I made the mistake of going to the grocery store hungry and walked out with this. Before I even get to the fucking BLM marketing associated with the product, lets discuss the taste.

Its revolting.

So imagine a slice of canned pineapple. Ok now imagine it turned into salt, and then a slight pepper taste. Its vile, I am sure someone out there like this but its basically like a tortilla candy.
Doritos Spicy Pineapple Jalapeno starts off with a jalapeno kick and finishes with a tangy pineapple flavor. Doritos Spicy Pineapple Jalapeno is now available for a limited time in stores nationwide and on snacks com.

Yeah its nothing like that. Its basically just salty, very sweet pineapple.

So the marketing, I didnt even notice until I looked at the back of the bag trying to figure out wtf the flavor was trying to be. Heres an excerpt from the website.

Meet The Artists Behind The Packaging

Our exclusive packaging for Doritos Spicy Pineapple Jalapeno was designed by Mz. Icar, an anonymous art collective comprised primarily of Black women. In the second year of our partnership, Mz. Icar centered their artwork around the concept of thriving, meaning to grow, prosper and flourish. To learn more about Mz. Icar and purchase their original artwork, visit their website.

Artist statement - “When we think of growth, we imagine nature's nurturing and feminine energy, providing ease and incubation to foster strong roots and supportive environments. We channeled these concepts into this piece and offer it as a hope for the present and future.”

They taste like shit and the BLM pandering is terrible too. The black guy I work with said the same thing. Trying too damn hard. In general Doritos has already found all the flavors that work. There's only so much more you can do with a corn chip.

I've been making homemade Chiness egg rolls in the air fryer with some egg roll wraps I bought at the store.

It blew my mind the first time how well the beige and fake looking squares turned into perfectly golden brown and crunchy rolls with a few minutes in the air fryer without any oil at all.

I didn't have any bean sprouts or any traditional ingredients, so I filled them with some leftover pulled pork for the first night and then a finely diced broccoli and carrot mix with sesame oil the second.

Everything turned out much better than expected. Toughest part was rolling the wraps into relatively tight and non-embarassing shapes.

Way more wraps in a package than I expected as well, they are razor thin. I still have a pack and a half left, but now I've used up pretty much every bottle of any kind of dipping sauce left in the house.

I ought to try this. I haven't made egg rolls in a long time.

Definitely recommend it.

I had someone teach me how to make homemade wonton dumplings (well, with store-bought shells) a lifetime ago and got nostalgic when I saw the egg rolls.

These recent ones turned out way better than I deserved.

It was good to know too that a deep fryer wasn't necessary.

You can't beat the deep fryer, but the whole process is such a pain in the ass (and oil has gotten so expensive).

I've found it actually works better than deep frying for some things, like chicken. Ironically, the only thing I don't like how it does it as much is french fries, which were the reason I bought it in the first place.

Sorry, I meant that using my deep fryer itself is a pain to set up and clean, so it sits collecting dust.

I agree about the air fryer tho.

It's also surprisingly good at leftovers, reheating things like pizza where crispiness is key.

Cooked chicken wings in the air fryer with a seaweed salad I bought already made. It was a fairly good low carb meal that filled me up. The chicken wings I just rubbed with some spice mix and then had a bit of BBQ sauce on the side with them. I've been eating like an absolute pig lately so trying to at least cut out a few empty carbs at night.

My favorite ultra-cheap air fryer go-to is leg quarters dry rubbed with hot sauce. Even in this economy it's fairly often you get a deal on "last day before expiration" leg quarters at something like ten pounds for ten bucks. This is usually about eight.

So I immediately freeze them in four Ziploc bags with two quarters in each.

My usual rub is smoked paprika (I have a bourbon smoked paprika that is top-notch), cayenne, maybe some combo of salt, pepper, sugar, onion powder, garlic powder, cumin, coriander, celery seed, or whatever. I generally have fancy expensive spices but even so those are pennies per serving.

So a bit over $2.50 for the main course of a meal. Throw in rice and another veggie and it's an actual meal.

yea that's a good plan. I'm not broke enough to have to scrounge but at the same time spending $20 on a home prepared meal gets old fast, especially as I'm currently living alone with no significant other and sometimes leftovers just aren't appealing.

maybe on your good advice I'll buy a bigger freezer and start utilizing it more to freeze meat when it's on sale. Even Whole Foods runs some heavy discounts on bulk steak and other meats you just have to time it right.

I'm not either at this point, although I learned penny pinching at a time I was.

I kind of got a taste for it and somehow, food tastes better when you paid practically nothing for it, and on top of that, it's made exactly how you like it because you made it yourself.

Also I just ate leftover General Tso's chicken from a Chinese place yesterday. Again, the air fryer did a great job and actually re-crisped it. Usually it gets mushy and rubbery if you microwave it, and just mushy if you cook it in a normal oven. 390 F for about six minutes with a stir in the middle.

Folks have been dabbling with making fried chicken as of late. While it isn't quite up to the degrees of the truly well made southern fried or the panko fried, it comes out decently well. Succulent and tender, and the spiced breading is pretty good for it.

I got the new Monster Cereal, Carmella Creeper.
It is... not good.
The box art is cute and the idea of caramel apple cereal is great but this stuff has no flavor. I would say it is caramel apple scented cereal, for like a minute when you first open the box, then it's mostly cardboard.
If you have a kid that wants it, buy it because kids should always get to have Monster Cereal and also experience disappointment.
