DSP is that, only he is retarded, not as an insult, but in the actual outdated medical term of someone who is not able to learn new skills after a certain point in their development.

DSP is, at the same time, the most incompetent cult leader, and the most successful beggar on record, and it find it hilarious.

Adaption could've slowed the decline, but he stood no chance as soon as people with actual charisma and talent moved into the space. A lot of people call him lucky for hitting the right moment in time for his 'video on demand content production' business (and he was when looking at it purely from a monetary perspective), but looking at it another way, it was incredibly unlucky: It locked him into a career that he's completely unsuited for and prevented him from finding something he's actually good or even decent at. He's an anti-entertainer, a charismatic void.

DSP would absolutely LOVE to do sponsorships. He's just doing a sour grapes routine about them, his typical pattern for anything he's not good at or can't have.

The only way this could've ever worked out for him, is if he were literally a whole different person than himself. DSP as we know him could never do these things, he's too abrasive, stupid, pigheaded, ego-centric and narcissistic.

The appeal of DSP to me is similar to the appeal of reading a long, detailed chronicle vs a short story. Both are fine, t's just a matter of preference. We have a lot of "short story" lolcows here that give regular drama. DSP is a tome of information, so predictable that it's fun to predict his actions. I enjoy coming in and reading a few pages, and then abstaining for a few weeks, and check in again. Each time, Phil is just a bit more paranoid, his eyes are shiftier, his leg is bouncing harder than ever before. Its veneer of slow decay, even though you can see him actually fuming inside.

TLDR; patience. The roach is an iceberg, just like the wife.

I love Philburt.

Some of his appeal is bred from familiarity (phamiliarity). Phil is a very known quantity, and outside of rare instances you kind of know how he's going to respond to most stuff before the words even come out of his mouth. He's a walking meme.

I previously consumed a lot of Philtent through This Is How You Don't Play, good creative detractors who don't get mad about it and aren't trying to turn it into clout (those people are basically extinct now) can make very comfy Phil related media. I've watched 10 hour long TIHYDPs and not regretted it.

Also somewhere in this subforum is a DSP roleplay thread, because people enjoy imitating him so much it needs to be contained.

Phil is just Phil. You know he'll always be there, Philling it up.

I've been watching since his early days on youtube. I liked his old humor in his old playthroughs to which he now says was 'that was the time dood, im not like taht anymore' but subtly continues to try and bring that version of himself back sometimes minus the old style jokes. Now the appeal is just watching to see how long he will last and all the excuses and missed opportunities he misses due to his own ego. Also no matter how much the world changes, phil stays the same, in that way he's kind of like Wings who I also watch.

One of Phil's longtime mods whose username is Madara_is_god got doxed. For a while before this I believe it was known he complained that he had a disability where he has a "dent in my forehead that causes nosebleeds". This was so funny we started saying 'Phil is so bad you'd have to have a literal dent in your head to be a fan' and using the term 'dent-head' and 'dented' etc. when referencing just how retarded Phil's fans are. I was actually just noticing a few days ago in DSP unrelated places people using the 'dent' as a substitute for 'retarded' term so maybe it's catching on as a general slang?
When he was doxed though the "dent" isn't visible whatsoever and he's a NEET who lives on disability where when his claim for the "dent" in his head was denied he claimed he was too depressed and anxious to work a normal job.

I think for me there are several components that make Phil a personal obsession and my favorite lolcow:
  • The surface level and perhaps least important is how funny it is to watch him be bad at video games.
  • The primary reason is that I can’t think of anyone with as potent a blend of smugness, narcissism, entitlement, pathological lies, greed, obliviousness, inability to learn, scheming, begging, laziness, and impotent rage. Any person exhibiting one aspect of these traits to the degree that Phil does is enough to enter into lolcow territory, Phil has all of them, to an outlandish extent. DSP is the perfect cocktail of personality disorders, like something an alien would create in a lab if they were trying to engineer the most anti-social and unlikable human imaginable.
  • Phil can be used like a mirror / Rorschach test for your own personal shortcomings. You can inevitably see some of the negative traits you yourself have reflected in Phil because he has basically every negative personality trait known to man, so he proves a valuable example of what you can become if you don’t check the worst aspects of who you are. It keeps you honest with yourself in some small way.
  • Phil’s very existence is a paradox that throws alottapeepol for a loop. It’s really bizarre to see somebody whose life is simultaneously so easy and so hard. Phil has a job that many could only dream of, and makes enough annually to be financially secure at the least and fairly affluent at best. But he still manages to squander these luxuries and instead chooses to live in hell every day, hated by almost all who know of him.
  • DSP is the ultimate heel, in the sense that he is a bumbling petty idiot that you love to see fail. Too weak to be a legitimate threat to any normal person, but just lucky enough to keep tumbling on through life.
As a side note, many will say that Phil hasn’t suffered or ever really felt the negative impacts of life like a normal person. I don’t believe that’s entirely fair. It’s easy to think that Phil doesn’t feel the enormous pressure of what it’s like to be hated by basically everyone that has ever seen him because of his public facing persona and rampant narcissism, but try for a second to put yourself in his shoes:

You have substantial online communities of people who hate watch you and follow your every move on a daily basis. People hate you enough to break the law to fuck with you. You have been SWATed. You have major public figures referencing you as a textbook example of what an exploitative toxic person looks like. You have no friends irl, the closest thing is your parents and your “wife” who doesn’t seem to care for you much, if at all. Your livelihood is in the hands of about 7 retards. You don’t enjoy your job, it’s an obligation you begrudgingly accept because you literally can’t do anything else. Your only true fans are pedophiles, furfags, and disabled people. You are a complete joke, and have to gaslight yourself just to keep one foot moving in front of the other.

If you don’t think living a life like that doesn’t weigh on you, I don’t know what to tell ya. Sure, another person who isn’t Phil would have totally made it work for them if given the same opportunities that Phil has squandered, but that’s besides the point. Phil lives a deeply unsatisfying and grim life, and deep down he knows it.

Two things for me, I just enjoy fighting games and watching Phil sperg out and cook up conspiracies for why it's not his fault when he sucks at them is funny.

Second, it's how seriously he takes himself and how much his actions contradict what he says and vice versa. Like he has such an autistic schedule he adheres to, you'd think he's got a lot of important stuff going on, but he just plays video games all day. He's "above" taking sponsorships and getting cut checks by companies, but his natural state is constantly reminding his audience to donate. He's an ahnest guy except for all the times when he isn't. Doesn't involve himself in drama except he doesn't shut the fuck up about it, gives himself asspats for being "positive" and then spends 3 hours on a SF6 stream calling people retards and to lick his shit and quit playing forever. I find it fascinating how he's in a constant state of lying to himself in that way

The appeal for me is that every now and then people start seriously discussing whether he's autistic or gay and they can never come to a conclusion but there's strong points in either directions.

The guy has one talent and it's making people talk about him. It's not in the way he wants but his narc ego will take it as he can get it.
