What game did you finish today?

Finished up Metal Arms: Glitch in the System on Hard mode a couple days ago. One of my favorite games from my childhood and still a solid game nearly twenty years later.

Looking back, it's clear they left a lot of threads hanging for a sequel and looking at the concept art for a bunch of the new stuff as well as that interview that summarized the sequel's plot, I can't help but feel a little sad. Can't help but imagine a sequel where the Droids, who are now more or less on equal footing with the Mils playing a much more active role in the sequels and fighting alongside Glitch. And maybe the sequels would have had you exploring other planets like in the bounty hunter game the original game was going to be at first.

The game clearly deserved better than what it got.

I finally completed playing through the entire three games of the Code: Realize series, definitely an amazing series and really good if you like visual novels. Next I will try Piofiore since it was announced that the sequel is coming out in English next year. Funny story about the game in that initially when I bought it, despite it being factory sealed, there was no Switch cartridge or bonus art cards that it was supposed to come with or anything so I had to return it, luckily the people at the store I bought it from were pretty nice and replaced it for me.

few days ago I 100% ocarina of time in a day(for the millionth time) on the switch virtual console. It had been several years since I played it and still loved it. I used to try to speed run it forever ago but could never get close to the top hundo runners. It made me nostalgic for zfg1 so I looked him up and.. he's still running OOT. The absolute madman. At least he has branched out into other games. Looks like he's been doing some metroid dread.

Finished Shadow Warrior (2013) and absolutely love every minute of it, the combination of shooter and close range sword combat was great, the story, humor, setting, the protagonist, the frenetic combat, the multi tier upgrade system all worked so well. What made this playthrough that much more significant though is that this is the first game I've fully played on a Linux PC through compatibility using Proton. What's more interesting to point out is that I tried to play the native Linux version of the game but the shadows were glitched so badly that it was unplayable, but the Windows version running through Proton worked flawlessly.

Necrobarista (2020), 3.5/10

A "visual novel" developed by Route 59 Games and written by an actual reddit NPC (Damon Reece) who uses they/them as preferred pronouns (he even specifies it in his linkedin bio first sentence, I don't know why I mention it, I thought it was pretty funny). Not a very good visual novel if you ask me, but apparently it won awards.

Just beat Bug Fables. Really great game overall. Good humour without sinking to self aware Reddit tier bullshit like many indie games do, very likable characters, simple story that's easy to get into, interesting lore. Only real gripe are the side quests. There's a lot, and most of them just aren't interesting. The majority are just plain jane fetch quests that have you running around finding stuff for people. Did about half, plus the party member back stories ones. Think that's enough for me.

Tales of Arise. Great game, questionable monetization practices (fuck micro transactions in general, let alone a single player game)
At least the combat in general was super good, and there's a decent chunk of post-game content, but it's too bad that ng+ is way too easy if you carry over stuff, even on the highest difficulty.

Astalon: Tears of the Earth

This was an extremely good game I was really pleasantly surprised by. Its another Metroidvania but it isn't completely lazy since it seems like they put a lot of thought into the design, its closer to La Mulana and Maze of Galius than anything else. Only issues I had with it were that some characters were just objectively better than the others and there wasn't much reason to use them outside of what they were required for, the difficulty stays consistent for the most part but gets far too easy by the end- especially the bosses, and there is quite a bit of back tracking through areas but that comes with the genre. Probably a 8-9/10 for me.
