What are you playing right now?

playing a gamecube JRPG called Baten Kaitos.

so far, its interesting. i like they did not do the hole "main character has amnesia" stick and instead, made you (the player), have sort of amnesia and the mc has to guide you.

Someone I know finally got a PS5, so they gave me their PS4. Due to that, I've finally been able to start playing Marvel's Spider-Man.

The pacing, structure, and writing for it is great... up until you defeat Mister Negative. After that, though, holy fuck does everything go to shit. Otto, who they had been building up pretty well, suddenly goes from frustrated scientist to supervillain in the span of nearly a single cutscene. I also find MJ kinda annoying. She's not unbearable or even particularly badly written but her conflicts with Peter always feel forced and artificial. Like, yeah, your (ex-)boyfriend is going to get worried when you sneak into heavily guarded criminal hideouts; stop acting like his worries are unreasonable.

That aside, I'd say it's pretty much just a better polished and higher budget version of the 2012 Amazing Spider-Man game.
I talked about this in the Videogame Chat Thread but this is probably the more pertinent thread for it.

I'm not even sure if I'll finish it, let alone play the DLC. It's devolved into a complete combat slog and I'm not a huge fan of the game's combat system so it's become a chore to play. I got Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut coming tomorrow, so I'll probably start playing that instead and take a long break from Spider-Man.

Xenia's Ark.

It's honestly rather meh, but I'll give it a while longer and see.

Edit to expand a bit, because that was a lazypost:

It's not that it's bad, and it has an intriguing enough concept - sort of a combination of Civ and MOO2 with both planetary and interstellar empire building - but it's just lackluster in a "seen it a million times already" sort of way.

Maybe it'll grow on me. Maybe the devs will improve it massively in the coming weeks.

I'm surprised there is no Fear and Hunger thread. I've had it in my backlog for a couple months but /v/ has been obsessing about it so much this week that I fired it up and also watched a bunch of videos on it.

I can definitely see why people are raving about it, it's definitely a hardcore horror game. And here I was thinking that RPG Maker was for porn and other z list efforts.

Went out and bought Fear & Hunger based on this alone. Thanks Tux.
Beyond that, I've gone ahead and started Atelier Iris 2, immediately after finishing its predecessor. Mountains of QoL changes have made the combat MUCH better this time around, however they've also gone and sucked all of the fun out of the Alchemy part of the game. No shop synthesis, have to manually switch to a specific character to do any alchemy (beyond mana synthesis), no more funny property reviews... It's so soulless. Sovlless, even. Here's hoping Iris 3 isn't so bad...

Been playing Xenonauts again, with the X-Division mod. Its like Classic Xcom, in the cold war, and then slap on a whole bunch of "fuck you" russian modding content atop of it. Other than that, been playing Songs of Syx and a bit of HighFleet when the craving strikes - Still getting a hang of that one.

Recently discovered a game called Fight Crab.

How I didn't know about this, I have no idea. It is glorious.

I've been busy AF lately, so sorry for the late response, but, I finished Phoenotopia a while back, and honestly? If you like Metroidvanias/Souls-like games, Phoenotopia: Awakening is a MUST-PLAY. Story's decent enough to carry you through to the end (with a sequel hook at the end that, given that the game didn't do so hot, will probably be a little while before we get to it, if at all), but the GAMEPLAY is really where it's at. Like I said, it's hard as shit, but the good kind of hard, like Zelda II and the earlier Castlevanias, where the satisfaction you feel upon beating a difficult boss/section is downright orgasmic. Highly recommended.

YOOOOOOOO LET'S GOOOOOO! Battle Master Zero and its sequel are legit great, so to see a third entry on the way is a bright spot in this so far dreary ass year. Cannot wait for July!
Also got a chance to complete Blaster Master Zero 3 recently. A great capstone to the trilogy. Inti Creates should honestly stop here. I feel like they've done everything they can with the Blaster Master franchise to make it fresh and interesting.

Currently playing through X3: Farnham's Legacy

The main game plot before the universe opens up is kind of terrible, but playable. Everything about it is obtuse as hell, but I'm deriving some sort of sick pleasure from micromanaging my factories and making loads of credits.

For the past week or so, been playing Dust to the End.

It's surprisingly addictive, if you're into trade caravans and mutants. Art work's nice, too, and, best of all, there's no wiki for it so I've been forced to play by trial and error! Been a long time since that's happened.

Edit to add the link, for anyone intrigued by my shitty description. Sadly not on GOG, which is hugely annoying.
