I got Dark Souls for Christmas and just can't get the hang of it. I've died countless times and I'm only at Undead Burg (btw, I'm a Wanderer with the Master Key as my gift since I heard those are the easiest to start with). It's probably because I'm so used to hack-'n-slashers. But yeah, I haven't had any motivation to pick it back up since my last rage quit. *SIGH*

Part of the appeal of Dark Souls is pushing past the hard parts and finding a way through them. I didn't get all that invested in the game til I beat the boss in the undead burg. When I did it was exhilarating because I came up with a strategy for doing it. Indeed the game teaches you how to play it through dying and uncovering weaknesses of enemies and bosses
 
I'm not good with objectively hard games, that's the problem, especially since this one doesn't have a difficulty setting. I've seriously considered selling Dark Souls because I feel I'm not cut out for it. And it sucks, because I really want to enjoy the game. There's pretty much no strategy for me aside from attempting to lure enemies out one by one, and even then they tend to hit faster than me. Plus, my best sword broke. I'm at the end of my rope.

There's a bonfire outside the merchant in the undead burg. What I would do is continuously kill the enemies and use the bonfire. Which respawns the enemies. Then when I had enough souls I'd buy equipment or level myself up
 
Nothing now, But I do want to finish Max Payne 3 tonight.
 
Europa Universalis IV. Playing as the trade republic of Novgorod, trying to hold off the Muscovites.
 
Going through Bioshock Infinite again. Really want to get Burial at Sea.
 
Discovered that I am sorely out of practice in FTL: Faster Than Light. I've made about five or six runs, and none of them have gotten past the first stage of the Flagship.

Also, I almost finished the Crystal Ship sidequest. I had the Crystal crewman, I was in the Rock Homeworlds...and I ran out of fuel and got butchered by marauding Rebels. :C

This also helps you get a bit better handle on the mechanics. I spent close to 6 hours without moving outside of the Undead burg just practicing, and about an hour and a half trying to fight the black knight alone. If you can get to manage your stamina pretty well and watch your enemy's moves, you'll be fine. Since I got out of the Burg, the game has gone along significantly easier since I'm starting to grasp the mechanics a bit. I'm playing kinda slow and very much defensively, and it seems to be working okay for me. I've just recently gotten up the talent to roll around and backstab people. I'm only about 18 hours in or so, though. I picked Cleric for the healing spell.

EDIT: Also! don't be wary about cheesing against big enemies. I've caught a few big guys on geometry and peppered them full of dozens of bolts until they died.
 
I can attest to the effectiveness of the previously mentioned strategies in dark souls. Really, all you need to learn is that defense is your best friend. Always have a shield out, always let the enemy attack first. You rarely (if ever) want to be the first one to strike. Best to let the enemy break his teeth on your shield before you go in and lay down a combo, aye?

If you're having loads of difficulty, you might want to start a hunter character. Get a bow and a spear-type weapon as your primary and secondary weapons. Luring enemies out gets a lot easier with the bow, and you can even snipe them before they get a chance to respond. If any of them manage to get to you, you can hide behind your shield and attack at the same time with spears and rapiers. You could probably just buy a bow from the merchant if you're using a wanderer already, they're good dex characters so you won't be losing many stats.

I should probably mention Demon Souls (The game they made prior to Dark Souls) plays very similarly, except it's loads easier. If your having trouble with Dark Souls and have a PS3. I recommend trying that game out. I didn't have to grind once during the game and it's a lot less focused on how often you die. A lot of boss animations and strategies are also reused in Dark Souls so when you return to the game it should feel a lot easier.
 
I'm doing totally blind playthroughs of Left 4 Dead 2 and Borderlands 2. Anyone want to play L4d2 with me? I've only done the first campaign so far. :D

At some point in the Sims 3 I made Chris and Barb along with 14 Branchland Ct, but playing the Chandlers was boring since all they do IRL is sit and mope around all day. But now I kind of want to start a fire at their house, via coffee machine or not, just to be an asshole. ]:(P

I'd play, but my internet is being pants-on-head retarded lately, and it probably wouldn't last through a whole campaign, let alone a single level.
 
Played some Armored Core 4 earlier. Would of played Half-Life 2 on my laptop but it's not charging. I think there is something wrong with the adapter port on my laptop which could mean I might either get it fixed or I may as well buy a new pc. Maybe later, I'll go back to playing some Dragon's Dogma.
