What are you guy's thoughts on the new velma series that just dropped?

Where's the dog?

Then I saw the court room scene where Velma testified that Fred is so stupid, he can't even feed himself and then Fred demonstrated this. I have been around severely retarded children that can feed themselves, so I don't even know what they were trying to convey with this. Is Fred a pampered rich kid that can't fend for himself. Well, pampered rich people are actually super capable of feeding themselves with additional rules and manners. Its actually an annoying trait they have. Are they trying to say Fred is retarded, because if they are, isn't that wildly offensive in current year (which feels more like an eon than a year but hey). Regardless of whatever point they are making, the scene was remarkably unfunny. There are ways to convey stupidity that are funny and this wasn't it.
I wanted to write about that, but then it his me - This is Poo in the Loo coping.

Think about it, Indians eat with their right hand and wipe their ass with the other, while white people used cutlery for the last millennias. The creator is seething under her inferiority complex so hard she had to write a white person who ate like an Indian to feel better.

Almost every Adult Cartoon Sitcom writer these days is a narcissistic annoying asshole who writes the whole show around themselves most of the time. Everyone hates Velma cause Mindy Kaling is the Indian Amy Schumer. So many of these writers just wanna jerk off to their high school years.

As if they're somehow retroactively trying to stick it to that whole time period and get some sense of self satisfaction cause now they're "successful" and those people who they still have grudges against aren't. A lot of people who worked on cartoons used to have to actually like cartoons first. They had passion for animation as a medium and had ideas for jokes or good characters etc. A lot of the old [AS} stuff that was built around old H-B properties was a hit cause people working on it were passionate and making the most of what they could get with a small budget and cheap Hanna-Barbera assets and characters.

So I know that I'm not the only person here to get the overwhelming impression Velma was someone's idea for an original series that got Scooby Doo characters slapped on top of it, I'm 99% positive Kaling wrote a lopse murder mystery script that she took "inspiration" from her high school life and/or her simmering rage at whatever white ex-bf dumped her that she still pines for and/or etc. and then the network execs were like "no one will like this but if we make it a Scooby-Doo thing people will be offended and look at it still" and gathered the usual hacks to work on the project.

I mean, Harvey Birdman, Sealab 2021 were funny. if the Velma show had been funny this wouldn't have happened, if it hadn't been written by a bunch of LA-style hacks. There's a big difference between using humor as a vehicle to show (the ironic Gen X version of) appreciation for a property VS stomping on something you don't particularly care for while yelling 'ITS A JOKE! WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM?!? IT'S JUST A JOKE!'

I don't think Mindy Pajeetling was ever that funny/good a writer/comedian. Velma isn't an exception to her record, I think its more faithful to who she really is. In hindsight, you could probably see a lot of the red flags in her previous work. I clocked HBO Velma basically being Kelly Kapoor (The Office) right away for example.

And anyone with working eyes could see this dumpster fire when the trailer first dropped. Actually no, when Pajeet Mindy Kaling was cast to voice her. There was never any way this wouldn't be a self-insert project for her. From the edgy humour to attempts at trying to be "modern" and inserting "social commentary" falling flat. It's a shame because Mystery Incorporated will remain the gold standard imo for a more "mature" Scooby-Doo show. Should've just made a continuation of that.

I didn't say I was surprised.

I don't even think she really believes it, she's just grifting to get money from the Jews studios.
It's kind of amusing to think she's embracing her Pajeet con artist heritage so well.
Speaking of her Pajeet roots, I thought it was weird that WBs representatives kept racebaiting us with articles in 2021 talking about how Velma would be "(East) Asian", despite casting a Pajeet to voice her. This was obviously going to be a vanity project so she would never allow Velma to be a Ching Chong and not the strong Brown woman that Mindy wants to portray herself as. When the trailer first dropped I remembered people accusing Velma of being blackwashed. But Kaling or someone on the production team had to clarify that Velma Kaling was a Brown woman, not black and still "Asian", just South Asian not East Asian like all those articles made us believe.

My only guess is that the articles were baiting people because American connotations of "Asians" refers to East Asians and not South Asians.

There are many political people making overly complicated theories and assumptions on this show. Especially from the kind of people who usually support this kind of stuff.

However it's not complicated, there is not secret plot against the woke in hollywood. This is simply made for BlackRock investors and ESG scores in mind. It's the future and culture you choosed.

