studios has shut down along with it's WB branch. CN as a channel still exist's but the home of everything that was made on CN from the 90's to now is gone. The Animation guild is trying to make it seem like this is because of jobs going overseas and greedy corporations ( which they are right about, but for the wrong reasons ) and they are trying to stop this from happening but have spent the last 10 years moaning and groaning about DEI shit.

Bro, they really love those ass gags with bubble bass, I don’t know what’s up with them.

The official trailer for Disney's Primos is finally out.
Disney TVA aren't sending their best folks. We ought to deport them back to production hell and make them pay for it.

You know, for a being a group of people that at least on average love to winch about how earlier generations sold the future I can say with full confidence that the wave of animators that came from AT and GF truly buried the prospects of people that just graduated or are still in art school. Maybe the suits put us on a hole but we sure kept digging. I've said this before, if you want to animate for real work in advertisement and if you have a pilot idea make it into a comic, self publish and build a following online because you have a better shot at being picked that grinding your best years for daddy's little DaVinci making a cartoon that is a just a supplement to going to therapy. The only way I would respect the animation and voice acting industries even less would be if they funneled cartel money.

No, people have noticed the fetishes, especially after the cuck episode:
Then there was something narwhal this way cones. Narleen narwhal was already hated having been a character who was originally from the hated Kamp koral spinning off but the episode that tried to integrate her into the show well...I don't know if it's different for others but these videos were side by side and 8 results down after searching spongebob narleen narwhal on YouTube.

Plus I think narleen has an entry on wiki feet...this show essentially became another nickelodeon fetish factory after Stephen died.
I've noticed the fetishes for a while, especially all the scenes involving adults in diapers...

There was even a whole episode of The Patrick Star Show dedicated to it...

Da faq? I thought degenerates who can't keep their fetishes out of their work were being kicked out of these industries. Or at the very least getting told to tone it down after things like quiet on set make a lot of these jokes in older eps/shows a lot harder to stomach in hindsight.

Maybe if the Animation Guild spent more time fighting to stop shipping jobs overseas and less on forcing DIE into shows while raising union fees this wouldn't have happened!

It's funny these "animation workers" (an irritating term) are moaning about outsourcing jobs when it was apparently decided years ago outsourcing actual animation production to Korea, etc. was OK while domestic production infrastructure collapsed and shrank, to the point where American "animation workers" often have scenes in their shows making "jokes" about how their shows are mostly animated overseas in sweatshop studios, because they've accepted it as a fact of the business. If you have the nerve to ask why it has to be like that, why is outsourcing is necessary and why can't domestic production be rebuilt, certain people in the industry will act like you're a racist who just started reading out loud from a KKK tract.

All it needs to do is reference things you remember
I noticed that from what little I've seen, they've been giving more focus on side characters that were basically one-offs from the earlier seasons to say "Hey, remember this?" to an audience that doesn't.
It's weird though, because the stuff they're doing with him doesn't really...fit the guy? He was a snobby, fat food critic, not a neckbeard on the internet, it's really weird whenever the new seasons get so "modern" and specific when even those shitty-ass mid-seasons felt relatively timeless from what I recall. In between this, the spinoffs immediately being made, and the fetish stuff, it feels like Nick just grabbed the first chance they could to make Spongebob fully their own thing once Hillenberg died, because the most recent episodes are a toss up between nostalgia pandering or feeling like an entirely different show. Like, the animation style and sense of humor just feel entirely different, sometimes not even bad, but just not something you'd think "Yeah, that's a joke from Spongebob".

I can't exactly describe why, but the show just doesn't feel like "SpongeBob" anymore. Even at its previous lowest, during seasons 6-8, the show still felt decidedly like it was still "SpongeBob" in spite of the gross-out/shock humor. Some of what I've noticed contributes to it is a much more ADHD animation style, where it feels like there has to be something bouncing around, or flashing colors, and loud noises, all the time (like Teen Titans Go).

There's never anything like the early seasons anymore where they just paused everything with a simple sound effect to let a joke land, like in "Shanghaied" with the "I'm getting to the bottom of this thing!" "Wouldn't that be the top?" bit. The "jokes" themselves aren't even jokes, there's minimal attempts at any kind of actual humor, they've returned to gross-out and shock content, but now it's not even trying to be funny, just attention-grabbing.

Then there's also the "stunt casting" as it's called, where they bring in actors just because they're famous, rather than a good fit for the show. They brought in famous actors all the time back in the day, like Pat Morita (Karate Kid's Mr. Miyagi) as Master Udon in Karate Island, or Thomas F. Wilson (Back to the Future's Biff) as the bouncer at the Salty Spitoon, but they fit the show's tone really well. You typically wouldn't know that these were special guest actors because they fit into the show so well. Now the show frequently uses voice actors that sound completely out of place, with the 3rd movie being a serious offender. While Matt Berry is great (he was in the second movie too), the movie also has voice actors like Awkwafina and Tiffany Haddish who sound completely out of place.

I had this theory that Vincent Waller might be the one inserting these type of weird jokes in, since he's the current showrunner alongside Marc Ceccarelli

And weirdly enough... one of the only episodes of Ren and Stimpy that was entirely Written, Directed and Storyboarded by him was the Big Baby Scam episode.

And it makes you wonder if this is some sort of weird fucked up fetish of his, or if it's just unintentional...

He was also the voice for the Tattletale Strangler.
Yeah, he's voiced a bunch of minor characters in the show. He was in the first movie too. Hell, David Bowie was a major character in Atlantis SquarePantis, and you wouldn't even know it. Adam West & Burt Ward voiced a young Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy alongside Ernest Borgnine & Tim Conway's elderly ones in an episode, and it fit pretty well.

What can be seen as a joke done because it's seen as funny in one era. (Ex. Grown people in diapers, men in dresses, obsessions with feet and or shoes) can only be seen as a repressed desire to express sexual fetishes the next.

I've heard that even as far back as the golden age, animators and cartoonists were putting some hint as to what tickles them pink in their work. Difference is they knew how to do it with tact, and make it actually funny BEFORE it got you thinking about the hidden depths.
