It's interesting how most people don't care about Ringo Starr's contribution to the Beatles, yet he's seen as an icon among Thomas the Tank Engine fans.
I don't really know the difference beyond "ringo or carlin" but I want to make sure all the pissy british passive-aggressive loathing is there, I dunno if it's in the USA version

New indie pilot cast just dropped.
Most of the actors have resumes you've come to expect from the indie scene. There's Allanah Fitzgerald (Murder Drones and The Gaslight District), AJ Michalka (Steven Universe and She-Ra), Lizzie Freeman (SMG4 and The Amazing Digital Circus), Matt Mercer (Critical Role/Vox Machima), and Amanda Hufford (also on The Amazing Digital Circus).

Looks like a standard fantasy story either way.

The art-style their using is tipping some red flags, but then again, it could be decent.
Also, the fact that there's no actual animation yet, and it's just the VAs and everyone else is giving me some High Guardian Spice-energy. I hope I'm wrong, though.

Decent cast.

If you remove Apu, what other notable Indian representation do you have in modern media?
They will still bitch, but The Big Bang Theory had that nerdy Indian guy, so did Community. Sadly, these are also playing into harmful stereotypes according to internet warriors.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Disney’s Jessie both used the same Indian child actor, Karan Brar. He went to star in a bunch of Disney Channel series.

Phineas and Ferb has Baljeet, and Camp Lazlo had Raj, to keep things on the subject of cartoons.

Marvel tried in Eternals to have a mainstream Indian. They also tried in Spider-Verse.

Technically, one could say Raven (and also Jinx) from Teen Titans as she was initially modeled after an Indian women in the same vein as Starfire being modeled after a Puerto Rican, though this is a stretch nowadays.

If we are going off internet, like your paragraph, there is Dhar Man and his amazing videos that tell such real, impactful tales.

The problem with India is that no matter what you do, you will never win. The nerd stereotype is harmful, the Apu stereotype is harmful, Bollywood influence is pandering, etc.. Even Dhar Man, a literal Jeet, cannot escape the stereotyping as he goes all in on the nerd Indian.

It really does feel like High Guardian Spice with the style, as well as the princess’ and Theo’s designs. Hard pass.

I'm rewatching Little Bear with my toddler. Oh man, I love this show. It still holds up. Everyone talks so respectfully and there's no overexplaining. As an adult, I now really understand the adult characters. It's up to the audience to figure out the moral if there is any, but most of the time it's SOL. The late 19th century setting is so dang cozy too. Every character has their quirks and everyone appreciates each other. Duck makes me lol.

Little Bear and his parents eat soup all the gosh dang time and it makes me want soup.
Update. Unfortunately, I'm in season 3 and Mitzi is FUCKING annoying. But my toddler likes her. She loves saying "ooh ooh ahh ahh" and laughs when Mitzi swings from the trees. Can't believe what INFERIOR taste she has. Smh.

See, I knew it reminded me of something, but I couldn't name it for the life of me.

Brains was from India in the Thunderbirds Are Go cg/miniatures thing from WETA
he's still a putz but he doesn't stammer like OG Brains

ngl I could use some recs at large for kiddie shit
pretty sure I've got Little Bear, Spot, Kipper, Pingu, Ringo Thomas, was surprised to find out Garfield and Friends ran eight years, I thought it started more in the mid eighties but apparently it was 82
I've been going full Lawnmower Man on tubi and archive.org so far

I’ve got some recommendations that I was putting together for my brother, since I know he wants kids someday but doesn’t want iPad babies. Forgive me if there’s some repeats from other people in here.

Maggie and the Ferocious Beast
Oswald (Grannie loved that octopus)
Clifford the Big Red Dog (Toddler Snowfall loved that dog)
Wonder Pets
Miss Spider’s Sunnypatch Friends
Charlie and Lola
Ruby Gloom
I know it’s live action, but LazyTown was also so damn good

There’s probably more that I’ll eventually remember or dig up from my childhood.

The TV show equivalent of the color beige.

Pan's new video is fascinating to me look at how unappealing most of these failed pilots are. No wonder they didn't get picked up what kid wants to watch that shitty Important House show it's so fucking ugly.

Mina And the Count probably would've been kino, but most of these pilots got what they deserved by being forgotten immediately.
Planet Kate also looked cool but he spent like 30 seconds talking about a ten minute pilot, so I have no idea what to make of it.

Honestly I feel like the fact that I even recognize all these names should probably disqualify it from counting as indie.

Siren and Lockboy could've been great if they didn't make half of it some kind of 00's "American Idiot" pop musical. :lossmanjack: I don't know if it's supposed to characterize Lockboy, make his scenes more "him" or what, but it clashes with everything else.

It forever pains me to know crunchy roll went from a site you could pirate anime on to total sellout who made hgs...but to move on to lighter recommendations....and topics.

Berenstain bears both the 80s and 2000s versions. You can't go wrong with them, and while I know you said "no iPad kids" episodes of both versions are plentiful on youtube.

See the problem isn't the device itself it's the way parents just let their kids have one then just let them do whatever they want with it. It's the 21st century equivalent to how millienials were plopped in front of the TV and the DVD player. You need to supervise what your kids watch.

Yeah, I kinda forgot about that. Probably should have been more specific and said “no brainrot”. I’ve heard plenty about how Cocomelon is basically junk food for the developing mind. And the less said about YouTube kids the better, especially with foreign channels pumping out those weird gory, fetishy AI cat cartoons. IYKYK.

New trailer for the Avatar fighting game dropped:

It will be $30 and have 12 playable fighters. Korra really got the short end of the stick with only 2 characters being playable.
IMG_0276.png

Above only shows 10 characters, so there are two hidden, plus 5 DLC. My guess is Tenzin and Asami would be in base as, Korra does deserve to have something? DLC will likely have Suki, since they choose Kyoshi for some reason. My hope would be Mai is also playable, but she is in a background.

one of my favorite pre-cow and chicken things from david feiss was his music video for george thorogood's get a haircut
sad thing is, is that the music video is in fucking 480p and looks kinda garbage in low quality
i also think another neat anecdote from david feiss pre-cow and chicken was the last pink panther short: Driving Mr Pink.
Basically (and this is some guessing on my part) this was the first ever animation for the 1993 series (however it was shelved till 1995 to play in theaters for the maligned don bluth movie: The Pebble And The Penguin and then later on the tv show for the final second season episode). Now why am i guessing that this was animated first? This has a lot more money pumped out than the tv show did, add onto the fact it has a lot of people who were from the mgm feature animation division (Paul Sabella: At the time was directing All Dogs Go To Heaven 2, David Feiss: storyboard artist, character designer and animation director for All Dogs 2, Deane Taylor: art director for all dogs 2, and most of the producers for all dogs 2 were involved in this short.) ]
The only people that weren't involved with said stuff from the feature animation division of mgm/ua at the time were friz freleng, david h depatie, and the mirisch brothers.
However a neat little fact that connects this to cow and chicken (other than david feiss and deane taylor working on this) is that dan castellaneta plays voodoo man and later on he would play earl in cow and chicken

Ah yes, all my favourite avatar characters!
The fire lord, azula, sokka, toph, aang, korra, katara, zuko, some.... bald guy? (I only watched the first 2 seasons of korra like many others have but was that seriously the best non-korra korra character you could put on the big character announcement?), and kyoshi!