She's a fat, unmarried 43-year-old Pajeet-American single mom with two kids that appear to be half white. She's just having a bitchfit on account of being ABSOLUTELY COLONIZED.

I absolutely love how Hollywood raceswaps
characters to be black, and then make them a walking stereotype.

Like how in the Artemis Fowl, they made the butler black. And they did the same thing here with Norville and drugs. They also made him a simp and emasculated, which is another running theme in black men in entertainment.

Really, though, this is the only Scooby Doo parody that matters, instead of a "snarky" SD parody that could otherwise be indistinguishable from any other Edgy Adult Cartoon Sitcom.

I refer of course to this bit from Bakshi and his gang's New Adventures of Mighty Mouse, a ruthless mockery of the 70s Scooby Doo formula they used for more shows about mystery solving goofs and their anthropomorphic whatever-pal. For a childern's cartoon in the 1980s, the detail in the recreation of bad animation on purpose is more sophisticated than you'd expect (like how the characters go from their stock-style running animation to their standing-around pose straight from the character model sheets).

This. I've been seeing too many people try to claim that this show is a secret anti-woke jab at Hollywood since the first trailer dropped because it had the lesbo pajeet Velma ironically hate on another character getting race swaped despite that it was obviously being used to poke fun at the critics of the show's announcement. And even if that was the creator's "subtle intent" at mocking Hollywood, it doesn't stop this show from looking and sounding like crap or failing to get its supposed message across (whatever its supposed to be).

All in all, Hanna-Barbera produced a lot of mediocre mystery gang and Yogi rehashes alongside their gems, but Bill & Joe don't deserve to have their legacy be shat on this ferociously with these current year abominations.

It's so bad it makes scrappy doo look like solid gold in comparison. Only plus is that it made me binge a lot of older scooby doo montages, I loved a lot of these songs.

One good thing about all of this current year Hollywood rehashes is that its making even the most meh media of the past look better by comparison.

So this is real and not just a meme that is going around. How unfortunate. Is there any chance that the creators are merely accelerationists trying to hasten peak Woke on the population so it can finally unwind? No? Oh well.

So I've not watched this but even from the stills how can such a simple cartoon style convey such depths of smug disdain on a character's face? And more to the point, and I genuinely want someone to tell me honestly, who is this for?

Because if it's for children it looks wildly off-key. I mean seeing things like "Crystal High" on the school and cockroaches having actual sex - that's not something that's going to appeal to kids. Or any kids it does I have serious questions for their parents. And for adults, it's, well, it's Scooby Doo. I mean you can enjoy Scooby Doo as an adult if it's something like the Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated cartoon which had a level of sophistication and dark, actual satire, unmatched in Scooby Doo franchises or frankly a lot of cartoons. But this just looks mostly dumb and with humour heavily focused around Twitter Identity politics. And teenagers have better things to do like having sex and doing stupid things. Seriously, who is this for?

Nobody will be discussing this by February, and it'll be forgotten by summertime.
To quote a certain chili connoiseur, it's all shock jock shit. These spoiled narcissists come along with inflated egos, make a shitty piece of media that exists solely to be offensive and to soapbox their supposed virtues, and then it's immediately forgotten about but they don't care because they're already rich and live in luxury. People forgot Santa Inc existed the month after it came out, and this show's gonna be the same story. Just like Santa Inc, even some leftists hate Velma. It's only here to offend 95% of the population and make money off an ignorant, hateful 5% before falling into obscurity, its main intent being a blend of cultural subversion and unchecked self-fellatio of those responsible for it.

I don't really give a single fuck about the show itself. It's not entertaining, i don't think that's any kind of priority for the creators, it's not interesting, since it just does what every other cartoon network show does nowadays, hell, it's probably not even the worst scooby doo has to offer, i don't know, i refuse to watch a second of it, because scooby doo has been a shambling corpse going on about 22 years now. I can already see on fucking wikipedia that they already have another fucking scooby doo show set for next fucking year. There is absolutely no reason to invest any amount of effort or care into this, at the end of the day it's just warner bros using hate marketing to try and sustain this rented mule of a franchise, because that's all they know how to do now.

Its shit and Mindy is a retard but I cant tell if its deliberately shit or if the writers were wholly unironic. It also reminds me of the leaks from the potential live action powerpuff girls and it read like some coomer tranny wrote it.

Maybe its deliberately bad maybe it isnt but I havent seen a single site talking positively about it which is heartwarming in a way.
