What movie do you think gets overhated too much?

I see a question like this and I have a two-part answer:

Acclaimed movies: Birdman. Even after the endless complaints that entirely miss the point, it's still a brilliantly directed, well-written and amazingly acted movie regardless.

Hated movies: Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, Ishtar and Showgirls.

Don't know about hate but Ghostship will always be up there for me as a mocked film that hits its remit. Funny and goofy.

The Doom movie, with The Rock. My dad used to pick on me for enjoying it so much.
Aside from that, I'm just pretty sure it was one of those movies that didn't do well with people who didn't already love the game it was based on.

As a couple people said on the first page, Ghostbusters 2 is a great movie that some people shit on for no reason.

I'd like to add Event Horizon to the list. That was a fucking great movie, not a serious classic or anything, but good fun! I honestly don't understand why people dislike it.

Event Horizon was a good film but due to executive meddling the film wasn't nearly as awesome as it was supposed to be. We were supposed to get Hellraiser in space.

Mission Impossible 2. As a sequel to the original MI it fails on so many levels, but as a high budget John Woo action flick staring Tom Cruise it hits all the right marks. Cinematography is great, action scenes while ridiculous are well choreographed, and I found it immensely entertaining from start to finish.

Hell, yeah, where my event bros at? Utter classic popcorn, pacing is good as well, quotes "Hell is just a word, the reality is much much worse".

How that movie is generally disliked is beyond me. Event Horizon and Alien are the films that games like Dead Space and I think System Shock 2 drew their inspiration from.

Speaking of Hellraiser, the 3rd one wasn't so bad. Wasn't as strong as the first 2, but it was okay.

Suicide Squad is not the worst thing in the universe - it just needed better writing and characterizations. That's about as much of hatred directed towards it I understand and agree with, but nothing else beyond that, honestly.

No, it defiantly deserves all the hate and mockery it gets.

There was hype built up around it, a lot. And then when reviews came out some people started mocking it, remember BvS came out a few months before Sucide Squad and we all saw how awful that movie was. And when it finally came out many people realized it flat out sucked.

DC tried to copy Guardians of the Galaxy by having a live action movie with some of their more C-list comic book characters. Only.... they failed so hard at that. The heavy reshoots and rewrites were due to Deadpool being super successful too. Reminder there was talk of making it rated R for awhile with the reshoots and rewrites.

The film itself is just bad. It's more than bad, it's likely the worst thing I've ever watched. It's story is at times confusing, it's editing is a mess, the characters are all flat and 1-dimensional, the Joker turned into a complete joke thanks to that hack Jared Leto... I could go on. A lot of the acting is also bad, I think Will Smith was phoning it in but he's not a great actor to begin with so I couldn't tell.

TL;LR DC fucking sucks with their live action crap and deserves to be mocked and heckled.

Showgirls suffered from the exact same advertising blunder as Starship Troopers. It was marketed as a serious film instead of the satire it obviously was.

True - but it still felt lacking in so many places that it deserves any hate & mockery it gets, even as satire.

Not sure what the hell DC was thinking when they were going "Let's hire a trailer editing house to edit our blockbuster! We'll make millions!"

Really, it's just another long line of fuckups DC has made recently and with that solo Batman film likely not ever going to be made. I wouldn't be surprised if Warner either shutters DC or sells them off in the next few years.

Then again, Warner doesn't look to have many good films post Kong: Skull Islend this year.

What are your thoughts on this film???

I enjoyed it. It's ridiculously overhated, for much the same reasons as Waterworld, another entertaining movie that just happened to come out after everyone decided it was time to shit all over Kevin Costner. It's not great by any stretch of the imagination, but it isn't the absolute shitshow that is its reputation.

Any Adam Sandler movie. Not that they're not absolute shit, but bitch, you knew it was an Adam Sandler movie and then you watched it anyway.

Just saw Pixels on DVD two nights ago. Not bad, actually; I even laughed in a few places. Decent comedic bits with next to no effort at continuity, but I don't regret watching it for all of that.

And holy fuck did Adam Sandler look old.

Any film that Doug Walker hates and the people take his word as the gospel.

I may not fully agree with your tastes, but I agree with one thing - Doug and his ilk at TGWTG (who aren't Brad, because he's awesome... and maybe Phelous, only because he seems so chill.) royally fucking suck, are stupid, and have shitty opinions!

The problem with these guys is that they're militant with their opinions (almost every internet reviewer is, but...)

They literally think their opinion is fact, and if someone disagrees with what they think, they straw man their rival to be an idiot, a bumpkin, and other dehumanizing crap. Doug thinks he's the elite, but in reality he's pretty much as normie as they come.
