I don't mind different styles for anthropomorphism, the Blacksad one is not a great representation of the rest of the comic, as the other anthros look perfectly fine, its just the cats can look a bit odd.

And the first one is from a comedy manga that I think is focused more on the ecchi side of things, so goes the lazy route of 'cute girls with animal ears'. Especially since the MC hates animals, so would never find the more anthro styled girls attractive (would not allow for the harem that the manga goes for).
Basically, unless its looks like the CATS movie, its not too bad. That was a scar to the brain.

The weirdly human female animals in that anime are just standard anime cat girls. Literally all the females, save the koala?, look like human females and its weird because the show does real animal facts as well. Even the joke about the female hyena thinking she's a boy because of her futa cock falls flat because she looks like every other female member of their species.
I know they just look like that as fap material for non fur fuckers, but its so lazy. At least the kennmo friends cast all have clothing that matches their species in a unique way, while being "human".

Im no furry but if you want to play the uwu cat girl game then i feel like Aisha Clan-Clan from outlaw star would be better a better fit then Tokyo mewmew no 700

I wasn't able to find a good picture, but Robert Aspirn's Myth series dating back to 1978 is an example of this sort of sexual dimorphism, although it's in the service of a pun in this case. Two important characters are Tananda and her brother Chumley, both trolls. Chumley is a big hairy sharp-toothed monster; his sister is a beautiful green-haired but otherwise human-looking woman. A female troll is a trollop, you see.

That video was talking about silhouettes when they proposed that redesign right? While I personally prefer the more angular look I think they should have kept the tentacle hair visible via silhouette. To me it was one of the most striking features of the original and helps cement her as a non-human water creature, something not as readily apparent in the redesign. Also while the middle of the left is way too busy to easily read I do think the tail on the right needs to be raised a bit, it seems it starts too low and it begs the question of where it's coming from.
To me the best thing the redesign does is cement pirate as her main theme. The original has a lot of different ideas and the tribal/sea creature/pirate vibe is a little cluttered.

Im glad he ditched the tatoos. As someone who was into learning animation( academically pursued then stopped), redrawing others busy designs was hell because you have to get every little detail thousands of times. (take a Ghibli character face n hair vs a modern anime cgi monstrosity,)

Maybe im just a lazy bastard but I like simple designs and prefer expressive movement and environments. With a month limit and two man team, I feel like you can do more with a simple blue ball bouncing through a dead city (focus on environment, color, gravity ect) then a hand animation of a gundam walking with shine and all that. Unless you are really good

As far as who to follow, look into folks who actually work in the industry. Most are not free tho.

These two are supposed to be half demon, I was expecting a design that at least included dog ears. Maybe we'll learn more about why they look the way they do when the show finally airs, but I was disappointed when I first saw them. Moroha is adorable, though.
